Listening to Boris Johnson’s speech. It sounds a bit vote for me and stop Corbyn getting in.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 12/06/2019 11:30

Laura K gets the first question

DGRossetti · 12/06/2019 11:33

Tholing Hmm Watching BoJo's "launch event", I am left wondering if Russell T Davies has a time machine: the script/events of "Years and Years" I'd incredibly prescient, eg Viv Rookes justifying her language based on the way that this is the way ordinary people speak Shock Unfortunately, I think many of the other events may come to pass too Sad Hopefully, there is enough resistance to stop it.

ContinuityError · 12/06/2019 11:43

Boris just claiming that if becomes PM then there will be a lot of enthusiasm on the other side of the Channel to negotiate a better deal.

Really?

Or should I say Vraiment?

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 12/06/2019 11:49

Is it just me or is this pretty poor from BJ?

He’s an awful human being but he is actually a good public speaker. He’s waffling appallingly and not even coming close to answering the questions

CrunchyCarrot · 12/06/2019 11:49

The audience are clearly in love with Boris as they laugh uproariously at his jokes. Wonder if they'll do that after Brexit?

Basilpots · 12/06/2019 12:00

According to Twitter you could here Steve in the Background shouting bollocks to Boris. Probably muted on TV unfortunately.

bellinisurge · 12/06/2019 12:00

Leaked memo saying we are not ready for No Deal on 31 October.
I'd laugh if it wasn't so ghastly.

1tisILeClerc · 12/06/2019 12:01

{Boris just claiming that if becomes PM then there will be a lot of enthusiasm on the other side of the Channel to negotiate a better deal.}

Well all those that haven't been insulted or pissed off by Boris or the UK will be lining up*

*It might be a very short queue.

bellinisurge · 12/06/2019 12:01

@Basilpots - heard the protest loud and fairly clear on the BBC app.

DGRossetti · 12/06/2019 12:04

Boris just claiming that if becomes PM then there will be a lot of enthusiasm on the other side of the Channel to negotiate a better deal

Or - shock horror - they could be lying to him ?!

I can imagine some poor sod manning the EUs phones having to deal with a call from team BoJo. What would be the easiest way to get rid of them ? Tell them what they want to hear.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/06/2019 12:14

I am so fucking angry with Boris Johnson. Saying that not only was he racist, but it’s fine to say racist things, and he’ll carry on, plus the cheering from the fuckwits in the room. Twitter is already full of racists now being openly racist. I have mixed race children and they deserve better than a society fronted by this absolute twat.

citroenpresse · 12/06/2019 12:20

BoJo=very dull=very relieved supporters. Labour also probably relieved because Stewart is galaxies ahead in terms of authenticity but Tories are too dense to see that.

borntobequiet · 12/06/2019 12:23

All political reporters are in thrall to politicians because secretly they would like to be politicians.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/06/2019 12:23

Dull?? He said making openly racist comments was fine! That should be a scandal!
(Although I do agree with you, the rest was really dull!)

howabout · 12/06/2019 12:39

Utterly Boris has at least 4 mixed race children ....

PinkieTuscadero · 12/06/2019 12:42

Does he? Didn't know that. But even so it's rather beside the point. Like saying 'oh that bloke can't be a misogynist, he's married to a woman you see'. Having a mixed race child doesn't absolve one of racist acts. They don't act as some magical get out of jail card.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/06/2019 12:48

< plonks old & boring arse next to bellini on the old & boring bench >

My priority: to avoid the chaos of No Deal

howabout · 12/06/2019 12:52

If you don't know that and have never researched the contexts of the accusations of intemperate language then perhaps you should question your assumptions more.

eg Lammy quoting watermelon smiles today. The context was a jibe at Blair exhibiting patronising "white saviour complex". Given Lammy's views on Red Nose Day etc perhaps he actually agrees with Boris. Perhaps more of us should start to question the motivations of identity politics and "charity" given the continued criticism of Oxfam and co and their seeming complete inability to adhere to basic safeguarding norms.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/06/2019 12:52

howabout I've noticed several times that you admire right wing Tories, like Redwood & JRM and even seem happy at the success of Farage and the slimy Boris

Is this because getting Brexit is your first priority, whoever / whatever it takes,
or did you support the political right before the referendum too ?

bellinisurge · 12/06/2019 13:01

@BigChocFrenzy GrinGrin

PinkieTuscadero · 12/06/2019 13:05

If you don't know that and have never researched the contexts of the accusations of intemperate language then perhaps you should question your assumptions more.

Spend less of your time excusing racists.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/06/2019 13:06

Please look at Boris Johnson’s children and tell me if they look mixed race (relevant, because they don’t, and won’t have received anything like the targeted racist bullying that I’m referring to).

Also, what Pinkie said Smile

And howabout raises an important point about the “context” of racist comments. 99% of the time, the context is “racist comments being made by racist people.”

There’s a huge difference between white Boris making a racist comment about, say, Muslim women, and David Lammy quoting a racist comment that is directed at people of his own race.

In fact it’s so different that it would take quite a lot of mental gymnastics to conflate the two.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/06/2019 13:18

I think describing his children (who have an Indian grandparent) as mixed race as a riposte to someone who's genuinely worried about their own mixed race child facing prejudice is a bit of a reach.
