Westminstenders: The gall of the french

We are full steam ahead with European Parliamentary Elections! Something that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago.

May still remains adament that they will not happen, but the die has been cast.

May is off to beg Macron and Merkel to back an extension but the French are already stating they want assurances we won't screw thing up for everyone else.

May still is pushing for a deal with Corbyn and a Not a compromise.

Still there is no sign of a breakthrough either for an extension nor over a cross party deal. It drags on, but at least no one has mentioned the WA for ten minutes.

We might yet be in Europe for another Eurovision. Psychologically this feels important.

The ERG are not happy.

We like sprouts fried with bacon and soy sauce. Well, I do. The rest of the family is quietly appalled.

HesterThrale · 10/04/2019 20:06

I was on the first thread too! Have followed all the way and learnt so much from the people on here.

And I think this is it!

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 10/04/2019 20:07

I've been here since early on, god knows how many name changes though. I like a name change though I've stuck with this for quite a while now.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 20:08

However!!!

Paul Brand @paulbranditv
LATEST: PM’s pitch to EU 27 and their cross-examination just concluded. Lasted around an hour. EU leaders now have dinner without her, while she waits to see what she’ll be served.

Alberto Nardelli @albertonardelli
EUCO: I’m told PM May’s intervention is so far more solid than usual, though not many specifics. Sense is that May is open to a longer extension, as long as it can be terminated early, source says. Leaders have many questions.

And just now

Paul Brand @paulbranditv
UPDATE: Whispers of PM presser being moved forward a little. Has it all gone to plan? Believe it when I see it, knowing these summits.

Also, we have some trying to thwart all this

Paul Brand @paulbranditv
NEW: Arlene Foster, Iain Duncan Smith and Owen Paterson meeting Michel Barnier tomorrow 🤔

No prizes for guessing the topic... concerns over Withdrawal Agreement and the backstop. Reiterating that they cannot support it.

Yep that's the first thread!!!

red I’ve been here a while now but this is a recent name change. I’ve learnt so much from lurking! Thank you!

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 20:11

Jennifer Rankin @jennifermerode
Theresa May getting much better reviews than last time.

Expected by some she will get a long extension that is automatically shortened if the UK ratifies the deal.

But no one believes UK will ratify by 30 June.

So on for a long extension.

Just reading the first couple of posts on that thread, and my two thoughts are

  • what a pity Theresa stood up like a reliable head girl type and said 'I'll do it!' I.e. the 'hard shit' Cameron didn't want
  • I bet that when Sam Cam initially looked relieved, she didn't envision a future where her husband was perpetually hanging around the place in his expensive fecking shed, not finishing his fecking memoirs
RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 20:12

Dave Keating @ davekeating
EU sources briefing that May's performance tonight was much better than the disaster at the #EUCO three weeks ago. They are marginally more reassured. But only marginally.

RodeoQueen · 10/04/2019 20:13

I see the Telegraph is touting Francois as a potential Tory leader.

And that completes the Telegraph's Brexit nervous breakdown.

Butterymuffin · 10/04/2019 20:16

EU leaders now have dinner without her

Is May's driver on the way to some Brussels fast food joint? Mighty Bucket for one?

dontcallmelen · 10/04/2019 20:17

😂😂😂 Telegraph breakdown, we can live in hope.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 20:17

Alberto Nardelli @albertonardelli
Per memo - "The 27 member states will also reserve the right to meet informally at all levels without the UK..."
t.co/nmWFwGdHnw - suggests focus of discussion is on seeing what can be done in terms of safeguards first

I've been lurking through several name changes in the last couple of years.
It is a veritable font of information.

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 10/04/2019 20:21

Been here since the beginning also. Really odd to read that first thread through again!

Littlespaces · 10/04/2019 20:25

I see the Telegraph is touting Francois as a potential Tory leader.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

GaspodeWonderCat · 10/04/2019 20:26

I found Westminstenders Sept 2016 (ish) and have been following ever since - with rare posts. Usually think of something to add and the thread is 5 pages further on (or more). Always ahead of MSM and FACTS are referenced. My goto source and explainer of wtf is going on. With asides about Wessex, Scottish independence, nits, allotments, recipes, cats etc etc etc ... DGR 'jokes' ...

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 20:26

Pippa Crerar@pippacrerar
🇪🇺 Update 🇪🇺 Suggestion here is that May’s hour in front of EU leaders went better than last time. But that the 27 are still split on how long the extension should be. Some want very short (ie well before EU elections) others want very long (ie end of year).

I like sprouts shredded in a chilli stir fry.

@JohnJCrace
Longing to see how Toby Young, James Delingpole and others stick up for Roger Scruton this time

RodeoQueen · 10/04/2019 20:29

I like my sprouts fried with pancetta and a drizzle of maple syrup.

lonelyplanetmum · 10/04/2019 20:30

Arlene Foster, Iain Duncan Smith and Owen Paterson meeting Michel Barnier tomorrow

IDS?? It's just so embarrassing. All those multilingual educated eloquent politicians and we send IDS.

tobee · 10/04/2019 20:31

Head lice? Dd had/has very very thick curly hair and lice were a nightmare. Until we found delacet which was a natural type of remedy (that smelt like vinegar). We applied to hair, shower cap to keep it damp overnight. Shampoo as normal. Ds had eczema and was fine for him. Applied again when eggs had hatched but not old enough to lay their own eggs.

If Boris were to become pm, and goes no deal, he could go down as the worst ever pm, beating Cameron. I think he doesn't really want no deal. Or even Brexit. And it's all just trash talk. He's enough of an arse.

tobee · 10/04/2019 20:32

Also, what I believe to be a French recipe, sprout purée. It's the dogs.

woman19 · 10/04/2019 20:34

Some want very short (ie well before EU elections
But a crash out exit without a WA would play badly in EU elections?
Agree lonely It's all so embarrassing.
