Westminstenders: Charge!!!!

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered.
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Talking of withdrawal on 24th August - yes Boris Johnson probably could do this, but he can't just declare a General Election. The question then arises, would he get the Parliamentary majority he seeks to do this?

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2019 20:05

I'm not sure it would happen like that. Doesn't it give time for no deal chaos to be well and truly happening before Parliament even returns from recess? And, even if not quite fully by then, absolutely by the time a general election occurs, IF parliament votes for it (rather than letting Bozo be hoisted by his own petard and letting him try to fix it. Spoiler: he couldn't).

woman19 · 14/08/2019 20:13

He can do it unilaterally.

It would be illegal .

But then so is breaking electoral law, domestic violence, conspiracy to commit GBH, corruption while in public office etc etc.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2019 20:16

I don't think it'll fit with the narrative he wants to create about Brexit / how / when we leave, however.

HesterThrale · 14/08/2019 20:16

So sorry Imnotyourgranny it’s just not fair that so many people have been caused so much worry by all this. I hope your DD’s treatment goes well.

I feel another letter to my MP, who voted for no deal, coming on.

There seems to be a growing level of awareness and anxiety about no deal. This petition has suddenly picked up again recently. Only another week on it.

I'm so sorry Imnotyourgranny 💐
Your DD's illness is worrying enough without the fear of suddenly have to pay out thousands

Hopefully E27 govts won't retaliate against ordinary individuals, but instead say add it to the shitlist that the UK govt has to correct before trade talks can begin.

Icantreachthepretzels · 14/08/2019 20:30

Yes - if he takes us out early and its a disaster - he can hardly blame it on the EU can he? People will just say he should have kept us in until October and prepared better.

RHTawneyonabus · 14/08/2019 21:12

Ha it would have a certain irony if BJ did pull us out on 24 August and then expected Corbyn to save his arse and call for a NC vote before the brown stuff hit the fan, but Corbyn et al decided that they’d leave it for a while so the full effects of Brexit became obvious.

Hoooo · 14/08/2019 22:07

I'm feeling rather hopeless and anxious again this evening so am, of course, buying nice things to stash away to make me feel better.

My world may burn, but I will smell incredible!

HesterThrale · 14/08/2019 22:15

Sarah Wollaston has joined the Lib Dem’s.

Hoooo · 14/08/2019 22:39

From sky news just now:

"Jeremy Corbyn plans to block no-deal Brexit by becoming 'temporary' PM"

Oakenbeach · 14/08/2019 22:44

Jeremy Corbyn plans to block no-deal Brexit by becoming 'temporary' PM

And how exactly will he achieve that!

TokyoSushi · 14/08/2019 22:46

BREAKING: Corbyn has written to opposition parties & independents proposing:

🔻Vote of no confidence in Tory govt ASAP

🔻Temporary “caretaker” govt with Corbyn as leader

🔻Immediate extension of Article 50

🔻Then snap election, in which Lab would campaign for 2nd referendum

Tweet from Paul Brand ITV

TokyoSushi · 14/08/2019 22:47

And this:

However, in response:

🔸Lib Dems have immediately dismissed the idea, saying too many MPs are unwilling to work with Corbyn

✳️ Greens say a second referendum must be held before a general election

So we’re far from any stage where all parties are bought into this alliance.

TokyoSushi · 14/08/2019 22:48

So what now? More arguing and disagreement but essentially nothing?

Possibly @HunkyDory69

There's one thing that is certain, September is not going to be dull!

Hoooo · 14/08/2019 22:52

Hmmm.

Labour has been doing some polling.

And collectively shitting its pants.

Jason118 · 14/08/2019 22:53

If Corbyn was a true statesman, he would have made the same approach but with 'someone' as temporary PM. If it's only temporary then the MPs could draw lots.

Violetparis · 14/08/2019 22:53

We're heading for no deal with all the other parties blaming each other for letting it happen.

Hoooo · 14/08/2019 22:54

Jo Swinson is a twat.

Hoooo · 14/08/2019 22:55

Good idea Jason!

As we've said on this thread for at least the last year, it's going to be no deal by "accident"

LouiseCollins28 · 14/08/2019 22:56

Don’t think that’s going to fly from Corbyn for many reasons. The Green’s response makes less sense than the Lib Dem’s which is saying something!

People still putting party before country. Try again folks.

woman19 · 14/08/2019 23:06

It looks like it's being seriously considered.

But others were more amenable with the SNP and Plaid Cymru responding to say they would be willing to enter talks

Caroline Lucas, the Green MP, agreed with Plaid Cymru that the offer of talks was welcome but she argued “holding a general election before a people’s vote is the wrong way around

Ian Blackford, the SNP leader in Westminster, who had previously asked Corbyn to join talks, said: “I am pleased to receive his letter today confirming that Labour will now work with the SNP and others collaboratively to stop the UK government

The others approached for talks were Dominic Grieve, Caroline Spelman, Oliver Letwin and former Conservative Nick Boles. Grieve said he would be “considering it with colleagues

Oakenbeach · 14/08/2019 23:17

Jo Swinson is a twat.

Why, out of interest?
