As ever, all are welcome - only one rule:

DON'T BE A TWAT!!

Note: I am a shit host, and not a patch on previous Landladies - I don't cook, I don't clean & I don't prepare drinks. I am a selfish bellend. If you want feeding, there's a microwave in back & a shop down the road. If you want drinks just help yourself 😘 - it's a free bar 🎉🥳🎈

MarySidney I'm genuinely Shock

Goes back to what I said yesterday about short term memory and how politicians seek to exploit it.

Michael Martin, Betty Boothroyd Lisa Xmas Angry

Best wishes Epic Flowers I'll still post as if you're here to appreciate me - lurk, ignore or drop by any time you like - I'll miss you but you're contribution will always stand.

(bit philosophical today as was reading about Dietrich Boenhoffer this morning: "“Not everyone can wait: neither the sated nor the satisfied nor those without respect can wait. The only ones who can wait are people who carry restlessness around with them.”)

Feels like we've all been waiting a long time already ....

SingingLily · 18/12/2019 12:20

Epic, I can't say goodbye to you because you have become a friend. You've cheered me up when I've needed it most and I don't want to lose you. So I'm only going to say au revoir, in the hope that one day, I will see you again.

Take good care of yourself, my lovely, and if you ever need some of my daft nonsense to cheer you up in RL, or just someone to offer you a listening ear and some quiet support, you know what to do. 💐

BoswellSolver · 18/12/2019 12:22

I get it Epic. I left Twitter for my mental health. I've been here (brexit threads) since before the referendum, when smallfox was still around to insult us all. I name change a lot though, it keeps them from stalking you.
My prediction is that they will be starved of drama, as we aren't actually going to fall off a cliff, or eating cold beans by candlelight, so they will just taper off into oblivion.
Xx

BoswellSolver · 18/12/2019 12:26

@SingingLily stop....I'm already a bit tearful from the nativity this morning, it's honestly disgusting the way we have been treated. Why are we losing our patrons!?

Same happened to Winchester, and many more no doubt.
Sad

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 18/12/2019 12:37

epic

I’m sorry you feel you need to leave, but I quite understand

I’d say ignore the twats...but i know thats an incredibly hard thing to do

Saucery · 18/12/2019 12:40

Epic they know nothing about you, apart from how you voted. So if you’re not a thick racist pay them no mind, because they aren’t referring to you, just name calling. It’s quite pathetic to see the abuse flying about now. I doubt they are an asset to their community in any way, for all their blather.

SingingLily · 18/12/2019 12:50

Sorry, Boswell, didn't mean to make you teary! Watching a Nativity play will do that to me every time too - all those smiley little faces doing their very best and blossoming under the applause.

I had hidden the thread concerned but went over to have a look. It's not all of them by any means. Bellini has tried to be the voice of reason and she is not the only one doing so. Both Epic and Dusty were doing a valiant job challenging the misinformation but there are a couple of particularly hardline posters on there that I've encountered on other threads and they never add light to any discussion, only heat.

A long long time ago, I was told that in any group of twenty people or so, two will think you are the bee's knees, two will think you are Satan in disguise - in both cases, totally regardless of what you might say or do - and the rest are in the middle, waiting to make up their minds either way.

It seems that one or two people think we are racist on here, all of us, but when challenged by Dusty, said they hadn't been in the Arms for a long time and couldn't be bothered to trawl back and look for the allegedly racist posts. So that, I think, answers that.

Some people on MN don't like us. Fact. Some people in RL don't like us as individuals. Fact. That's how the world is and I'm not going to worry about it.

If there was any racism on here, I would call it out without hesitation - but I'd have to be quick to be first in the queue to do so.

BoswellSolver · 18/12/2019 12:54

One poster on the Boris thread asking for acid and rat poison, and an earlier post saying how fetid the brexit arms was.
They have really crossed over, haven't they.

AutumnRose1 · 18/12/2019 12:55

Boswell the rat poison is one post I might ordinarily report - but it's good to let it stand in this case actually.

BoswellSolver · 18/12/2019 12:56

Ah, I've already reported, but I get receipts!

DuckWillow · 18/12/2019 12:58

I can’t wait for Brexit now. To be frank I think three years have been wasted in discussing it and arguing about it.

Parliament has been hamstrung by it. I didn’t want Boris as PM (nor Corbyn for that matter) but I am delighted that we once again have a majority Govt who can get things done.

I’ve said on other threads that I don’t think Brexit will be all wonderful but nor do I think it will be the disaster others are saying. All being well we will get something in between with some good stuff, some not so good stuff and we will work round issues as and when they arise.

Hopefully the two year transition will allow a lot of stuff to be ironed out meaning a fairly seamless exit.

SingingLily · 18/12/2019 13:04

I think that's a very reasonable position to take, DuckWillow. We are where we are. Standing still is no longer an option. We have to move forward.

AutumnRose1 · 18/12/2019 13:06

my late father was a passionate Remainer

I can't know what he would have done, of course. But I know some of his friends, who were also passionate Remainers, voted Conservative to get Brexit done. They weren't happy about politicians ignoring the result of a referendum and talking down to the electorate as if they didn't know what they were doing.

SingingLily · 18/12/2019 13:10

They put democracy first, Autumn, and although that would have cost them a pang as passionate Remainers, they upheld the greater principle. I take my hat off to them.

DustyDiamond · 18/12/2019 13:11

I've been here (brexit threads) since before the referendum, when smallfox was still around to insult us all.

There's a blast from the past 😮😱😩

Don't say her name three times or she'll appear as if from nowhere & swoop 😱

I name change a lot though, it keeps them from stalking you.

Me too until I started posting earlier this year under this name

Now I just think: fuck em

There's some lovely posters all over the various threads but a very few nasty bastards are very very vocal
(Much like real life where the shouty few ruin things for the rest)

💐 Epic

Big kisses as ever - have a lovely Xmas & fabby new year xx

Hope to see you back soon, but if not then def come back in the NEW DECADE! (😱) with fresh vigour ✊✊✊✊✊

Big hugs to everyone else on these threads as well
We've put up with so much shit & abuse over the last few years but we're still here & still #winning

Fuck the haterz - they ain't worth it huns!

Xmas Smile✊💐

so do I lily

also, I think a lot of us non-white British people have been worried about the lack of sensible conversation on immigration, because it puts us all in one block of "other".

DustyDiamond · 18/12/2019 13:13

It's not all of them by any means. Bellini has tried to be the voice of reason and she is not the only one doing so.

Agree Lily

It's most definitely not all of them by any means, only a very few (maybe 3 or 4?)

Big love to Bellini as well 😍

Relieved to see you, Dusty. I'd put a very large 🍷 on the bar for you but I'm guessing you are still at work.

Nil carborundum. Or perhaps that should be Nil Corbyrundum. Grin

Phone ran out of charge this morning after all the keyboard warrioring so I went out to buy a charger & ended up skiving off for a long lunch with one of my pals 😂

Am back now so should probs pretend to be busy.... 😳😂

Yes, Autumn, we need a clearly stated national position on that, one that draws off all the anti-immigration poison, and reminds us that we are and have always been a country that has welcomed others (Windrush aside, a shameful thing).

For the benefit of any non-regulars, immigration was never one of my reasons for voting Leave. It would have been a mite hypocritical given that my mother's parents were economic migrants and my father's side were religious refugees. I was myself a child migrant to Canada.

AutumnRose1 · 18/12/2019 13:25

Singing "It would have been a mite hypocritical given that my mother's parents were economic migrants and my father's side were religious refugees."

I feel very strongly that what your parents did doesn't need to define your position on immigration. I would be called a hypocrite too. My mother keeps saying "just remind everyone your parents were here due to an actual skills shortage". But this is such a shocking topic for a lot of people, I don't think that can be said any more either.

I don't think anything my parents did should be the frame of reference for judging me or my views. Or anyone else's for that matter.
