"When has Abbott "unreservedly apologised"?"

Did he call the opposition deputy a "narcissistic bimbo" ?

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 20:35

Abbott's justification for sacrificing the elderly was so that the rest of the population - and the economy - could get back to "normal"
He opposes most COVID measures, like lockdown

So he would disapprove of most of the choices that BJ has made so far:
lockdown, furlough etc
I wonder if BJ realises who he has invited inside his tent to piss everywhere

Let's run a Westministenders betting pool on how long before Abbott embarasses BJ
and maybe on how long until BJ sacks him (if the 1922 Committee don't boot out BJ first)

TheABC · 04/09/2020 20:36

I saw 10kg bags of flour today in Aldi, but I could not think where to store them. DH suggested that I buy two and store them under the kickboards. He is thinking along the lines of Lockdown MkII for January, with increased anger.

If the food industry predictions are correct, it's going to take 6 weeks for the effects to hit home, another month for the Government to realise there is a problem and another 4 months for them to do anything about it.

I am also reasonable sure Johnson is going to be trashed along with our food supplies, leaving the floor open for Gov/Cummings.

As for Abbott...takes one to know one. Johnson is on public record as a misogynist and racist; why not recruit another Cummings mate to really build that reputation?

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 20:38

"When has Abbott "unreservedly apologised"?"

For e.g. as Leader of the Opposition, standing up to support a mob with misogynist placards

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/julia-gillard-on-the-moment-that-should-have-killed-tony-abbotts-career-20150622-ghug63.html

On the front lawns of Parliament House, a crowd of 3000 vitriolic anti-carbon tax protesters had gathered, waving placards and signs with offensive slogans such as "ditch the witch" and "Ju-liar... Bob Browns [sic] bitch".

And rather than giving the angry crowd a wide berth, Mr Abbott, former MP Sophie Mirabella and other members of the then-opposition front bench addressed the crowd with those signs as a backdrop.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 20:42

Main point is, Abbott is a misogynist
It doesn't matter if other Australian politicians are too

BJ has appointed Abbott

If he had committed murder, would you justify his appointment because another Australian politician had also committed murder ?

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 20:47

Abbott said:
"What if men are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command."

He should apologise for this
or do you think there would also be no need to apologise for saying either of these ?

"What if whites are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command."

"What if non-Jews are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command."

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 20:55

Brits, take it from an Aussie: If Tony Abbott is your solution, you've got big problems

Not only thorughly unpleasant, but thoroughly incompetent too
Now put him to negotiate deals to save the UK Confused

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/sep/04/brits-aussie-tony-abbott-trade-envoy

Our former PM has not only made deeply sexist remarks, he’s also inept – and unsuited to be anyone’s trade envoy
....
He even got the name of Canada wrong (“Canadia”); he was in Canada at the timee*. Trade adviser?!
.......
“Whichever Australian traded Tony Abbott to Britain,” remarked local cartoonist Jon Kudelka,
“is the person Britain actually needs to help them with trade.”

Clavinova · 04/09/2020 21:04

BigChocFrenzy
Your links say;

"Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has expressed regret for appearing to endorse the abusive behaviour of some protesters at an anti-carbon tax rally in Canberra."

"I think a few people went over the top," he told reporters in Canberra today."
"Naturally, I regret that. But I can understand why people feel very passionate."

The point is - Julia Gillard called out sexism and misogyny in her (now famous) speech - six weeks later she didn't call out her own backbencher - who referred to the deputy leader of the opposition as a "narcissistic bimbo". If you can't see the double standards there is no hope for you.

Also from your links;

"Opposition MPs defended their leader today [Abbott] with one frontbencher accusing the government of double standards. The ALP [Australian Labour Party] website right now is comparing Tony Abbott with a Nazi war criminal."

ListeningQuietly · 04/09/2020 21:05

Julia Gillard has not been given a role in the UK Government.
Tony Abbott has

Clavinova · 04/09/2020 21:19

He even got the name of Canada wrong (“Canadia”); he was in Canada at the time*.

Hilarious -
"Tony Abbott’s ‘Canadia’ slip echoed by his political bestie, Canada’s PM Stephen Harper. WHAT do you do when a VIP guest (Tony Abbott) gets your country’s name wrong? If you’re PM of “Canadia”, you follow his lead."

"in a joint press conference with Mr Abbott, the Canadian Prime Minister appeared to show that even he could make the same mistake."

"Mr Harper once referred to his nation as “Canadia” during a joint press conference today with Mr Abbott."

"It was a brief moment that could have also been an error or could have been an effort to provide cover to Mr Abbott."

"But it was a fitting moment as the Australian and Canadian prime ministers lavished each other with praise" ...

www.news.com.au/national/tony-abbotts-canadia-slip-echoed-by-his-political-bestie-canadas-pm-stephen-harper/news-story/7a198c71a7b68a9aca32e89b6987e831

Clavinova · 04/09/2020 21:36

Abbott said:
"What if men are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command."

Yet another quote from 1998.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:37

@BigChocFrenzy

Main point is, Abbott is a misogynist It doesn't matter if other Australian politicians are too

BJ has appointed Abbott

If he had committed murder, would you justify his appointment because another Australian politician had also committed murder ?

... You have never answered that point

If a migrant worker has committed murder, would you say "oh let him in, because someone in his country in a similar job committed murder too" ?

It doesn't matter what other Australians did
BJ has appointed Abbot

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:41

@Clavinova

Abbott said: "What if men are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command."

Yet another quote from 1998.

... Never apologised for

Do you have some statute of limitations for what politicians say
Would these be forgiven too if said 20 years ago ?

"What if whites are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command."

"What if non-Jews are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command."

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:45

If BJ gives a job to another failed Australian politician, then we'll look at their record too

Now, he has appointed the failed Australian politician Abbott
So we are just looking at the misogynism and homophobia of Abbott

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:46

If BJ appoints an armed robber, I suppose Clav will start pointing at Ned Kelly

Darker · 04/09/2020 21:49

Appointing Abbott sends a message to the world (and no doubt to the home crowd) that Britain is OK with Trumpery and is flexi about climate change and equalities when it somes to the crunch. It's not good.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:49

More bungs for the Tory boys

Never let an emergency go to waste

Cummings ally's PR firm given Covid-19 contracts without tenders

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/04/dominic-cummings-allys-pr-firm-hanbury-strategy-given-covid-19-contracts-without-tenders

Hanbury Strategy, co-founded by ex-Vote Leaver Paul Stephenson, is being paid £640,000
...
Hanbury is the fourth Tory–linked firm to have been awarded work since the start of the pandemic under emergency rules that allow public bodies to bypass the standard procurement rules requiring an open competitive tendering process.

The Cabinet Office failed to publicise the existence of its contract with Hanbury, despite official guidelines that they should be made public within 30 days.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:50

This government appoints people and gives contracts according to ideology, NOT ability to do the job

Would these be forgiven too if said 20 years ago?

But you're putting words in his mouth. Sorry, but I'm not a feminist and I can't get worked up over a fairly innocuous "What if" comment from 1998.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:55

Boris Johnson is floundering, and his majority may not save him

btw, MrsThatcher won a majority of 102 in 1987 and was toppled by her party in 1989
They are utterly ruthless in the pursuit and retention of power

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/sep/03/boris-johnson-conservative-mps

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:56

A corrupt government appoints a misogynist
No surprise

FrankieStein402 · 04/09/2020 21:56

We all know it's not the 'leaders' that negotiate - they turn up to glad hand/take the camera opportunity etc.

Negotiators succeed only because each party recognises their opposites have the authority to make a deal and the ability to sell it to their leaders. Mo's wig flinging would have been irrelevant if she wasn't trusted to get the deal through.

The thing is, the nature of the pfeffel/cummings government is well understood - nothing that frost et al propose can be assumed to survive a day's bumbling with the leadership - so Barnier has no incentive at all to move beyond the centre of his mandate.

Barnier is just going through the motions.

(cummings wearing a suit.... In my experience, when one of the 'mandatory dress down' crowd cleaned up it was because they'd got another job, or were going to court, - we can hope.)

BigChocFrenzy · 04/09/2020 21:56

Just sit back and wait for Abbott to embarass BJ
