Westminstenders: The gall of the french

We are full steam ahead with European Parliamentary Elections! Something that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago.

May still remains adament that they will not happen, but the die has been cast.

May is off to beg Macron and Merkel to back an extension but the French are already stating they want assurances we won't screw thing up for everyone else.

May still is pushing for a deal with Corbyn and a Not a compromise.

Still there is no sign of a breakthrough either for an extension nor over a cross party deal. It drags on, but at least no one has mentioned the WA for ten minutes.

We might yet be in Europe for another Eurovision. Psychologically this feels important.

The ERG are not happy.

PMK.

Thanks, Red.

We had a tour of Parliament today. Most strange to be standing in the chamber, and then seeing it on TV a few hours later.

Cat seat king Wink

Looking forward to getting rid of the single (in every sense apparently Wink and unsurprisingly Grin) odious and execrable UKIP Scottish elected representative at the forthcoming EU Parliament elections Smile

Looking forward to voting out Farage, Nuttall and Hannan... for some decent LibDems, Greens and Remain Labour. Remain Tories would be OK if any would be allowed to stand.

So, no deal is now very unlikely? I’m tempted to break into my chocolate stash to celebrate!

BentCoppersOnly · 08/04/2019 22:22

PMK as it won’t let me add this to watches threads

BigChocFrenzy · 08/04/2019 22:24

btw, your OP expressed gratitude that noone had mentioned the WA lately
... but that's just on the UK side Grin

the EU keep asking about it - I posted about NL PM Mark Rutte today saying re the EUCO extension discussions:

"Crucial to know when and on what basis UK will ratify the Withdrawal Agreement. "

The Prime Minister of Great Britain begging the French and the Germans - my leave-voting FIL is throwing a fit. I can't resist telling him "but you won, this is what you voted for" Grin

Thanks red

A recent ComRes poll for the European elections put Labour on 30%, the Conservatives on 22%, Mr Farage's new Brexit Party on 12%, UKIP and the new independent group Change UK on 10% and the Lib Dems on 9%

This was on the last thread near the end:

PM is considering giving MPs free vote on whether to hold 2nd referendum in bid to break Brexit deadlock with Labour

PM discussed offer with Cabinet ministers in No 10 today

Julian Smith said to be 'confident' Govt has nos to defeat it

I'm so confused. If she doesn't want a P.V and actively wants to stop it then that is where we are and we all have to suck it up. BUT ... she's thinking of giving them a vote on whether or not to give us a vote to break the deadlock. But she wants them to vote no. Which ... won't break the deadlock? If all the labour mps vote yes to a vote and all the tories vote no and they win ... there's still no reason why labour would help her get her W.A passed.
She does understand that it is the granting the people a vote that will break the deadlock and not simply just the talking about the possibility of it and then not doing anything? right?
Am I missing something? This is just baffling. It seems to me that there is no point even suggesting it as a possibility to move forward unless the intention is to - you know - grant the vote and move forward.

Seems so quiet out there today, calm before the storm?
