RedToothBrush · 04/08/2020 18:10

The government is telling pharmacists and drug manufactures to stockpile drugs ahead of the end of transition on 31st December.

In the middle of a pandemic.

What could go wrong?

Jesuis glad you are still with us.
The most depressing thing about the latest shenanigans from this arsewipe government is, I’m not slightest bit surprised & yy nothing ever appears to be followed up☹️

Not as Mumsnetty as artisanal jam but I've had to rip up the social distancing tape on the floor in my teaching room after I tripped over it three times. I could easily have cracked my head open on the corner of a desk.

Shades of that sketch about "Have you been injured making an advert for no-win no-fee injury lawyers ?????"

I once nearly choked to death eating octopus alone in a small villa in Greece (it suckered on to the back of my tongue!) and the idea of dying in a weird and completely avoidable way has stuck with me ever since.

I think we'd do better listening to Dread Pirate Roberts, he's predicted more than Cumming's blog so far

ListeningQuietly · 06/08/2020 11:20

Glad to hear that you are OK JeSuis

Maybe we could send recipe suggestions to certain government advisers Wink

I admit that I think the planning reforms are going to be dead in the water.
From my Linkedin feed the shire counties are dead against it
and as they are wall to wall Tories and party members ....

AuldAlliance · 06/08/2020 11:21

Poulet, even my lavender is suffering in the heat. 35° forecast for days on end.
Need to rethink the whole garden and plant very resistant varieties that survive on the sun-facing lower slopes of the nearby Luberon hills, I think.
Hydrangeas are lovely, too. Maybe I could try one in a pot on the terrace, in dappled shade.

Friends here have a garden down by the canal (free irrigation - vital) and brought me tomatoes, courgettes, cucumber, basil, lemon balm, mint, rosemary and chives this morning.

I'm planning to preserve grilled peppers, bottle tomato coulis and freeze oven-roasted tomatoes, as well as lots of basil, for the winter. Think we'll need all the vitamins we can get.

No advice on canning systems, but will be watching closely. Smile

I think this is the best thing I have read on t’internet this week. I’m glad that you didn’t die, but if you had, you would be a LEGEND. And a candidate for the Strange Deaths column in Fortean Times for sure Grin

QueenOfThorns · 06/08/2020 11:25

Oh, and I’m not sure that you need a pressure canner if you’re just doing fruit and veg. I do my canning using the water bath method.

SabrinaThwaite · 06/08/2020 11:47

I always put knives pointy end down in the dishwasher after reading about a woman that tripped and landed on a knife in the cutlery basket in the open dishwasher.

I've donated to the Red Cross Lebanon Appeal. It's hard to imagine what Lebanon is going through. 30% of residents are Syrian refugees. 30%! What a set of difficulties they're facing all at once.

The PPE scandal is so depressing. I didn't think the summer recess would yield so much to alarm me. But it started with the elevation of some wholly unsuitable, unworthy people to the Lords. And now this.

James O'Brien talks to Jo Maugham about the waste of taxpayers' money.

50 million face masks bought by the government in April won't be used in the NHS due to safety concerns. But that's only half of the story of the government's PPE contract...

New polling has shown the levels of Brexit regret in the country has increased again.

There has to be a squirrel somewhere this afternoon.

Glad you survived.

pussycatinboots · 06/08/2020 12:35

DGR that Spitting Image puppet of Matty looked remarkably lifelike Hmm

The NHS can sell the crappy masks to the shopz/t'interweb for shoppers, cinema goers etc to wear as "face coverings" - they'd get at least a couple of quid back...

pussycatinboots · 06/08/2020 12:37

JeSuis erm, was it still wriggling alive?
🐙

TatianaBis · 06/08/2020 12:37

I dropped by on reading of the news that the government is directing the stockpiling of drugs in a pandemic. Marvellous.

pussycatinboots · 06/08/2020 12:42

Tatiana I am sure we will all sleep soundly tonight on hearing such positive news. We can trust in Boris 🤡

TheABC · 06/08/2020 12:43

Old Boyz Network. Alive and kicking since 1066.

I wonder how many people will admit to voting for Brexit, this time next year?

Nah they'll just be blaming remain voters for fucking it up, somehow this shit show will be our fault.

I'm sure covid be lumbered with some of the blame too.

Yes it’s heartening to hear the EU are having to tell the government to be more realistic and pragmatic. No doubt Boris has this all in hand.
FatCatThinCat · 06/08/2020 13:25

I'm not sure how Spitting Image can work this time round. They take current events and ramp it up to comedy levels. How are they going to do that now? Tone it down to make it believable?

prettybird · 06/08/2020 13:36

Grin FatCat - so true, but I shouldn't really laugh SadAngry

It looks as though some illegal immigrants have managed to do well, despite the hostile environment www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-53658375. The fact that they’re cute as well as being productive members of society has no doubt helped their cause!

Next step wolves and bears !!!!!!
QueenOfThorns · 06/08/2020 15:14

I wouldn’t argue with that, DGR, but I’m not sure that they have the same positive effect on the ecosystem as beavers. And the farmers (if there are any left) would not be happy!
