Brexit

Westminstenders: Penny dropping time

RedToothBrush · 17/12/2019 08:12

Johnson already seems to be hinting at protections for workers rights and the environment that he promised are to be dropped.

Along with enshrining Brexit in law to the end of Dec 2020 thus creating another Brexit no deal date. This time without any safety net in parliament.

"won't Johnson be more liberal than he suggested" they cry

About that...

Hateisnotgood
Trying to stop Brexit has failed
So be it
But Brexit still has to be watched like a hawk to make sure the UK is not destroyed by it

derxa · 17/12/2019 20:51

Have a lovely time BCF Flowers

HateIsNotGood · 17/12/2019 20:53

Yes - i agree with both yolo and LQ - we shall continue to personally care for our vulnerable as best we can, with or without state help; and watch our politicians like "hawks" - and our PM knows that he has many more hawks just waiting to pounce.

But, do we all have to pounce on everything our 'little bird' sings and does? Best we all stand back a bit and give them some space to breathe - even if you just want to them to feck up greatly - you never know, they might not and it will be ok.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 20:56

Thanks, Derxa Smile

btw, I thought of you last Thursday evening when our local farmers formed a convoy with a dozen tractors all done up with Christmas lights, all blowing their horns and waving,
on their way to build their bit of our village Christmas market - starting literally 20 meters down the Rhine from my door

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 20:59

We have to watch BJ and his govt v closely

He is a lifetime purveyor of big lies
who is the first PM to have been sacked for lying, let alone being scaked twice

His party are authoritarians
and they have received millions in dodgy donations

He's not a "little bird" - he's a twisty weasel

We're not all evil BCF Grin Are you staying in Germany?

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 21:01

Yep, I had intended to retire in the Uk, but I had a job lined up before the ref just in case
So I emigrated literally a few days after the ref

Oh and that Glühwein at the farmers stalls was definitely evil - a surprising kick !

yolofish · 17/12/2019 21:04

yay for gluwhein BCF and also for retirement... although knowing you through these pages I cannot imagine you will do nothing!

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 21:07

Hmm, according to "yes Prime Minister" this would mean he's planning to break up the UK

Tom Newton Dunn@tnewtondunn

Excl: Downing Street officials looking at plans for a new department for the union to boost the battle against UK’s break up.

Follows recommendations from the Dunlop review, soon to be published.

Peregrina · 17/12/2019 21:07

What do you plan to do now - leave, stay, make your home a fortress, join a political party, stand for election....or?

Carry on being a member of a political party and try to make a difference, carry on supporting the food bank and other voluntary efforts. We have a Government of self-serving shits who won't look after others, but there is no reason why I should copy them.

frumpety · 17/12/2019 21:07

I also thought of you Dexra when some naughty cows decided to form a raiding party and eat my front lawn, because of all the rain they have left some sizeable footprints. Bit of snow and it will be as good as new I reckon, will just have to play crochet on the back lawn for a while ( joke!)

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 21:11

I've signed for your new thread - followed the Trump one for ages (until I became over invested in the Westministenders) and have learned so much from both! Thank you

I think it''s important to have something in AIBU. It's got the most traffic and the Brexit topic is hidden away. I just hope people use it.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 21:11

yolo I'm a bookworm, a gym rat and I moved to the Rhine banks so that I would have long daily walks along the Rhine

  • my windows look right down on the Rhine and I step out my door onto the Rhine path, so no excuses unless it's raining.

I'll download even more Kindles and increase gym from 5 to 6 regular days.

< sighs blissfully Smile >

derxa · 17/12/2019 21:12

frumpety Grin How did you get rid of them?

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 21:13

And of course, more time for Westministenders

Currently a bit absent due to renovations - new wooden flooring, old furniture out of storage, adding some new ...
Chaos and hammering
< wails >

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 21:13

"How did you get rid of them?"

Roast beef ?

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 21:20

ALERT:

ITV 10:45 pm today - John Pilger's film "The Dirty War on the NHS"

It was banned by Ofcom from being shown during the GE campaign
but afaik has been shown in cinemas since 1 December

dreichXmas · 17/12/2019 21:22

We've just signed up for another two years in the USA so we have time to make some longer term decisions.
Another almost three years should hopefully give us an idea of what is happening in the UK.

thecatfromjapan · 17/12/2019 21:33

Congratulations, BigChoc!!! Happy, happy retirement. 💐💐💐💐💐

frumpety · 17/12/2019 21:36

The usual way Dexra, bit of panic, arm waving, shouting and brandishing of branches snapped from the hedge Wink

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 21:46

Thanks, cat Smile
Are you anywhere near retirement ? - I visualise you as the squeezed middle in age terms

Peregrina · 17/12/2019 21:49

I think it''s important to have something in AIBU.

The thread police are already whining that it should be moved to Politics. I hope MN ignores them. You would think that people want to follow what their Government is doing in their name. After all in the last 3 and a half years we have heard quite a lot about 'take back control' and 'make our own laws', so you'd think a thread with a lot of traffic would be the ideal place.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 21:54

would think that people want to follow what their Government is doing in their name

You would hope so, wouldn't you

HateIsNotGood · 17/12/2019 22:00

That sounds like a very useful and productive use of your time Peregrina. I remember a time, as you probably do too, when charitable and voluntary work was underaken without letting everyone know about it via social media; I think they call it 'virtue signalling'.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/12/2019 22:01

"The thread police are already whining that it should be moved to Politics. "

Brexiters have always been very defensive whenever Brexit is scrutinised
They just want a few happy sound bites
