Westminstenders: The gall of the french

We are full steam ahead with European Parliamentary Elections! Something that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago.

May still remains adament that they will not happen, but the die has been cast.

May is off to beg Macron and Merkel to back an extension but the French are already stating they want assurances we won't screw thing up for everyone else.

May still is pushing for a deal with Corbyn and a Not a compromise.

Still there is no sign of a breakthrough either for an extension nor over a cross party deal. It drags on, but at least no one has mentioned the WA for ten minutes.

We might yet be in Europe for another Eurovision. Psychologically this feels important.

The ERG are not happy.

Hmm. I am considering cancelling my Stockpile Shop which is to be delivered on Thursday evening. Which included food and meds for the PILs, even if they are fervent Leavers.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/04/2019 16:58

What's the deadline for cancelling? I'd at least wait until we hear from the EU27 tomorrow if you can wait that long.

Here's what's being debated (attached).

Theresa May seems to be getting her own back by keeping smart beuniformed geezers with shiny helmets waiting at Elysee Palace.

tobee · 09/04/2019 17:06

Macron not foolish enough to be stoodging about waiting for bet on the threshold

BestIsWest · 09/04/2019 17:07

Revoke ffs.

tobee · 09/04/2019 17:07

Her not bet. Obvs

Bad traffic on the peripherique?

OMGithurts · 09/04/2019 17:14

I can cancel up until 11pm tomorrow. I'll see what happens. I have the Easter eggs in that order too.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/04/2019 17:18

We should know by 11pm. At least it's not like the Morrison's deadline of mid-afternoon, as that would be cutting it fine!

I am holding off on booking a May half term holiday in Holland. I don't even need a long extension - just one to the beginning of June!

BollocksToBrexit · 09/04/2019 17:42

So Parliament has approved May seeking an extension to 30 June. Despite the fact that she's already been told no to that date. Do any of them fucking listen to what they're being told? I beginning to hope the EU just kick our idiotic arses out with immediate effect.

wherearemychickens · 09/04/2019 17:44

To be fair, she hadn't prepared for EU elections when that date was rejected earlier? I don't know if that will make a difference - Peston was talking about an extension to late June/July being possible earlier today.

Pilcrow · 09/04/2019 17:45

You can barely give those unicorns away now. Excellent Brexit metaphor spotted in a local shop today.

MockerstheFeManist · 09/04/2019 17:55

Do any of them f*ing listen to what they're being told?

No.

Because like the drowning Egyptian, they are in de-Nile.

Sostenueto · 09/04/2019 17:56

My mutt has been so good today as I had to leave her to spend time with my bestie. Just heard on news Macron will say OK to short extension apparently. So maybe a bit of hope that EU will at least grant extension but I have a feeling its going to be a short one. We really cannot keep going on like this. Having to keep degrading ourselves going backwards and forwards to EU begging for extensions. I wish May would just go I don't think she realises just how much she is destroying our country.Sad

DivisionBelles · 09/04/2019 17:58

There's a shock, my wannabe ERG groupie MP is on that list. No surprise that he's ignoring all the emails I've sent him this month. He was on the local news the other day saying he'd only had one or two people email him in support of no Brexit. He's either deluded or a liar.

Littlespaces · 09/04/2019 17:59

More Tom Peck Retweeted Thomas Colson
Current scenes in Westminster:

1. A panel of Tory MPs wonder how to appeal to under 35s

2. Mark Francois MP shouts Tennyson poems to an audience exclusively of pensioners, all of whom have robbed young people of their futures.

I don’t write this stuff, I just type it out.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/04/2019 18:01

My useless MP didn't vote either way. I've no idea what logic is behind that lot really.

I've still not heard back from him after my email a few weeks' ago, so I'm not entirely sure of his motivation re Brexit. It would be nice if he'd email back to enlighten me.

@FlowerPlower, did your dad hear back yet?

Meet the Scottish mayor in north Germany being pushed out due to Brexit

To be fair my British friend who lives in Germany thought about this even before the referendum and applied for her German citizenship even before the vote was cast. She is a teacher and wanted to maintain her status as a civil servant. She's had her German citizenship for about a year now.

There are legal arguments that we should not be losing our EU citizenship anyway and I think at the very least there is an argument that anyone born between 1 Jan 1973 and any eventual Brexit date as a British citizenship should maintain their EU citizenship (I'm too old sadly but at least my son wouldn't lose his). Jo Maughan is looking at this.
