Westminstenders: Flextension

Just wrote an intro and wiped it. So this is as quick as I can sum up.

EU response is extension to 22nd May if May passes her deal by 29th March

Or an unconditional extension to 12 April which could be extended with a plan and understanding to take part in EU elections.

This isn't what may wanted. It gives her less time and leverage

It opens up the possibility of her being ousted as PM in the next couple of days. Graham Brady asked her to quit on Monday. Remain Cabinet ministers are threatening to quit if May whips a vote to support no deal.

The talk is May has indeed flipped to supporting no deal with many think she's pretty much gone full on Colonel Kurtz.

The EU are in effect supporting parliamentary sovereignty and are being incredibly reasonable.

May now has to decide whether to accept.

The whole situation looks explosive and likely that one half of the cabinet or the other are on the brink of walking. And May's power is so shattered.

However she remains the gatekeeper and as it stands if she's hell bent on no deal, it will be extremely difficult for Parliament to prevent that.

Laura K bang on suggesting May apologises to MPs for last night. She wont.

Monst3ra · 21/03/2019 23:15

Of course she won't apologise.

cherin · 21/03/2019 23:15

She’s a pieces of ssssssshhhhh

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 23:15

Oh bummer, I came to bed as thought all over for the evening...great that she's accepting though

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 23:15

Of course she won't apologise

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:15

Crazy useless woman.

Revoke being put to her. She won't answer properly.

CordeliaEarhart · 21/03/2019 23:16

She has pretty much ruled out revoke. I really want someone to ask about the petition.

WaterQuarter · 21/03/2019 23:16

God, I'm so sick of hearing the Maybot's stock phrases on repeat ad nauseum.

Icantreachthepretzels · 21/03/2019 23:17

May rejects petition to revoke article 50 despite 2m signatures

I'm afraid the littlest dictator needs to remember that regardless of her wishes - any petition over 100 000 signatures gets debated in parliament. Democracy's a pig that way - no wonder she's out to crush it.
All the remain leaning mps should go and pass the motion.

We're planning to go on Sat but with 2 DSs who are easily bored - can anyone advise on a good place to join and duck out of the march?

They always set out late so waiting to start can take hours - and the bigger it is the longer the wait. Maybe wait at Trafalgar square and join the head of the march as it comes down towards Westminster. You might even get a place on the green.
Then you could maybe go across a bridge when you decided it was time to go and get a tube from the other bank.

prettybird · 21/03/2019 23:17

She is backtracking on the tenor of her speech last night, trying to blame parliament. She was just "expressing frustration" Hmm You. Are. Supposed. To. Be. The. PM. You. Are. Supposed. To. Manage. Your. Frustration. And. Not. Use. Your. Podium. To. Spread. It. To. The. Population. Angry

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:17

It means REVOKE you nutter.

MillyCoddler · 21/03/2019 23:17

TM looks like a woman on the edge.

TheMostBoringPersonEver · 21/03/2019 23:18

Sorry to be dim, but so I have it straight in my head:

This give us a way around Erskine MAy, therefore allowing us to go to MV3 OR they vote to overturn EM and hold MV3

Then:
It passes _> orderly exit May 22
It fails _> we have a two week extension to April 11
We decide not to do EU elex _> crash out on the 12th
We decide to do EU elex _> long extension

OR if may doesnt accept the extension then we crash out Friday?

?? yes? I need a flow chart haha!

Also will MAy be speaking on sky?

dimsum321 · 21/03/2019 23:18

@Icantreachthepretzels thank you. I'm going to come, I just can't sit at home and do nothing.

cherin · 21/03/2019 23:18

Blablabla she’s a broken record

cherin · 21/03/2019 23:19

I’m surprised she’s taking interviews

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2019 23:19

If she has accepted the extension, she needs to bring to the HoC on Monday the Statutory Instrument to change the Brexit date

Monday is the latest possible date for the change to apply

  • otherwise we would still exit on 29 March !

It will be interesting whether she puts 12 April or 22 May for the new date

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:19

Petition mention!

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:20

And she completely ignored the question from Andy from Press Association.

CordeliaEarhart · 21/03/2019 23:20

She dodged that one.

WaterQuarter · 21/03/2019 23:21

I like that German guy asking if she places any blame on herself as well as blaming the MPs. Not that she'll address it.

dimsum321 · 21/03/2019 23:21

She's a psychopath

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:22

Are you at all to blame, PM?

May completely fails to answer the question.

She also picked ALL the questioners.

cherin · 21/03/2019 23:22

A perfect fascist

WaterQuarter · 21/03/2019 23:23

Utterly useless woman
