We are full steam ahead with European Parliamentary Elections! Something that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago.

May still remains adament that they will not happen, but the die has been cast.

May is off to beg Macron and Merkel to back an extension but the French are already stating they want assurances we won't screw thing up for everyone else.

May still is pushing for a deal with Corbyn and a Not a compromise.

Still there is no sign of a breakthrough either for an extension nor over a cross party deal. It drags on, but at least no one has mentioned the WA for ten minutes.

We might yet be in Europe for another Eurovision. Psychologically this feels important.

The ERG are not happy.

@aqbyrne
Andrew Byrne
All leaders have spoken: 17 pushed for a long extension, 4 prefer a short one but will go with the consensus. Only France sticking to a short extension. 3 are keeping an open mind

Oh, Manu...

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 22:09

Adam Fleming @ adamfleming
UPDATE: SEVENTEEN countries spoke in favour of a long #Brexit extension. 1 for short. 3 open, leaning towards short according to @eucopresident upsum in the summit rooms

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 10/04/2019 22:18

This feels oddly like that night in June 2016 - shattered and going to bed half-assuming I know what the answer will be by the time I wake... sadly, however, I was wrong that night.

lonelyplanetmum · 10/04/2019 22:19

As this embarrassment is costing France more is there anyway he can agree to a longer extension in return for some extra financial assistance in meeting the. OST's we've forced them to incur?

Also why are Arlene ,IDS and Paterson a triumvirate all of a sudden.

I just googled Patterson perhaps he 's going as he speaks fluent French and German. He also has a house in France.Hmm

Also His substantial income from consultancy activities is weird... it's all in NI? Is he a mate of Arlene's?

On top of his MP salary- he's rumoured to have earned:
•£8,333 each month for regular 16 hours work Randox Laboratories, Northern Ireland.
•£2,000 for 4 hrs every other month (24 hrs a year) is £12,000 pa from Lynn's Country Foods Ltd, a Northern Ireland based processor and distributor of sausages.
•£4,399.06 from the Northern Ireland Meat Exporters Association Ltd for a single speech.

lonelyplanetmum · 10/04/2019 22:19

Typos sorry. " costs".

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 22:21

woman oft I won't make that! I'll check when I inevitably wake up for the loo at 4.30. I have the bladder of a much older woman.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 22:25

Hahhhahahaaha!

Not sure if that's me or May.

Mrs May is nothing if not dogged!

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 22:28

They haven't even finished all the speeches
(- crikey, are 27 people each going to make a speech ?)

Then there will probably be hours of discussion to reach a consensus

Issue is:
an extension must be approved unanimously
So if they are deadlocked, then the only extension they can approve - rather than have No Deal on Friday ! - would be a short one

Iambuffy · 10/04/2019 22:28

I'll probably be awake too.
My brexit anxiety dreams have gotten more apocalyptic....last night remainers were being sacrificed into a live volcano Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/04/2019 22:29

I'm off to sleep. I hope.

Littlespaces · 10/04/2019 22:30

Feels about right Iambuffy Grin

My Brexit dream was that all Remain voters had to live beneath the floor boards like Borrowers.

Peregrina · 10/04/2019 22:31

Is May going to stay up for the decision, do you think? Or will she go to bed to be woken at 7 am and be told, 'This is what we have decided, take it or leave it?'

I do hope the EU elections go ahead, and that we kick out Farage and Co, and have some pro-Europe MEPs, so that they at least can see that the will of the people is not to Leave.

magimedi · 10/04/2019 22:31

Just to go to bed with a (bit of) a laugh:

What is the difference between brussell sprouts & bogeys?

You can't get children to eat brussell sprouts..............

And from the Guardian:

Basil Fawlty & Brexit.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/09/brexit-basil-fawlty-towers-sitcom

Honestly, I've seen it all now, Brexit, Basil, sprouts & nits..........

Flowers to you all, especially redtoothbrush for keeping me (relatively) sane through all of this.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 22:32

"I'll stay on for a year"
may be her strategy to get her 30 June extension, rather than a long one

The EU may cave in at the thought of another year of May

Or maybe she secretly would like endless extensions, because she now realises any Brexit would be shit, but doesn't dare say so Hmm
