Westminstenders: Brace Yourself It's Gonna BeBoris

It seems inconceivable that Hunt can beat Johnson. And whilst we are all considering the horrors that Prime Johnson can bring...

Let's not forget Brexit, whats Brexit?

Already there is talk that Boris has gone soft on 31st Oct as an absolute. But he's also promised the earth to the ERG.

So what suits Boris best?

What does his ego demand?

What does Boris want his legacy to be?

Our fate rests on Boris's whims and personal desires.

And if you are Scottish, Muslim or otherwise not rich, white and male you might have reason to be concerned.

A put up job so that regretfully he has to withdraw?

Bearbehind called it at 16:45 this evening. We really are ahead of the curve here.

On the one hand, it seems very convenient. On the other hand - he is a thoroughly unpleasant individual who I can well believe has very nasty domestic arguments.

BertrandRussell · 21/06/2019 20:11

So who is it wants Hunt as PM and why?

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 20:13

DM comments are mostly that it's a Remainer plot, fake news
Someone thought it was JC's fault

Bearbehind · 21/06/2019 20:15

BUT she'd have been fine as a PM with only the usual issues to handle

That is a totally pointless comment though because she took on the job knowing she needed to deliver Brexit.

She was never going to have ‘just the usual’ issues to deal with..

And her arrogance and inflexibility have made things so much worse.

gutrotweins · 21/06/2019 20:17

One of the Tory Members of Maidstone interviewed on the 6 o'clock news says she is going to vote for Boris because of his 'razzmatazz'. Some profound political thinking going on there. Grin

Bearbehind · 21/06/2019 20:17

Bearbehind called it at 16:45 this evening. We really are ahead of the curve here.

Just call me Mystic Meg! 😂

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 20:18

BJ has no impulse control;
he was always said to be the only person in the world who could stop himself becoming PM

No need for conspiracy
The Graun broke the story, but then it was far too juicy for other papers not to follow

Peregrina · 21/06/2019 20:20

Ah but are the neighbours Remainers? I think we need to be told!

gutrotweins · 21/06/2019 20:20

I agree, bearbehind
He's in a lose-lose situation. Bad if he doesn't deliver Brexit on the 31st Oct and bad if he delivers Brexit and it all goes tits up.

IrenetheQuaint · 21/06/2019 20:21

The neighbour recorded the altercation so it's clearly not a put-up job. Boris' campaign team must be in despair.

Poor Carrie, and poor Marina.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 20:22

Would the EU actually prefer Hunt - the man who compared them to the Soviet Union -
or Boris - who spent years inventing fake EU stories and compared them to Nazis

They may not give a shit which shit becomes PM

  • but they'll soon be missing May
ContinuityError · 21/06/2019 20:24

Tim Harford @TimHarford has a good article in the FT (you should be able to read it via Twitter) on getting people to explain their understanding of their beliefs:

On a scale of one to seven, how well do you understand how a flush lavatory works?

You may then reflect that you knew a little less than you realised.

Professors Sloman and Fernbach and their colleagues found that — just as with locks and speedometers — people tended to overrate their knowledge at first, and then discover some humility when asked to be more specific.

I’d love to see the contenders for the Conservative party leadership quizzed a little less about their cocaine habits and instead forced to sit down and write a detailed explanation of what a no-deal Brexit actually is. While we wait, perhaps the same exercise could be given to the 160,000 Conservative party members who are about to select the country’s next prime minister.

Profs Sloman and Fernbach found that asking people to explain the workings of the policies they so fervently supported or opposed had a humbling effect. When people realised that they knew less than they had once believed, they quite reasonably wound their necks in as a result. It seems strange to die in a ditch for something we can’t clearly explain, even to ourselves.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 20:25

When he moves onto the next woman .....
she'll be the kind of idiot that always exasperates MN by ignoring all the red flags of his known past

HesterThrale · 21/06/2019 20:31

So in 24 hours we have:
-BJ in a nasty-sounding domestic altercation.
-Mark Field aggressively manhandling a climate activist.
-Brecon MP recalled due to committing a fraud crime.
-an unnamed male Tory MP sending nasty, threatening text messages to Antoinette Sandbach.

Nice these Tory men, aren’t they?

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 20:40

From Johnny Mercer to Matt Hancock, the Boris Johnson cheerleader team is covering itself in infamy

and could it yet be in vain ?

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/21/self-abasement-boris-johnson-shameless-gofers?

is there a less self-respecting role in public life than being the guy who goes on the radio to flounder about some other guy’s inability to wear a condom?
< or inability to avoid having the cops called ? >

This is effectively the situation in which hopelessly out-of-his-depth Plymouth Moor View MP Johnny Mercer found himself on Monday,

repeatedly pressed by Emma Barnettt^ on whether it wasn’t a bit weird that we didn’t know how many children the likely next prime minister would own up to having.
< I don't normally care about private lives, but that goes over the line>

Great chance to shine,
and let’s hope Johnny gets Johnson’s equivalent of a DSO for it.
Number two at defence?

tobee · 21/06/2019 20:42

Is it a BJ set up ???

Iambuffy · 21/06/2019 20:44

Do we really think rabid leavers (most of the Tory membership) will care about BJs "altercation"??

They will lap it up.

Putting the little woman in her place.

Motherfuckers.

tobee · 21/06/2019 20:44

I just think BJ is not going to want the job right now. 🤔

tobee · 21/06/2019 20:46

Totally agree Buffy. So it would be him doing it to take himself out yeah I'm aware that I'm thinking wishfully

Bearbehind · 21/06/2019 20:46

buffy it’s not about what others think of him, it’s about how he can get himself off the hook here.

I’m convinced he won’t be PM, despite the fact he’d win the ballot.

Whisky2014 · 21/06/2019 20:48

Even if this is real, they will spin it as a setup anyway.

Bearbehind · 21/06/2019 20:49

Even if this is real, they will spin it as a setup anyway.

Not if he has fabricated it himself.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 20:49

What will be the next skeleton to fall out of BJ's packed closet ?

Weeks of fun hustings coming up

gutrotweins · 21/06/2019 20:50

lambuffy read some of the comments on the DM website on this story. Sad

hopefulhalf · 21/06/2019 20:50

Which is what I'm worried about. Woke up literally in a cold sweat at 4am today, at the prospect of a Johnson or Hunt PM. Had just about convinced myself that Johnson was more likely to fall foul of a no confidence vote- now it looks like it will be Hunt.
