No, not yet, but soon. Just 24 more sleeps until we legally leave the EU at 11pm on 31 January and finally enter the transition period after what seems like centuries of argument, dither and delay. We do so with hope, optimism and a determination to be a good friend and neighbour to the EU, but for now, no one said it better than Winston Churchill.

“This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning.”

The Pub Rule is the same as it always was: all welcome but only if you leave goadery outside. The first drink is on the house.

Do people who paid to the fund get their money back?!

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 23:00

Maybe you can sing that at your posh dinner Lily

Only if I wanted to clear the room. Fast.

Have you ever heard me sing?

As far as I'm aware this is a site run by MN, not your own personal place to make 'rules' in. That aside, goadery is against MN rules and goadery is exactly how I would describe the response, Help we are being infiltrated by flashers! to my post.

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 23:06

Looks like it's time for another round of drinks.

I'll just refill the bowls of nuts at the far end of the bar.

What's everyone having?

Is it okay to have mulled wine in January?

I see Laurence Fox is on Question Time but it’s still not holding my interest!

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 23:13

Autumn, that's sacrilege!

One mulled wine coming up 🍷

Lily towards Laurence or QT?

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 23:23

Oh, ditch QT without a second glance, Autumn, but not Laurence. Grin

i don’t know a lot about him

He had the best line in the last season of Victoria
He played Lord Palmerston
A French king thanked him for his hospitality and said “If I were not a French man, I would wish to be an Englishman”

Lord P replies thoughtfully “if I were not an Englishman, I would wish to be....an Englishman”.

Couldn’t find it on YouTube, sadly.

Okay Dusty, that’s not what I was expecting but it’s funny 😁

DustyDiamond · 17/01/2020 00:51

😉😘😂

I have my bottle of Camel Valley fizz all ready to go in the fridge for the 31st. I have to go back to Brussels this week to try and wrest the rental deposit back from the l/l and the bank, and to finally disentangle ourselves from the many headed hydra of Belgian bureaucracy and the accompanying all enveloping tentacles. Hopefully, I won't need to go back for a while afterwards.

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 01:11

scary are you leaving for good? Pun not intended đŸ˜ŗ

I’ve only got hard liquor in the flat, but the last three years warranted that! I’ll get something happier in.

scaryteacher · 17/01/2020 01:34

No, back in the UK for good now. The ready availability of clotted cream , cheddar and smoked streaky bacon means I am not moving again

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 01:40

scary sounds wise!

DustyDiamond · 17/01/2020 07:07

Morning all Brew

Good luck wresting the deposits back Scary...!

I've got a bottle of prosecco in the fridge which has been there since March last year - will be definitely be having a few drinks on 31st

I'm not particularly fussed as to whether Big Ben Bongs or not - perhaps Steve Bray could get his loudhailer out for one last turn though?
Would be amusing to see a final 'STOOOOP BREEEEXIIIIT' lament with accompanying theatrics by blue-faced loons draped in EU flags 😂😂

SingingLily · 17/01/2020 07:31

Morning, Dusty, morning all!

Just fourteen days before you can break out that prosecco. It will fly by, you'll see.

In other news, RLB got Momentum's backing with just over 70% of the ballot. It sounds impressive, doesn't it? Except it's not all that impressive according to the HuffPost:

"As for numbers, Momentum says it has around 40,000 out of the roughly 500,000 party members in Labour. That’s less than 10%. In the controversially worded (‘Yes/No’ for Long-Bailey) ballot of its membership, only 7,000 people took part."

70% of 7,000 in a binary vote is 4,900 - less than 18% of the membership of Momentum and less than 10% of the total Labour membership. In the interests of consistency, then, I wait with bated breath for Momentum supporters to scream that is not a legitimate result, especially as they will now be "mobilised" to campaign for her.

Wonder how long I'll have to wait.

Today's complimentary breakfast tray returns to an old favourite with an American theme. Please help yourselves.

See dusty, that's what I mean right here: how is it ok to take the piss out of people who voice their deeply held convictions? For them, the lunacy is celebrating something which has already cost ÂŖ140 billion and will cost much more.
One key reason I'm in this pub is reminding everyone that the divisions aren't over and sensitivity is required.

KenDodd · 17/01/2020 08:30

blue-faced loons draped in EU flags

It least they're not racists unlike plenty of the Brexit supporters who campaigned in parliament square. If you don't believe me watch some of the videos Steve Bray posted.

KenDodd · 17/01/2020 08:34

Actually don't bother. You'll just dismiss any racism attached to your cause as 'tiny minority' 'not racist to not want immigrants' etc etc.

DustyDiamond · 17/01/2020 08:45

Brexiters are racist!

A golden oldie but still a strangely popular refrain
The number one go-to jibe for the discerning flasher... 🙄🙄

DustyDiamond · 17/01/2020 08:47

But yeah, sensitivity is important (so long as it's a one way street, obvs)

Loony-tunes anti-brexiters are strictly off limits, but totes ok for wankery to flow in the opposite direction 🤷đŸģ‍♀ī¸

KenDodd · 17/01/2020 08:48

Well if you don't agree let's see if theres a spike in racist assaults around Brexit day just like there were after the Leave vote.

My racist family are planning a little celebration with their racist friends btw.

SingingLily · 17/01/2020 08:59

Ken, chuck, I'm sorry to hear that you have such awful issues with your family. You sound so angry about it. Perhaps you should start a thread on the Relationships board? It's over that way --->
