Westminstenders: The gall of the french

We are full steam ahead with European Parliamentary Elections! Something that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago.

May still remains adament that they will not happen, but the die has been cast.

May is off to beg Macron and Merkel to back an extension but the French are already stating they want assurances we won't screw thing up for everyone else.

May still is pushing for a deal with Corbyn and a Not a compromise.

Still there is no sign of a breakthrough either for an extension nor over a cross party deal. It drags on, but at least no one has mentioned the WA for ten minutes.

We might yet be in Europe for another Eurovision. Psychologically this feels important.

The ERG are not happy.

My vice (especially when I'm properly on the MN HFLC Way of Eating stress has meant I've been off the wagon Blush) is brussels microwaved in butter: whole, enough for a 1-4 portions, into a bowl, slab of butter, plate on top, microwave for 2 minutes, shoogle

PestyMachtubernahme · 10/04/2019 20:41

I was on the first thread, with a username I had forgotten I had.

I potted on my brussels today. Agree with Red they go remarkably well in a curry Hmm

havingtochangeusernameagain · 10/04/2019 20:42

The positivity and hope on this thread is making me sick with nerves. Please can we return to our normal state of appalled dread? I have a horrible feeling we're going to jinx it otherwise

Well if we get a year's extension we could be here again this time next year in March, deciding whether we need our new stockpiles.

bookbook · 10/04/2019 20:43

Another long time lurker
Have read these threads from the first , posted only a couple of times, but check every day , to try to keep up with all the shenanigans .

havingtochangeusernameagain · 10/04/2019 20:43

I'm fed up with the politicians who can't grasp when no means no - ie withdrawal agreement is what it is, take it or leave it, or don't leave at all.

Arlene I am looking at you. Grow up.

snailhunter · 10/04/2019 20:44

I have been following these threads from the beginning but this is my first post!

I love it here: you are all my lovely imaginary Brexit mates. Well, you are real, but you know what I mean.

borntobequiet · 10/04/2019 20:47

I’m saving the tinned sprouts for Xmas. Well you never know.

borntobequiet · 10/04/2019 20:48

Hello Snail

CordeliaEarhart · 10/04/2019 20:50

sos, when I was little we still had a nit nurse that came in to school and similar letters to you gdc. Now they occasionally send letters warning nits are around but they can't exclude children from school for that. For kids like DSis2's friend I'm glad. She had enough problems, but at least she got a decent education and last I heard she went to uni to study law. A bloody pain in the neck for parents who have to continually deal with them though.

A 6 month extension would wouldn't be long enough for the tories to do another confidence vote and replace TM with an extreme Brexiteer, which is a plus. Don't think it's long enough for a PV though.

It's a sign of the crappiness of Brexit that I'll be pleased if we get a 6 month extension - I've been so worried about No Deal that anything reducing the likelihood of that is a reason to celebrate.

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 10/04/2019 20:51

Any idea when we might hear of a decision?

.... I have an online shop which I can only amend up to 11 pm today, and I need to know whether to take out stockpiling items or to add in more!

snailhunter · 10/04/2019 20:52

Hello born! Ooh, this feels weird, like meeting the Queen or something.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 20:54

My Brussels didn't come through. I'm guessing they're a bad batch as it's odd to get none. I've loads of broccoli and cauliflowers though. I'll try again with the Brussels; loads of time yet.

And, in case you hadn't guessed, we love Brussels in this house!

I'm hoping it is a long extension for everyone's sake. And TM may not have a choice about a PV if that's what Parliament vote for after the talks with Labour break down. She's told them she'll abide by the votes, so she should never say never!

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 20:54

Any idea when we might hear of a decision?

My advice would be don't stay up, to most people. I think you might cut it find to that 11pm deadline though.

WhatWouldScoobyDoo I have the exact same problem. Come on EUCO.

Maybe they're watching the football before deciding.

HazardGhost · 10/04/2019 20:54

Awww snail that's lovely

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 20:55

I think the last one was close to midnight Brussels time.

"May 'clear' she wants short delay"

She's always "clear". Clear as mud.

They've already said no once to an exit date of 30th June FGS. What part of "No," doesn't she get?

Do you think once she's left the room for them to discuss her request, they all collectively bang their heads on the table?

borntobequiet · 10/04/2019 20:57

The Queen is Red! Long live etc.

Iambuffy · 10/04/2019 20:58

Yep...I was there way back when...nearly 3 years and you're still not rid of me Grin

OMGithurts · 10/04/2019 20:59

I bet they decided hours ago but are making Treeza sweat as they sip espressos and eat petits fours.

Sprouts aren't a veg; they're a punishment

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 10/04/2019 21:00

cordelia I remember the terror of waiting in line to see the nit nurse. I never had nits but they used to name and shame those who did Angry

My DD has had nits recently, she has very long very thick curly hair so it was grim. I used the recommended chemical shampoo (possibly Hedrin?) and it definitely killed them ... I saw the dead ones... but I repeated it weekly for a month to be absolutely sure to get all of them & the eggs. Now we comb through once a week with Nitty Gritty just to check and been fine for ages thankfully.

RodeoQueen · 10/04/2019 21:01

Sprouts and cauliflower are dismal when boiled but they really come alive when they're roast.

PickleSarnie · 10/04/2019 21:02

£9.90 could buy you 6 tins of "France's favourite vegetable" Although I somehow doubt that's true. My MIL is French and she does love a tinned vegetable so perhaps it is.

My Brexit stockpiling definitely hasn't involved tinned sprouts. I have been mainly focussing on the two main food groups of wine and coffee. If this country is going to hell in a handcart, I'm doing it drunk and highly caffeinated.
