As ever, all are welcome - only one rule:

DON'T BE A TWAT!!

Note: I am a shit host, and not a patch on previous Landladies - I don't cook, I don't clean & I don't prepare drinks. I am a selfish bellend. If you want feeding, there's a microwave in back & a shop down the road. If you want drinks just help yourself 😘 - it's a free bar 🎉🥳🎈

There's a fair few more pages since I last posted, will have a read in a bit, but just to reply to a few points/questions from yesterday.

Memorial have you and your boyfriend not already thrashed both sides of the argument sufficiently? No point in re-litigating now. Time to build bridges.

He is pretty private about his political views, and tends not to want to have in depth debates about them, so though we have had some conversations, we haven't thrashed it out. I agree, there is no point re-litigating, debating the arguments or trying to change anyone's mind.

There are some quarters of labour who are exactly that. Rather like someone who is deeply religious, it colours every thought and view. That's exactly the same with some of the Labour supporters we see, including of course corbyn. So you can't engage with them no, because it's like they are brainwashed. This is why the Labour Party is in general finding self reflection almost impossible... It doesn't fit with the credence and essence....

@RaiseaGlasstoFreedom thank you for the clarification, and sorry I misunderstand what you meant.

@DustyDiamond thank you for the dove and the Wine

Memorial the other thing from your post which many Remainers have said on these boards is..''I want to understand the other side'' Usually followed by excellent in depth responses from leavers on all aspects of leave at various times. Usually followed by avoidance tactics from the Remainers and rude comments. I would ask how any one has got to this stage of matters and can't understand any whys?

@RaiseaGlasstoFreedom I did look at the arguments for both sides and weighed them up before making my decision. I guess when saying I want to understand, I am not saying I don't know what the arguments are/were, I am more wondering what it was which swayed people to leave rather than remain - was it one particular reason, a combination of all, was it because they fundamentally disagreed with the remain arguments, or was it more nuanced than that with leave winning because remain reasons were just that bit weaker/less persuasive. As per the "no point re-litigating" bit above, I'm not asking nor expecting anyone here to directly answer any of these questions, I will keep browsing the thread, and some of the answers may become clear as discussion continues, others I may ask about in future if the subject arises.
I did see a small number of the threads where leave voters were asked to explain their reasons, but once I saw the way the first ones went I tended not to read others.

MemorialBeach · 16/12/2019 20:19

I think I just had a vague memory that at least one person one here asked not to be @ ed (if that's the right term) to avoid all the notifications, so sorry if it was one of the people I just did it to.

A survey to get Nigel in the talks,

There would be no Brexit without him!

Wine I don't post often so apologies if this isn't allowed Halo

It was me who asked, Memorial, but don't worry, it wasn't you who did it Smile

Probably best if you just keep reading the thread to get a better sense of why people voted as they did. We all have fairly clear and consistent priorities and principles. It's not that I don't want to lay out my reasons. It's just that every time I have been invited to do so, it has always been a trap. I realise you don't mean it that way but that's been my experience 🤷🏼‍♀️

time4chocolate · 16/12/2019 20:52

We are very easy going here Firecarrier 🍷 We don’t have any rules but twattage and/or goady wotsits get short shrift.

XingMing · 16/12/2019 21:25

When I put my cross in the Leave box, it was
--partly about sovereignty and self government (or the loss thereof)
--partly about the cronyism and jobs for the boyz of the EU, and its bully tactics
--partly the direction from my not-quite-18 yo DS, who was asked which way he wanted me to vote, as he would live with the result for longer
-partly a belief that no set of policies will suit every nation from Russia west to Portugal, or from Scandinavia to Sicily, unless every nation is willing to sign up for a single taxation and fiscal regime, with uniform standard rules on retirement ages, health policy and benefit entitlements.

Or, as we see in France at the moment, certain groups taking direct action to protect their entitlement to retire at 55, because in 1975 their union allowed their workers to be bought off with a sweetheart deal, while others have to wait to 62 or 64, while in the UK our government has decided that 67 is the new retirement age.

Where a Cornish fisherman can't land the 400lb tuna he has caught just off the Devon coast but a French fisherman is allowed to, because the UK has no tuna quota.

Things like that rankle.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 21:27

‘Happily ever after’ 🤦🏻‍♀️ The shame Blush... lol

SingingLily · 16/12/2019 22:05

Anyone else read that Labour MPs are meeting tomorrow to choose an interim leader - Dame Margaret Hodge is apparently the one chosen - and are going ahead with that whether Jezza likes it or not. They are refusing to recognise his authority as leader.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 22:17

Hey Lily, I haven’t seen that yet, where did you pick it up?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/12/2019 22:17

"Robert Peston
@Peston
Johnson to change Withdrawal Agreement Bill to put into law that transition arrangements with EU, during which UK is in effect non-voting member of EU, must end 31 Dec 2020. Will be seen as increasing risk of delayed no-deal Brexit."

#GETBREXITDONE

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/12/2019 22:19

I am so looking forward to the first PMQs, Boris is going to have a field day with Corbyn. It will be a mauling. I hope a first aider is ready on hand.

I wonder will Labour MPs have the nerve to stand behind him on the green benches?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 22:53

“I am so looking forward to the first PMQs, Boris is going to have a field day with Corbyn. It will be a mauling. I hope a first aider is ready on hand.”

I was wondering about this too... do you think he will have the gall? Or will they topple him beforehand? It’s gonna be really awkward, no shadow cabinet changes and them all sat there on the front benches as per, senior mp’s baying for his blood on his own side etc...

It’s all very gladitorial isn’t it? Personally, If he does go, I can’t wait either... 😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 22:55

Normally I can’t bear the bullshit and shenanigans, but this one I would pay to watch...
