Said towel @flouncyfanny .
I went for "second cheapest best reviews on Amazon " @Nottrueatall . It was about £35 (I think) but that might have been an offer. It's brand is Carew.
Excalibur is literally the holy grail of dehydrators but too expensive for me. Up to £50 would get you a good one.

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/09/2019 17:08

You need to @bellinisurge and @OhYouBadBadKitten for dehydrator advice.

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/09/2019 17:09

Ha, beat me to it!

bellinisurge · 15/09/2019 17:10

Oo @flouncyfanny - photo fail . Here you go.

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/09/2019 17:11

I really ought to tackle the kitchen of doom....

bellinisurge · 15/09/2019 17:11

And @Nottrueatall , I have a Callow not a Carew. Brain fog .

I did the kitchen of doom yesterday. I need to put the washing away though. I'll do that while DH bathes the kids.

I think / know we're buying a new - to us - car this week as our current ropey French! car is on its last legs. That should solve one issue (needing car parts urgently).

We're getting a Volvo V50. We need an estate for the allotment / DH's tools!

Nottrueatall · 15/09/2019 19:14

Ok. Smile Thanks bellini, I've been looking at that one but wasn't sure.

My Dad has been a beekeeper for over 30 years. Never been politically minded. Never voted in an election (he came from a small pit mining village - think he never felt he knew enough about politics to vote responsibly) But he was first out of the traps on the day of the Referendum. He was clearly spurred on by the fact that the EU police the pesticides that kill bees. The UK has made no bones about the fact they couldn't give a shit about using pesticides that kill bees. I guess this is where farmers and beekeepers collide. He's also a fisherman. A lot of fishermen voted Leave as they believe the EU police / control what they can catch.
It's a double edged sword for a lot of industries. But on the whole, those who have actually, really thought about it must be now shifting themselves.
Some will never want to lose face. Some will admit that yes, we are in real trouble.
My Dad has just informed me that he's going to have to buy £££ of beekeeping supplies now, as Brexit is going to have such a massive impact (financially and logistically)
We also usually source new Queen bees from Germany. As strange as this may sound, they come through the post. This is very time critical. They cost us money. We aren't beekeepers that make millions. They just keep our hives happy and healthy with good, virus free European Bees.
Everyone is affected individually. This is a very specific situation to us. But like those who rely on the EU for trade, medication or otherwise, it's bloody important. And worth more than the hard line Brexiteers will ever know. They are all right, jack. May not see the everyday chaos. May not foresee any long term health problems they currently don't have.

I've had an email from Jo Swinson. She is not my preferred leader. But the Lib Dems are the only party currently vowing to cancel Brexit.
If you'd like to Google and sign, thank you.
In the meantime, I'm stockpiling meds, food and anything I can get my hands on (currently single parent and not getting much work, thanks to Wowcher and Groupon putting my industry out of business)

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 19:33

Sorry for the stupidly long post.

bellinisurge · 15/09/2019 19:51

@Nottrueatall obviously your call. I've had mine over a year. It's a bit noisy but it works fine for now. Like most things you get what you pay for and I wasn't prepared to cough up for an untested tactic. Dehydrating foods is a bit of a faff but it's gone well so far. I've saved space in my freezer and dipped into it for ingredients a few times.

yolofish · 15/09/2019 20:08

conor I love the sound of your angry beekeeper dad! It's funny (well, kind of...) what brings out people's thinking. I am currently anxious about how DH will get hold of his preferred colostomy bags, working on him to get GP to bring his prescription forward (eg he's using a lot at the moment, or the glue is not working properly or something). Otherwise I will encourage him to stand outside HoP minus bag and see what happens...

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 15/09/2019 21:09

I have shamelessly tried out the stash of orange matchmakers and can confirm that we need more boxes of them for over Christmas as they are delicious. I now feel a little nauseousBlush In my defence, I had needs. Small one is on his first full week of school tomorrow and I have vowed to live more healthily from then on.

I have yet again become fatigued by the westminstenders threads as the conjecture causes me anxiety. I'm not good with the unknown and until something is definite I'll stick to forward planning and purchasing. I feel better doing something rather than theorising as to what might happen.

gruesome a handhold from here. We have an 'urgent' oncology appt for DH tomorrow, despite being told 6 weeks ago his surgery complete success, cancer-free etc. What will be will be, no point try to second guess - says the woman who has been frantically clearing shit out of the house all w/e in displacement activity. But I know where you are coming from.
