Just wrote an intro and wiped it. So this is as quick as I can sum up.

EU response is extension to 22nd May if May passes her deal by 29th March

Or an unconditional extension to 12 April which could be extended with a plan and understanding to take part in EU elections.

This isn't what may wanted. It gives her less time and leverage

It opens up the possibility of her being ousted as PM in the next couple of days. Graham Brady asked her to quit on Monday. Remain Cabinet ministers are threatening to quit if May whips a vote to support no deal.

The talk is May has indeed flipped to supporting no deal with many think she's pretty much gone full on Colonel Kurtz.

The EU are in effect supporting parliamentary sovereignty and are being incredibly reasonable.

May now has to decide whether to accept.

The whole situation looks explosive and likely that one half of the cabinet or the other are on the brink of walking. And May's power is so shattered.

However she remains the gatekeeper and as it stands if she's hell bent on no deal, it will be extremely difficult for Parliament to prevent that.

Just catching up.
Good for the EU.

Wish I could be in London tomorrow, but life won't let me get over from rural Germany.

Signed, though. I was 800,000 something.

blibblibs · 22/03/2019 06:10

I went to bed at 11 thinking nothing much would happen until morning, what do I know!
Actually had a little cry this morning, thankful that the EU are at least trying to save us from ourselves. Off to work now to listen to how our sovereignty has been taken from us again and we should just get on with it! I work in the NHS ffs Angry

PostNotInHaste · 22/03/2019 06:22

Well another day, another can of worms. Thanks for the thread RTB.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 22/03/2019 06:35

Woke up to the extension/not really extension news. Feels like we're being blackmailed into choosing to eat horse shit or dog shit.

ComputerSaysMo · 22/03/2019 06:39

Saw this on Twitter, apparently from someone in gov IT for the petitions site:

11pm and there's still 100k people supporting and watching an online petition.

Been a bumpy day. And a disappointing day. But hey, we doubled the (already impressive) capacity of a service, under immense pressure, in a handful of hours. So there's that.

Proud of the team.

100k people JUST WATCHING the petition at 11pm last night. No wonder it’s been crashing and people have been waiting for confirmation emails. They must have been flat out all day.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 06:40

Just introduced my 11 year old dd to "Reasons to Be Cheerful. Part III" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. It's all I have at the moment.

Sostenueto · 22/03/2019 06:40

I wake up every morning with trepidation as to what TM has been up to. Further humiliation for the country every time she flits off to Brussels. I have no idea how the EU can continue to try and help her, listen to her without telling her to just fuck off and sort your own mess out. Our country is indeed the laughing stock of the world bought about by a PM with massive aspiration coupled with mega inability. I don't think our country is ever going to recover from this utter shame. I don't think I will ever go abroad in fear of being ridiculed for being British!

Sostenueto · 22/03/2019 06:44

As the EU has now signed those bits of meaningless papers that TM got the last time she went off to Strasbourg will that be enough for Berkow to say its a substantial change to WA and thus allow WA to be presented? If not what will happen next? Dies anyone know please?

OMGithurts · 22/03/2019 06:45

Good morning. I wonder what will happen today.

LonelyTiredandLow · 22/03/2019 06:45

One step forward two steps back

GroovieGazelloo · 22/03/2019 06:47

With the petition, keep going everyone. It is the MP's we want to influence. May is a lost cause.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 06:48

@LonelyTiredandLow I have a "work" playlist to help me through a difficult day. Ian Dury features heavily. It was lovely watching her eyes open with delight at "Reasons ...". I can't wait to play other gems to her.

OublietteBravo · 22/03/2019 06:50

Morning. PMK

MajesticWhine · 22/03/2019 06:53

The petition is working fine - I just signed

SparklySneakers · 22/03/2019 07:06

Morning. I went to sheep as had had enough and missed her sore head.

What's the Strasbourg agreement?

I don't see how her deal will be passed...

SparklySneakers · 22/03/2019 07:07

Sleep not sheep!

IrenetheQuaint · 22/03/2019 07:09

Please God let Parliament show some initiative now...

LonelyTiredandLow · 22/03/2019 07:13

So am I reading the news correctly - 29th is now off for No Deal (unless May specifically chooses it?) and if WA isn't approved our cliff is now 12th April or extended to 22nd May (if WA is passed)
BBC article on EU talks from last night.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/03/2019 07:13

Hilarious sketch from the Guardian describing Theresa May inadvertently uniting everyone.

GroovieGazelloo · 22/03/2019 07:14

Thanks for the new thread Red.
"Full on Colonel Kurtz." Excellent description !

And thanks to everyone else who's been keeping updating us here.

I am on my way to an obligatory training course where I'll be with all my French colleagues over this next week . It feels strange to be going South whilst I know so many of you are making your way or planning to go to London right now. From the bottom of my heart I thank you who are marching on Saturday. XXXXX

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 07:15

@LonelyTiredandLow ,we have to change the statute to do anything other than leave on March 29. Until we do that - we have a week- leaving on March 29 is still in.
