If anyone says they know what will happen this week....

... They don't.

She won't support it; she said so this afternoon. Something to do with not being the constitutional precedent she wants to set, if I heard correctly over the din in the house!

Sostenueto · 25/03/2019 18:45

BestIsWest · 25/03/2019 18:46

Pmk

dontcallmelen · 25/03/2019 18:47

Hester yes thank you, just wanted to check how the petition was going in my area

DGRossetti · 25/03/2019 18:48

Fluffy - it was already Conservative Party policy to hold a referendum and Cameron had guaranteed that if he won the next election, he'd hold the referendum to shut up the anti EU faction . As I said to my friend, he was assuming relying on the LibDems to continue in coalition with him so that he would be able to use them as the excuse not to hold the referendum.

In hindsight, it's a shame the LibDems didn't agree to a referendum 2010-2015 and have some control over the framing ...

BercowsSilkTie · 25/03/2019 18:48

*Can someone please explain the HoL plan for revoke?
*
I've no idea what the fuck us going on 😩

wheresmymojo · 25/03/2019 18:49

I do wish Keir was the Labour leader....

As much as Bercow rocks he's a little on the mature side for me. But Keir I could definitely develop a crush on...

NoWordForFluffy · 25/03/2019 18:50

Even if the HoL vote to revoke, I believe that the HoC still has to agree to it (happy to be corrected). There may be more appetite for this when the cliff edge looms closer.

lonelyplanetmum · 25/03/2019 18:54

This is what TM said this afternoon according to the state broadcaster...

"The votes could lead to an outcome that is un-negotiable with the EU," she told MPs.
"No government could give a blank cheque to commit to an outcome without knowing what it is."

Yet that is exactly what the government turned the advisory referendum into. Committing to an outcome without knowing what it is!

Horehound · 25/03/2019 18:54

I get the feeling the mps want no deal but don't want to be responsible for It!

Sostenueto · 25/03/2019 18:55

4,724 votes in my constituency on petition. And they voted leave but narrowly.

Horehound · 25/03/2019 18:55

So basically the mps get their indicative votes, TM then decides if she wants to proceed with any of them, if so, thats good if not its either her shitty deal or no deal. That right?

BestIsWest · 25/03/2019 18:55

I came upon this John Masefield poem in Melanie Reid’s wonderful book The World I Fell Out Of and it has made me feel a little better.

I had seen flowers come in stony places
And kind things done by men with ugly faces,
And the gold cup won by the worst horse at the races,
So I trust, too.

Unless it’s Boris of course.

tobee · 25/03/2019 18:56

Wiki tells me, wheresmy that they are in fact, the same age, with Keir being a few months older same age as dh. But then you did say "mature looking"

PostNotInHaste · 25/03/2019 18:56

I’ve been travelliing along the roads of Wessex this afternoon (practising) so couldn’t watch. What has Corbyn to say about this today (apologies if I missed it.

BigChocFrenzy · 25/03/2019 18:56

Then only let MPs vote on options the EU would accept - there are enough of them to choose from

It's a Tory party that's the problem again

BestIsWest · 25/03/2019 18:57

Or the government.

tobee · 25/03/2019 18:57

*mature side

BercowsSilkTie · 25/03/2019 18:58

Hold on. Close eyes. Breathe.

I can't bear to watch tonight. I'll rely on this thread to keep me up to date. I have a poorly boy so am going to snuggle him into my bed and keep an eye on him, read my book and try to relax a little. I keep catching myself held tense with my shoulders up near my ears and have to force myself to relax.
Might download the headspace app.

wheresmymojo · 25/03/2019 18:58

Keir and Bercow are the same age Shock

I'd assumed Keir was in his 40's and Bercow was in his 50's (and toward the mid to latter end).

Sostenueto · 25/03/2019 18:58

I only love Berkows brains and verbal eloquence wheresmymoyo I can't be bothered in dealing with any other part of his body, takes too much energyGrin
