Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour

RTB and BCF are presumably busy with more important things. I'm clearly not qualified to start a Westminsterenders thread - but somebody has to take control and collect the waifs and strays.

The party of no talent want to introduce no colour into our lives.

6 days to the election.

Johnson is still a liar.

Corbyn is still apparently loved by Labour members and hated by everyone else.

Swinson is still a charming PTA chair.

Yet another poll that cannot add up .... 5% missing and the changes do not tally
why on earth do you (and others) trust such rubbish ?

Jason118 · 08/12/2019 20:07

It's either a delusion or a salary.

The SNP got 3% in the last election. There are other small parties as well

chomalungma · 08/12/2019 20:14

Always look beyond the data

Cons 31%
Lab 25%
Lib Dem 9%
Refused 4%
Won't vote 9%
Don't know 13%

choma
then the SNP should show
or there should be a line for "other"
and what about "undecided"
My faith in polling and I say this as a member of the YouGov panel is rock bottom

and TBH round here there is no SNP or Plaid or the NI parties

but 20 year olds will never get final salary pensions

Awkward question alert ! But why won't 20 yr old's get a final salary pension ? Are they less deserving ?

dreichXmas · 08/12/2019 20:20

No.
But final salary pensions are all but dead, if not actually so.

Random18 · 08/12/2019 20:20

Over 40 here and will never get a final salary pension 😭😭😭😭

OublietteBravo · 08/12/2019 20:22

They won’t get a final salary pension because they don’t really exist any more. I can’t think of anywhere that has a final salary scheme open to new joiners. If they are ^extremely lucky* they might still be able to join a career average defined benefit scheme. Most likely they will only have a defined contribution scheme.

Find me an employer still offering final salary pensions to all employees
(warning, I'm a pensions nerd)

The private sector shut them down in the 90's
Top staff get generous DC pensions, but that is still not DBFS

The Public sector shut off the FS pensions in 2012, not its all career average

Directors and MPs and Judges still look after themselves
but everybody else under 50 is screwed

squid4 · 08/12/2019 20:26

For the poll geeks this is ... interesting

twitter.com/centrist_phone/status/1203719501881188354

Reweighting the polls to what he thinks is more accurate (he goes into great detail on this) gives a 2.84% Tory lead.

AskingQuestions whereabouts were you leafleting? Or you might prefer not to say but I'm curious.

Wycombe. It's quite a large area, and the ERG chairman won it in 2017 with a 6,578 majority over Labour (down from 14,856 in 2015) so we are regarding it as a marginal and working on that basis.

He has played the "poor little me I get death threats" card (someone on Facebook said in jest that he deserved to be dunked in acid, or something of the sort; I've spoken to her, and there is absolutely no way it could possibly be taken as a serious threat, not from her) so he gets a police escort when he turns up for hustings. They look very bored.

Stinkyeddie · 08/12/2019 20:29

Pemsion???
Haha, yeah, right.

Loving the Get Boris out trending on Twitter.

stripeypillowcase · 08/12/2019 20:34

I have a final salary pension but salary is divided into basic and complimentary - suddenly 'final salary' is not quite as attractive anymore compared to a private scheme.

OublietteBravo · 08/12/2019 20:39

I don’t have a final salary pension. I do have a career average pension, but this is no longer open to anyone joining the company - only to existing employees already in the scheme. And the accrual rate has dropped from 1/60 per annum to 1/80 per annum.

chomalungma · 08/12/2019 20:39

I have a final salary pension

I had one...but life decisions got in the way....

Still, it's only money......Sad

ListeningQuietly · 08/12/2019 20:40

stripey
Please could you explain why you think that a DC scheme is EVER better than a final salary scheme ??????

boatyardblues · 08/12/2019 20:49

Loving the Get Boris out trending on Twitter.

Is there any chance of him being out on his arse in his constituency?

stripeypillowcase · 08/12/2019 20:58

my final salary pension is calculated on the basic salary only. which is only about half of the total current salary.

Ellie56 · 08/12/2019 21:00

From what I've read they are doing their best to oust him boatyardblues.

What a great Christmas that would be! Xmas Grin

Icantreachthepretzels · 08/12/2019 21:02

pretty much sums it up

Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour
Alsohuman · 08/12/2019 21:05

I wonder if they’d elevate the South Holland and Deepings MP to the Lords so Johnson could slip in there.

OublietteBravo · 08/12/2019 21:09

my final salary pension is calculated on the basic salary only. which is only about half of the total current salary.

My career average is similar. Only the basic salary used to calculate the 1/80 per annum accrual rate is a little under 30% of my current salary. It’s shit. I’m unlikely to get even 25% of my current salary when I retire (and that’s assuming I work until I’m 67).

squid4 · 08/12/2019 21:31

Well just had a cheery hour long discussion with DP about how I think I'm going to resign from my job if Tories get in with a majority. Lots of doctors I know are saying same. Sad
