The government is telling pharmacists and drug manufactures to stockpile drugs ahead of the end of transition on 31st December.

In the middle of a pandemic.

What could go wrong?

PMK!

prettybird · 04/08/2020 18:28

Double decker PMK Grin

Not sure that there's much else to smile about Sad

At least the Covid Lockdown has a) reminded me of the importance of a stockpile (and got me building mine up again) and b) enhanced my sourdough baking skills so I know we'll have brilliant bread and croissants Grin will make sure to keep a large rolling stock of flour Wink

Yeah I'm back on the stockpiling too.
Dh less than thrilled :)
I'm getting plenty of soap, cleaning products too. As well as the meds again now too ☹
Our dishwasher blew up last night 😔 so going to get a new one tomorrow - I've already washed the dishes 3 times today.
Woe!

yoikes · 04/08/2020 18:39

With the kids at home since March the amount of dirty dishes produced has gone up tenfold. They are complete filth wizards!

Operation Brock is Back!

U.K. Revives No-Deal Brexit Truck Plan, Fearing Border Chaos

Announcing a month-long consultation on the blueprint, the Department for Transport said it will effectively resurrect Operation Brock, a traffic management system designed to limit tailbacks around Dover and Eurotunnel, two key trade arteries for Britain.

“Something akin to Operation Brock will need to be confirmed for use at the end of the transition period,” the Department said in a statement, referring to the program prepared for use if Britain left the EU without a deal in 2019. Disruption at the cross-Channel ports is “clearly a possibility,” it said.

PMK with the sloth-faced potatoo that we couldn't bring ourselves to peel - and yes we've been gradually restocking our Brexit stash, having used up some of it in the early days of Corona-geddon.

Westministenders: Don't forget to stockpile. Again.

Pmk. My orders of icing sugar, caster sugar and yeast are coming this week. (All measured in the kilograms) and I am debating getting another sack of flour. Just opened a 16kg sack. Last one lasted us about 8 weeks.

I found covid a useful trial run. Previously I'd concentrated my stocks on things that come from or via the EU, but I can see now that any spaces on shelves will lead to panic buying of lots of other things.
prettybird · 04/08/2020 19:07

I ordered 2x10kg SWF from Wessex Mill in June. It's only taken me 6 weeks to finish the first 10kg sack Blush and that with me lowcarbing and only having the occasional slice Wink

I'll order another 10kg sack of SWF and a 10kg sack of French flour next month- and then see what I need in November.

QueenOfThorns · 04/08/2020 19:28

PMK. I have adopted part of the cellar to use as a larder and have accumulated what looks like the contents of a small corner shop down there. I have already planted most of the seeds for the vegetables that will hopefully keep us going through the hungry gap. There will be a good harvest of cooking apples and plums this year, so I’ll make big batch of apple sauce and stew the rest for freezing. None of us is on regular medication, thank goodness.

DrBlackbird · 04/08/2020 19:53

Early PMK. Thanks Red. Must start to restock as well. Is there the faintest of faintest hopes that we see some sort of UK-EU deal?

GeistohneGrenzen · 04/08/2020 20:05

My stockpile is looking quite healthy but I really need to get it into better order, which will involve decluttering a load of other unnecessary 'stuff'.

Not a bad idea in itself of course but this year I've been concentrating more on growing vegetables in frames and containers in my very small garden which hasn't a lot of clear or level space and I'm finding out the areas where I've been too ambitious.

I live alone and have some balance and visual problems as well as being well agèd, so am frustratingly slow, but have only myself to please. I sowed cavalo nero last mid-November and have just finished the last of it as it overwintered very well, and another sowing a few weeks ago is well advanced. Shall be content if next year I can keep myself in kale and tomatoes and Jerusalem artichokes and other leafy greens.

It's been great working out in the fresh air and I've learned a lot, so the de-cluttering can wait. After all, it's been waiting for the last few decades so why not a few more...

Peregrina · 04/08/2020 20:17

so the de-cluttering can wait. After all, it's been waiting for the last few decades so why not a few more...

Please don't say things like that in my DH's hearing - anything thrown out before 30 years have passed is deemed as being too hasty to get rid of things.

Thanks, red Thanks

quiteathome · 04/08/2020 20:22

My stockpile has been decimated. I need to get on with sorting that out.

PawFives · 04/08/2020 20:28

PMK & thanks
Feels like we’ve been stockpiling for years - definitely the new normal now.
