Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

Shocked, but not surprised by jasjas's posts. Have they been banned? As they are not coming up on the @ function? Let's hope so, and yes, I do mean that in a cavalier way.

SingingLily · 04/01/2020 10:46

Still coming up on the @ function, Boswell, sadly. It's a pity MN doesn't have a facility to hide individual posters. I can think of several I would happily apply that to.

Daren't imagine what it would be like now if Corbyn had won.

He'd be there with a wreath, present but not involved, Copper. He has a long and consistent history of backing any other country in the world (apart from the US, of course) rather than his own. Anyone who thinks that wasn't known to Northern and Midlands voters and wasn't a factor in their determination not to put that clown in No. 10 is similarly deluded.

AutumnRose1 · 04/01/2020 11:05

Is it wrong to change the tone with an observation that's not war-linked? I totally understand if people would rather focus on that. I've just had my RAF friend on the phone, and we've ignored it for 30 mins!!

Reuters reports on German and French reaction.

“The American action was a reaction to a series of military provocations for which Iran is responsible,” Ulrike Demmer said during a regular government news conference.

“We also see with great concern Iran’s activities in the region. We stand before a dangerous escalation,” she said, adding that Germany would work to de-escalate the situation.

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that Iran should refrain from any provocation, speaking after a U.S. air strike that killed a top Iranian commander in Iraq.

Macron also said in his statement that he had held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the situation in Iraq.

Iran promised harsh revenge on Friday after the U.S. strike in Baghdad killed Qassem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force and architect of its growing military influence in the Middle East.

Agree with everyone else that the ME is complex and very difficult to know what is for the best or even how to judge.

On that basis Autumn I would far rather talk about other things.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 04/01/2020 12:17

Morning All.

Standard isn’t it? We once voted differently in a 2016 referendum, so therefore we are fair game for all forward going accusations. And according to one lovely poster we are are barely human at all.

Ebola? Brexit Arms fault.
Asteroid? Brexit Arms fault.
Alien invasion? Brexit Arms fault.

Orange man potentially kicks off WW3?
🚨 BREXIT ARMS FAULT!!! 🚨

It didn’t take long for some who assume we are basically the satan of mumsnet to come along and start making out we were all trump supporting war wankers on the basis of zero fucking evidence did it?

scaryteacher · 04/01/2020 12:37

Maylis The 2% of GDP has been a NATO requirement for some little while, my dh has just retired from there, and part of his remit was looking at the budgets of some of the Allies. It is an on going concern to NATO that certain of the Allies (Germany in particular), aren't spending enough on defence. The story about broom handles wasn't apocryphal, and their equipment is pitiful. UvdL is under investigation for corruption...the last German Defence Minister, now heading up the Commission.

There have been pleas from Clinton, Bush, Obama (at the Wales summit) for more spending, and Trump has said the same, but not so diplomatically. It needed to be said.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 04/01/2020 12:38

It gets better.

Shouty person (being very polite through gritted teeth there) comes on here, nastily accuses PP’s of all sorts, with zero evidence. Doesn’t appear to have been reported due to the posts still standing this thread. Entirely seperate individual (🧐), now goes onto another ‘thread’ to say this unfounded bollocks.

“Today 11:35 malylis

It appears the Brexit Arms lot have managed to get JasJas banned.”

WTAF.

SingingLily · 04/01/2020 12:39

😂Epic, that's far too short a list. You forgot to mention climate change, plastic in the oceans, the disappearances of Lord Lucan and Red Rum (not connected, by the way - it was entirely different Brexit Armers acting independently of each other) and whatever else happens in the next fifty years.

Fortunately, we have broad shoulders. And an even greater sense of perspective.

However, there is at least one reason why we are able to look forward with optimism, despite the current troubles in the world. Here's a reminder.

malylis · 04/01/2020 12:44

Scary.. its been a target to achieve it by 2020, in reality the Germans have a larger armed forces the the UK and don't have any nuclear capacity or a large navy. They spend 2 billion dollars less than the UK and have spent 1.3 percent of their GDP last year (updated stats).

All British forces members make remarks about other countries kit.

The Wales summit was where the 2 percent target was made formal, it had previously been informal, and the target is within a decade.

Trump totally misunderstood how this agreement works, which is why he attempted to present Merkel with a bill.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 04/01/2020 12:47

Surprised you want to talk to the “Brexit Arms Lot”
Malylis. Especially as you seem to think we got your buddy banned. Hmm.

malylis · 04/01/2020 12:50

You are right.

This place is a pub with flat roof.

DustyDiamond · 04/01/2020 12:50

I will never understand the mindset of people who post on one thread apparently in good faith, & then run off to another thread to snipe & whine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sucks to be that person 🙄🙄🙄

SingingLily · 04/01/2020 12:51

I remember that, Scary. The Telegraph reported:

"German soliders used broomsticks painted black instead of guns during a joint Nato exercise last year due to severe equipment shortages, it has emerged.
The incident took place during exercises for Nato's rapid response force, formed in reaction to the Ukraine crisis, which is supposed to be ready to deploy anywhere it is needed at very short notice.
Soldiers in the Panzergrenadierbataillon 371 took part in the exercises last September in Norway.
The troops were missing 31 per cent of their MG3 general-purpose machine guns, 41 per cent of their P8 handguns, and more than three-quarters of their Lucie night-vision devices.
Soldiers resorted to painting broomsticks black and attaching them to Boxer armoured vehicles to simulate gun barrels."

This was during the period when Ursula Von Der Leyen was Defence Minister, wasn't it? On the plus side, she was also keen to introduce flexible working for soliders (what???), flat screen TVs in barracks and crèches. I'm guessing those expenses were counted as part of Germany's contribution to the NATO budget as well.

While military staff should be treated properly, I'm sure they would have preferred to wait for their flat screen TVs a little longer if it meant they were provided with the right working equipment first.

malylis · 04/01/2020 12:52

Nope it doesn't, I'm doing great thanks.

DustyDiamond · 04/01/2020 12:52

Oh tee hee hee malylis 🙄

You are SPOILING us with your bantz!

Fucking HILAIRE! to make the 'flat roof' jibe again (after it was ignored yesterday 😂)

Always better when a 'witty aside' is regurgitated & reheated 👏👏👏

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 04/01/2020 12:54

“malylis

You are right.

This place is a pub with flat roof.”

Ahh, yes, that offensive steroid you made about the types found in ‘Flatroofed pubs’ in WC ‘estates’ on another thread. I remember now, aren’t you delightful?

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 04/01/2020 12:54

Stereotype. Not steroid.

malylis · 04/01/2020 12:54

"Germany's contribution to the NATO budget".

See no point discussing these things with people who don't actually understand how NATO works.

UK forces have equipment shortages too

malylis · 04/01/2020 12:55

That wasn't me!

Still true though. Toodle ooo

DustyDiamond · 04/01/2020 12:56

It was SO FUNNY & so well received (that is, completely ignored) that she couldn't resist wheeling it out for another outing Epic!

We are #TrulyBlessed
🙏 🕯

DustyDiamond · 04/01/2020 12:57

UK forces have equipment shortages too

It has ever been thus & likely will ever be

SingingLily · 04/01/2020 12:58

UK forces have equipment shortages too

MoD procurement is not defensible. That's why it's on the list for review and reform. Quite rightly. However, that does not excuse UvdL's lamentable performance as Defence Minister nor does it excuse Germany not paying its way as part of NATO.

Which, apparently, only you understand. What is your particular knowledge or expertise in this area?

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 04/01/2020 13:05

Yep.
Everything that goes wrong from here to eternity will be the fault of leave voters.

I just ignore them.

SingingLily · 04/01/2020 13:07

Ah, so a flat roof = working class, does it?

I didn't think the class system applied to buildings, but I suppose we learn something every day.

Here's an aerial photo of The Brexit Arms, complete with flat roof.

We keep the ferrets in a special enclosure around the back, along with the rest of the stereotypes.

Even more hilaire though that you regurgitated someone else's shit patter

😂😂😂😂😂

Nae shame 🤣🤣
