As ever, all are welcome - only one rule:

DON'T BE A TWAT!!

Note: I am a shit host, and not a patch on previous Landladies - I don't cook, I don't clean & I don't prepare drinks. I am a selfish bellend. If you want feeding, there's a microwave in back & a shop down the road. If you want drinks just help yourself 😘 - it's a free bar 🎉🥳🎈

Great pic How! 😊🥂

Salted butter, in curls? No problem. For me, the balancing act is when to apply a liberal smear of marmalade (on toast, of course; sacrilege with toasted tea cakes). The butter mustn't have quite melted.

Epic, there's no one in the snug at the moment. We could turn the lights off in there and you could sit in the soothing warmth, resting, while still hearing the banter at the bar. Just shout when you need another ☕️ Migraines are a nightmare Thanks

In more good news, the new Equalities Minister is Therese Coffey. Why? Well, she was brought up in Liverpool as a Catholic. I suspect her Catholicism is much the same as mine. The pragmatic sort, the one that lives in the real world (my Mass-attending auntie long ago told me that the Pope might have his views on contraception but she had hers, and what would he know as a celibate man anyway? She still considered herself a devout Catholic, by the way, just one who also lived in the real world). Early news is that Therese is already aware of the Tavistock Clinic concerns, women's prisons, women's sports, etc. I doubt she will be jumping on the woke bus for woke points anytime soon.

Nippy. She's the tartan gift that keeps on giving, isn't she? If she's not careful, she'll do for IndyRef2 what Jezza did for Corbynism. People hate being preached to.

Thank you lovely, luckily I’m not as crippled by them as others can be, and I don’t need to do the darkened room thing, but they do make me very foggy and nauseous... 😕. It’s a hormonal thing that started in my mid 30’s, yay for being 40... 🎉🙄 I can almost set my watch by the bastards...

And... I was raised a catholic. It’s safe to say, I am very very much lapsed... 😂😂😂 It turned me to Antitheism.

SingingLily · 17/12/2019 11:11

And... I was raised a catholic. It’s safe to say, I am very very much lapsed... 😂😂😂 It turned me to Antitheism.

😂🤣😂🤣 I'm not quite there, Epic. I still murmur a prayer for whoever is in an ambulance every time one goes speeding past and I still cross myself when I see awful news on the TV.

It did turn me into a feminist at the tender age of eight, though Grin

“😂🤣😂🤣 I'm not quite there, Epic. I still murmur a prayer for whoever is in an ambulance every time one goes speeding past and I still cross myself when I see awful news on the TV.”

It’s still almost a reflex to me, to do the sign of the cross if I see a hearse with a passenger... 😬😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 17/12/2019 11:18

“It did turn me into a feminist at the tender age of eight, though grin”

Imagine that, being lectured to, about family values and contraception by celibate men, within the most patriarchical of structures, would turn women to feminism. Who knew? 😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 17/12/2019 11:20

No disrespect meant to those that still practice of course. It just looks different from the other side!

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 17/12/2019 11:22

The matriarchs of my family, wore veils to church visited lourdes, had holy water in the hall and those lovely tin Jesus and Mary pictures everywhere. They were very devout.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 17/12/2019 11:23

My grandmother, remained devout, despite having been practically ex-communicated for having the gall to divorce her feckless philandering husband. That one always confused me a tad as a child...

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 17/12/2019 11:26

Apologies for derailing folks! Lol ⛪️

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 17/12/2019 11:47

Sorry guys, I’ve killed the Convo haven’t I? 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

Come back! 👋

SingingLily · 17/12/2019 11:49

The matriarchs of my family, wore veils to church visited lourdes, had holy water in the hall and those lovely tin Jesus and Mary pictures everywhere. They were very devout.

I think we may be related, Epic Smile

Once, in an attempt to please my disapproving mother, I asked an elderly Irish nun of my acquaintance if she could kindly find for me a spare prayer card with St Anthony on it. My mother adores St Anthony and the poor man gets his ears bashed every day, several times a day, with her general disappointment with modern life. A few days later, Sr Benedicta turned up with a huge parcel - a humongous portrait of the man himself - as a gift for my mother "as one Catholic Irishwoman to another". She had obviously nicked it off the convent walls. Grin

Anyway, back on topic, here is today's Telegraph cartoon, which seems to confirm Jezza's view.

It's not him, it's us...

The Brexit Arms: Here it is! MERRY BREXIT!!!
EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 17/12/2019 11:59

😂😂😂😂😂 love that story!

Pic is missing on the Jezza from though!

SingingLily · 17/12/2019 12:03

Perhaps the Labour Party's patron saint should be St Jude?

hospitalityinspector · 17/12/2019 12:39

Great pic Howabout I expect a few Tattingers helped her along Grin
She must feel conflicted but very happy for the landslide victory.

I'm lol-ing at Epic and Lily with all that crossing themselves. They must have repetitive strain syndrome with all the recent shenanigans in parliament.

Hope you soon feel better Epic. Brew

howabout · 17/12/2019 13:03

Feel better soon Epic. Flowers I am similarly afflicted, although not today. It sucks.

SingingLily · 17/12/2019 13:21

😂Hospitality.

The snug is open for you too, Howabout, plus copious cups of tea. Hope you are feeling better soon.

If anyone wants to look at the reasoning behind the Conservative manifesto, here's an article from one of the women who helped write it:

https://www.conservativehome.com/platform/2019/12/rachel-wolf-i-co-wrote-this-conservative-manifesto-and-so-can-say-that-its-focus-was-on-neither-the-rich-nor-the-poor

In other news, the Rebecca Long-Bailey/Angela Rayner joint ticket appears to be gaining momentum. I've got a lot of time for Angela Rayner - don't agree with her on everything, but often enough to listen carefully - but RLB as leader? She supported Jezza's leadership bid in 2015 and her own leadership bid now has the support of John McDonnell. 😱

Never mind the old #LaboursNotWorking slogan. It's now #LaboursNotListening.

What a gift to Dmitri. He does like his three-word slogans.

DustyDiamond · 17/12/2019 14:00

Conservative Home is a rabbit warren Lily! 😂

Another article from there by Ben Bradley on blue collar conservatism, which is the perspective I come from (and my parents)

Important that former Red areas have flipped Blue, but the important thing now is to prove to them that they matter
Labour have ignored working class for far too long & have increasingly misrepresented what we actually are

https://www.conservativehome.com/platform/2019/12/ben-bradley-voters-tore-down-the-red-wall-because-they-were-sick-of-labour-talking-down-to-them-and-holding-them-back.html

Remember me saying the LibDem increase from 2017 was coming from Remain Tories? Well YouGov have done some analysis. 22% 2017 Remain Tories defected to the LibDems. Remain was about 30% of Tory vote in 2017 so 22% of that is at least the 4% LibDem bounce from 2017.

The graphic is at YouGov twitter - I'm hopeless at pictures linking. The other thing, which everyone else is focusing on, is the 33% Labour Leave vote which went Tory with another 6% to the Brexit Party.

Just in case anyone other than Emily T was in any doubt.

Lot of chatter saying RLB/AR ticket is the wrong way round. I agree with you Lily and so do lots of others.

Limer · 17/12/2019 14:27

Afternoon, everyone! Large coffee with brandy cream, and a warm mince pie please.

So true that the working class are aspirational. And have always been so. The grassroots Labour movement knows this, but the North London metropolitan elite Labour movement doesn't.

Boris is certainly hitting the ground running. Brilliant news Grin

Limer · 17/12/2019 14:35

Strikes me that Labour realise they face years in the wilderness - it's a bit like the Conservatives were after the Blair victory in 1997. So they've got nothing to lose by giving various outlandish ideas a try, e.g. northern young woman as leader. Conservatives did similar with William Hague, a northern young man (with his cringeworthy credentials aged 15 at the Tory conference). And look how well that approach worked for the next 2 elections Grin

howabout · 17/12/2019 14:46

Gina Miller has got the memo. I agree with most of this (wonder if she's the mysterious silent regular in the corner).

SingingLily · 17/12/2019 14:47

😂Limer - William "I can wear my baseball cap backwards and still down a pint faster than you coz I'm dead hard, me" Hague? I remember that. Fairly sure he played up his Yorkshire accent for the cameras.

As a Conservative, I say "RLB/AR? Bring it on. Ten more years, at least."

As someone who prizes democracy above all else, I say "Labour - what are you thinking????"

Howabout, here's a nice statistic for you in case you want to challenge anyone who thinks Jezza was not a factor.
