Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour

FishesaPlenty · 06/12/2019 16:49

RTB and BCF are presumably busy with more important things. I'm clearly not qualified to start a Westminsterenders thread - but somebody has to take control and collect the waifs and strays.

The party of no talent want to introduce no colour into our lives.

6 days to the election.

Johnson is still a liar.

Corbyn is still apparently loved by Labour members and hated by everyone else.

Swinson is still a charming PTA chair.

I wish a few stars would do what Hugh Grant is doing, though.

Britain Elects
@britainelects
Putney, constituency voting intention:

CON: 38% (-6)
LAB: 35% (-6)
LDEM: 24% (+12)
GRN: 2% (-)

via @DeltapollUK
, 26 Nov - 01 Dec
Chgs. w/ GE2017

If you vote Lib Dem in Putney, you’re going to end up with a Tory MP, and you will increase the chances of a Tory majority and Hard Brexit. Share this with everyone you know.

Dusty
That is fab
and Ben's point about that demonisation of a JEWISH labour leader is bang on

mathanxiety · 07/12/2019 21:01

You'd be amazed the level of anger some people have towards foodbanks and very their existence.
Shock

Your parish council would probably have pitch capped this woman and hundreds like her @Stinkyeddie:
www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2017/01/11/508931473/a-new-type-of-food-pantry-is-sprouting-in-yards-across-america

(The 'little free library' boxes are just like the food box pictured, only with books. My suburb has more than any other municipality in the US, apparently. Also a very active municipal food bank. I have never heard of any hostility toward anyone associated with the food bank. It's a point of pride that there is one and that it serves so many people. It has partnerships with local supermarkets and runs a delivery service.)

MistiMorning · 07/12/2019 21:05

Re lamb exports

Exports largely aim to address imbalances in demand for different cuts and the higher supply of sheep meat at certain times of year. Also, additional markets have had to be found to take items for which there is no or minimal demand on the domestic market, including offal and skins.

DGRossetti · 07/12/2019 21:07

Seems Boris has admitted the leaked documents are genuine.

Led By Donkeys say that the Tories will do a Facebook blitz of disinformation next week. They're fundraising to counteract it, and have raised a huge amount of money very quickly.

Digital campaigning is beyond my understanding. None has ever made its way onto my screen.

I am not a sheep farmer, but I can read the trade figures
britishmeatindustry.org/industry/imports-exports/sheepmeat/
Brexit will destroy the sheep industry

Free trade with the USA will destroy beef, pork and poultry

No thank you

Britain Elects
@britainelects
I also asked the question about why this poll only added up to 95%

Election Maps UK
@ElectionMapsUK
· 4h
Westminster Voting Intention:

CON: 42% (=)
LAB: 36% (+4)
LDM: 11% (-1)
BXP: 4% (+1)
GRN: 2% (=)

I got this answer. I don't understand what it means but some of you might:

This is Gina Millers poll which didn’t prompt. So basically allowed folk to choose BXP in seats they weren’t standing in.

Note to clear up the confusion re: today's @SavantaComRes
polling, one showing Con +8, and one Con +6:

Con +8 published by a newspaper (FW: 04 - 05 Dec); Con +6 published by 'Remain United' (FW: 02 - 05 Dec).

The one published by Remain United did not prompt candidates.

HateIsNotGood · 07/12/2019 21:22

Ok LQ - I'll disengage.

I just want to say I really respect derxha for her 'nothing but maybe a little dot' posts - I like them, because to me they represent the 'I have something to say, but I'm not saying it now, just letting you know' way of thinking.

See you folks after the GE, which I hope leads to a Parliament that is capable of making decisions. If it's Tory, I give them 2 years max.

Stinkyeddie · 07/12/2019 21:24

Donated to led by donkeys, thanks x

TheMustressMhor · 07/12/2019 21:26

If it's Tory, I give them 2 years max

You don't sound keen on a Tory win Hate which surprises me, given your previous posts.

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2019 21:26

Hateisnotgood
Why do you want to disengage?
Do you admit that Brexit will be an utter shitstorm for farmers like Derxa ?
Shall we start on the Grimsby fishermen ???

mathanxiety · 07/12/2019 21:34

@ DGRossetti Sat 07-Dec-19 17:11:41

The comment on that thread from the sister of the 35 year old shows that there are people in the UK who might as well be living in the US, and probably absorb most of their assumptions about how politics works from The West Wing and other American TV shows.

Also sad lack of paying attention in school and/or lack of Civics knowledge.

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2019 21:48

Mellow telly volume 3
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01rdqn7/episodes/guide
And as somebody who viscerally remembers the Portillo Moment

its astounding to think that he was at the extreme right wing of the party at the time
I wonder where he'd slot in with Priti and Raab and Smug ?

HateIsNotGood · 07/12/2019 21:57

Mustress - I'm not a keen Tory, but I voted to Leave, and given everything I have heard and learned and researched since, I'm voting Tory in the next GE as I think the current govt is best placed to get Brexit going.

Thankfully i don't have to hold my nose too much as he's a pretty good MP and has advocated in Parliament towards improving laws regarding a vulnerable group of people, one of whom I care for.

LQ I don't want to disengage but 'trade figures' don't relate much to the sheep farmer who is mostly concerned with the 'hammer price'. It doesn't matter who buys it, guvment chap, nor Hardings down the Road who buys most anyway - it's the 'hammer price' that matters.

Alsohuman · 07/12/2019 21:57

That’s what I can’t get my head round now, all those Tories we detested in the early 90s look so damned reasonable now.

HesterThrale · 07/12/2019 21:58

Guildford. Looks like Anne Milton, ex-Tory MP, now Independent, could split the Tory vote and let in the LD. Looks like tactical stuff going on too.

MistiMorning · 07/12/2019 22:00

trade figures' don't relate much to the sheep farmer

Except that margins are extremely slim in sheep farming. If you take away a third of current demand, what do you think will happen to prices?

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2019 22:05

Hateisnotgood
'trade figures' don't relate much to the sheep farmer who is mostly concerned with the 'hammer price'.
Piffle
The hammer price is linked to where the meat will end up and what the margin will be
if the cutters cannot sell they will not buy

dreichXmas · 07/12/2019 22:13

Most of the hill farmers I grew up with have gone and not been replaced.
I seriously worry about the mental health of those left following a hard Brexit.
I have never lived anywhere with such a high suicide rate as the farming community I lived in.
It may be Island life added to that but it is a very hard life with few outs.

HateIsNotGood · 07/12/2019 22:30

Misti prices will crash and the UK Govt pays by Direct Payment (not via several admin layers, devaluing the payment) the difference in 'price'. Therefore, the UK Govt will own quite a bit of Lamb and will need to do something with it.

I'm pretty certain that there's enough available recordings substantiating BJ's promise that the sheep farmers won't suffer.

Depends if you think the UK's sheep farmers are worth supporting. I think they are - but don't let that put you off supporting them too; wouldn't it be a sad thing if you didn't support sheep farmers only because a Leaver does.

Perish that thought - I'm sure none here would be so small-minded.

Peregrina · 07/12/2019 22:33

BJ's promise

What are the promises of a known liar and cheat worth?

PawFives · 07/12/2019 22:33

I know Cat it doesn’t make sense, especially as the narrative is that people voted for Brexit because the were fed up with austerity & they believed the bus. God, it’s depressing, it feels like this election has been going on forever but as much as I want it to be over until it is there’s still that tiny bit of hope the Tories won’t get their majority.

thecatfromjapan · 07/12/2019 22:36

I'm getting flashbacks to the Referendum, where Leave people came onto MN promising the moon in a stick, in sincere and assertive tones - quite groundlessly, as it turned out.
