The government is telling pharmacists and drug manufactures to stockpile drugs ahead of the end of transition on 31st December.

In the middle of a pandemic.

What could go wrong?

It would be a very Mumsnet death Grin

RedToothBrush · 06/08/2020 01:23

We had a laugh though about "death by artisnal jam"

Brexit negotiations. According to Dom and Boris.

I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of Elderberry.

Awake at 3 with heat but thankfully nothing else Grin
Yes I had the Monty Python sketch in my head while I was de-stalking them (watched it with dd at the start of lockdown and that line tickled her). Thank you all for supporting my overly anxious late night cheese eating cum poisoning antics. Apologies for needing more sleep and generally being easily spooked by the mere word "cyanide". It says a lot that I came on here to ask you knowledgeable souls. I should probably do more of that before attempting potentially toxic foodstuffs...

And sadly, as predicted on here, planning reforms set to create slums www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/aug/05/englands-planning-reforms-will-create-generation-of-slums "While the proposed changes are likely to appeal to developers, they prompted stinging criticism from housing charities, planning officers and architects who warned of a new generation of fast and substandard housing."

I am glad you're still alive, @JeSuisPoulet
Thank you for the discussion everyone. I read this thread every morning before/instead of looking at the news now.

JeSuisPoulet

In case you didn’t know, please don’t relax today with a spot of gardening and trim your laurel hedge: or at least if you do, compost rather than recycle. The cut leaves release copious amounts of cyanide gas and bagged up to take to the tip could result in a very Midsomer Murders situation.

Stay safe Grin

AuldAlliance · 06/08/2020 07:23

Glad you're OK, Poulet.

Death by artisanal jam has a certain ring to it, but would be ironic during a pandemic.
Am v jealous of an abundance of raspberries. Too hot and dry for them here. Too hot and dry for lots of plants.
I've adopted a Darwinian approach to my little back garden: anything that doesn't survive summer without regular watering shouldn't be there.
The resulting scorched earth effect is depressing just now.
In the Autumn, I'm hoping to plant lavender, rosemary, thyme, immortelle (curry plant (?)), etc.

Research into lack of oestrogen sounds interesting. So much we don't know yet about Covid.

Thank you for the new thread Red.

Have you seen this? My flabber is well and truly gasted.

Peregrina · 06/08/2020 08:06

Why is your flabber well and truly gasted? This is par for the course for Johnson and his cronies. Enrich his friends.

prettybird · 06/08/2020 08:21

See also: reduced planning controls to increase profit opportunities for property developing cronies donors companies. Hmm

Peregrina · 06/08/2020 08:31

But still, all this is obviously what people are happy with, seeing as the Tories were returned with an 80 seat majority. Corruption and Cronyism is better than Corbyn.

yoikes · 06/08/2020 08:43

So glad you're still with us jesuis

I was awake at 4 and wondering of you were ok!

I've got a lot to do today so obviously I'm off out to meet a friend for coffee ☕ 😁

TheElementsOfMedical · 06/08/2020 08:51

Well, we'll be saving £350 million a week, so what's a few hundred million between friendly Tory supporters?

PawFives · 06/08/2020 09:02

Glad you’re OK @JeSuisPoulet - that would have been a memorable way to go! 😁

mrslaughan · 06/08/2020 09:06

Holding tight - read that this morning...... it is incredible. They are not even trying to hide it. (The corruption and cronyism) . The UK has become a banana republic

QueenOfThorns · 06/08/2020 09:21

We’re currently 12th in the Corruption Perceptions Index en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_Perceptions_Index. I wonder how that will change when they next revise it?

Aldi was not busy this morning, but I estimate about a third wearing masks correctly, a third with their noses out (numpties) and a third with no masks (all young).

SabrinaThwaite · 06/08/2020 09:23

Even the BBC has picked up on the Ayanda/Peppermill story:

prettybird · 06/08/2020 09:29

Every time I see people with their masks under their noses I think of this meme and have to repress the impulse to go up to them and show them it Wink

DGRossetti · 06/08/2020 10:01

Morning all ...

Westministenders: Don't forget to stockpile. Again.
HedyPrism · 06/08/2020 10:10

Hello, please can I join? I've been reading and nodding along for a while. Used up most of my stash to avoid going to the shops in April/May so now building up again. Amazed at the price increase for pasta.

JeSuisPoulet · 06/08/2020 10:31

Auld I love lavender and have it by the front door for a burst of fragrance on the way in/out. Another shrub I find you can leave until you need to deadhead is the hydrangea. I want a flowering quince but adding to the garden atm is not on the plans - maintenance of it fell by the wayside with home schooling and it needs a few hours in certain areas that will be great for blackberries in a week or so Grin

Pretty I always think of that meme too. I'm never sure if it is an act of rebellion or if that is being too positive about the wearer. Without a PH campaign we will never really know what other people know and considering the govt's own COVID advertisement back in March had a nurse wearing it like that, it is entirely possible people thought it was fine.

Glad DomCum's PPE chums are being investigated further; so many things happening since Bozo became PM but not many appear to be being followed up.

JeSuisPoulet · 06/08/2020 10:37

DGR that is a rather svelte Bozo - must have been based on him pre-election when he was "caught jogging" apparently on the advice of Trump...

Hedy of course, the more the merrier. Lots has gone up in price, loads isn't available online and a distinct lack of free range chickens (or maybe I was unlucky?).

Also I have a crop of pears and potatoes that will need preserving in a couple of weeks. Can anyone recommend a pressure canner? Never done it before but it looks like I could do both of these that way. I think I have a second crop of damsons coming this week too!

prettybird · 06/08/2020 10:41

Maybe I should get a t-shirt printed with that meme on it and wear it to go shopping Grin along with my face mask of course Wink

Or someone could print face masks with it on them Grin
