As ever, all are welcome - only one rule:

DON'T BE A TWAT!!

Note: I am a shit host, and not a patch on previous Landladies - I don't cook, I don't clean & I don't prepare drinks. I am a selfish bellend. If you want feeding, there's a microwave in back & a shop down the road. If you want drinks just help yourself 😘 - it's a free bar 🎉🥳🎈

Dusty just popping in to say don't let the bastards get you down! I've never, ever seen you post anything remotely racist and those utter turds on the other thread only use that particular stick to beat you with because they are angry and therefore resort to lies to try and make their argument. It's embarrassing.
I'm as left-wing as you come yet still voted Leave. Didn't vote for the Conservatives though, but DH and 19 year-old DD2 did, so my reluctant Labour vote was squashed Grin
Best of it is, despite the differing opinions amongst this family (DS 14 is a remainer/liberal democrat) we all manage to rub along just fine. Online representation of politics is nowhere near as hostile as what is played out across these boards. DD1 would have voted Labour but slept in after a night shift then couldn't be arsed to get out of bed to vote. So lesson learned for her Grin
So keep on keeping on Smile

AuldAlliance · 18/12/2019 22:35

Dusty, I hadn't seen your post that your screenshot was a photoshop of what a defintion in the dictionary should be. My mistake.

I used paragraphs. They are indicated by a shift to the following line, but not by a skipped line. This is often understood to indicate a change in paragraph. On the basis that these norms are clearly not universally accepted, I've skipped lines between paragraphs in this post.

My first sentence meant:

I don't know why you are saying "No shit Sherlock."

I can only presume it is because I said your photo was a fake and then Songsofexperience said the same thing.

There was a lag between their post and mine.

This is because my broadband is slow.

It took a long time to upload the screenshot in my post.

In the meantime, other posts appeared.

[I skipped a line between sentences here, for clarity's sake.]

If my syntax appears convoluted or breathless to you, I can only apologise. I write in a professional remit and it involves long sentences at times.

AuldAlliance · 18/12/2019 22:38

definition. Typo apology.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 18/12/2019 22:38

Online representatives should have been Real Life representation
Too many Baileys quaffed me'thinks Grin

DustyDiamond · 18/12/2019 22:42

Thank you Michael xx 💐🍷

Best of it is, despite the differing opinions amongst this family (DS 14 is a remainer/liberal democrat) we all manage to rub along just fine. Online representation of politics is nowhere near as hostile as what is played out across these boards.

This is the reality for most in real life Smile

I've said before on here, my best friend of decades is the polar opposite to me politically (she's an Indy supporting, remain voting, lefty hippy 🙄😂)
She phoned me first thing on Friday (we live at opposite ends of the country now) & we had a good natured breakdown of the GE result (similarly after the EU Ref)

On this thread there are posters of all political colours, and posters from across the socioeconomic spectrum - we all come from different perspectives but coalesce around a fundamental respect for democracy.
Mostly leavers, but remain voters too

We are all human beings & we all want the best outcomes, I truly believe this 😊

point of order....

I think that there are issues with how paragraphs appear on the app - something about users using them - gosh, how eloquent am I? - and then they don't appear when the posters hits "post".

so in many cases, lack of paras isn't indicative of a rant, just the oddities of MN!

DustyDiamond · 18/12/2019 22:46

No worries Auld 💐🕊

I made sure to post straight away purely because it was not my intention to mislead

Sometimes posts move faster than the refresh rate and things get missed 🍷

YY Autumn - the different apps & ways of using MN fuck about with the presentation something awful

Apologies Auld 💐

MichaelFabricantsHair · 18/12/2019 22:53

My dad (73 years old) is a lifelong Labour voter who voted Leave and my mam who is also in her 70s voted Remain. Half of our family are Scottish and those family members are split on the Indy vote. Quite a few Scottish, farming Tories scattered about the family too. Yet despite this, we all love each other and never let politics get in the way of respectful relationships.
These threads bring out the worst in people, honestly Dusty you've committed the cardinal sin of being an articulate and informed Leave voter Grin

AuldAlliance · 18/12/2019 23:01

Apology accepted, Dusty.

I saw your picture and went to check the Cambridge in horror, then I posted without seeing your disclaimer. I should have come back onto the thread first.

I'll just say that, in my line of work, misquoting a dictionary definition or falsifying a screenshot in that way would be considered deeply unprofessional and would render you liable to disciplinary proceedings. In any circumstances, I don't think it's something that should be taken lightly, especially on fast-moving threads.

Anyway, I'm away to bed now and I'll leave you all to it.

DustyDiamond · 18/12/2019 23:02

honestly Dusty you've committed the cardinal sin of being an articulate and informed Leave voter Grin

There's literally no such thing Michael 😱

Joking apart, the vast majority of people are just exactly like your family

I have honestly never had an actual angry exchange in real life about politics - robust discussions, yes - getting pissed off with each other, yes - but never ever actually angry

I don't even get angry on social media either (contrary to popular belief!) - I can get frustrated or irritated but never angry
It takes a hell of a lot for me to lose my temper

Auld, chill out.
This is a chat forum.
Now I know bellingsue has, by her close association with dominic Cummings lent us all an air of importance but this is just somewhere to chew the fat...

DustyDiamond · 18/12/2019 23:16

She's probs out with him tonight Raise 😱

Now he's got a bit of free time - she'll be giving him the inside track on next steps

Just popping in briefly for a nightcap.

A pleasure, SilverSurfer, I enjoyed your thread and it was good to see people of all political persuasions come together in a spirit of amity.

I tell a lie they nealry came to blows over a man

A man, Raise? A man? The divine Dominic is not just "a man". He is a god walking among mortals. Anyway, there was no chance of us coming to blows. Dusty has first dibs, I have second dibs, then it's Hospitality. It's only fair.

MichaelFabricantsHair, I'm glad your family remain united on the subject of family. That, to me, transcends everything. Great username btw.

And we are not isolated. We have NATO. All being well, and if common sense prevails, we will still have a good relationship with Europe on trade, security, intelligence and defence. I understand why people are nervous but in the end, it's in our mutual interests so let's give Boris some elbow room and see what he brings back.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 18/12/2019 23:31

quick nightcap

SingingLily · 18/12/2019 23:34

Evening, Walking. Still laughing fit to burst at that Spanish TV video.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/12/2019 00:23

I am off to bed, really dont get how so many posters are on line 24/7. Does no one have a job?

bellinisurge · 19/12/2019 06:07

Ha, love the idea that I crossed paths with Cummings when we were both in Moscow at the same time and kept in touch.😂😂😂😂😂
Well he didn't make it to our work's Christmas do last night.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 19/12/2019 07:41

Bell don't worry we know you have to be discreet Wink

We know what you've done Smile

I don't see us as isolated at all!
I see us tied to mostly inconsequential countries in the eu, trade wise its only 1 country that has any clout and that's Germany!

I see leaving these constraints as opening us up to the big wide world at last!

Our focus has always been global until the terrible decision to join closer ties with with the eu.

SingingLily · 19/12/2019 07:42

Morning, All!

It might be raining cats and dogs outside but all is calm, all is bright, here in the Arms. The complimentary breakfast tray awaits, piled high with the All Day Breakfast Barms and buttery crumpets. Help yourselves.

Such an exciting day lined up - the State Opening of Parliament and the Queen's Speech. HM probably has her lines by heart now but this time, it's for real. There'll be token resistance by the token Opposition but I'm sure the PM will take that in his stride. The only real question of the day will be did Lindsay find his wig? He might have to improvise. Still, he will restore dignity and gravitas at long last to the Speakership and gladden our hearts.

Ha, love the idea that I crossed paths with Cummings when we were both in Moscow at the same time and kept in touch

Morning, Bellini. Well, you would say that, wouldn't you Wink? Hope you had a great time at the works do. ☕️ for you.

Morning, Epic. ☕️ for you in a quiet corner of the snug. Not the Dom Raab corner, sadly. That's already over-subscribed and far too rowdy.

Kettle's on.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 19/12/2019 07:44

If anyone knows how I can trigger spell check on my phone... It currently highlights the word but doesn't give me the correct spelling!

It just said, add to dictionary. Confused

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 19/12/2019 07:45

Wonderful singing, anyone known the timing... I'll be stuck at work but would like to catch something...

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 19/12/2019 07:49

Morning all Brew

I must admit, my Christmas will be a lot happier now I know we’re definitely leaving the EU.

Grin

SingingLily · 19/12/2019 07:54

Morning, Raise and Dirty, ☕️ for you.

Yes, it's such a puzzle, isn't it? This preoccupation with tiny helpless Britain shivering in its isolation, unable to cope with living in a global world.

I cannot tell you how many people I've talked to in RL who are utterly convinced that it is impossible to buy anything from another country without a trade deal. "But what about Argentinian and Chilean wine? Californian wine? Peruvian asparagus? New Zealand lamb? All the Chinese products you can buy on Amazon? We don't have trade deals with those countries and yet somehow they magically appear", I say. "Ah yes", they say triumphantly, "we don't, but the EU does!" At which point, I have to resist banging my head on the table in frustration because (a) we are still, for the moment, in the EU, and (b) the EU doesn't have trade deals with those countries. Strangely enough, I have never had that conversation with a Leaver.

SingingLily · 19/12/2019 07:59

Mid-morning for the Queen's Speech, Raise. Her Majesty intends to finish it by 11.30. After all, she has a train to catch.
