Westminstenders: Flextension

RedToothBrush · 21/03/2019 22:37

Just wrote an intro and wiped it. So this is as quick as I can sum up.

EU response is extension to 22nd May if May passes her deal by 29th March

Or an unconditional extension to 12 April which could be extended with a plan and understanding to take part in EU elections.

This isn't what may wanted. It gives her less time and leverage

It opens up the possibility of her being ousted as PM in the next couple of days. Graham Brady asked her to quit on Monday. Remain Cabinet ministers are threatening to quit if May whips a vote to support no deal.

The talk is May has indeed flipped to supporting no deal with many think she's pretty much gone full on Colonel Kurtz.

The EU are in effect supporting parliamentary sovereignty and are being incredibly reasonable.

May now has to decide whether to accept.

The whole situation looks explosive and likely that one half of the cabinet or the other are on the brink of walking. And May's power is so shattered.

However she remains the gatekeeper and as it stands if she's hell bent on no deal, it will be extremely difficult for Parliament to prevent that.

Mad, sad and dangerous.

Icantreachthepretzels · 21/03/2019 23:23

I'm going to come, I just can't sit at home and do nothing.

hooray! Cake Wine

cherin · 21/03/2019 23:24

So it’s either her deal or no deal
Unless she’s kicked out how she deserves to be

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:24

I've actually looked at her WA and it's fucking awful. Really really bad.

HepzibahHumbug · 21/03/2019 23:25

May nowhere near tears imo. Usual professional bot bot

horseshit · 21/03/2019 23:25

Did she completely avoid promising to hold MV3 next week or did I miss it?

Peregrina · 21/03/2019 23:26

PMK

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:27

I think a pundit suggested she might postpone again.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2019 23:27

She started by saying “Good morning”

Hopefully she doesn't get confused about dates too, at critical times.

CordeliaEarhart · 21/03/2019 23:27

It is morning there - they are an hour ahead.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2019 23:29

I'm assuming she was being funny
Cos that's not what you say just after midnight

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:31

I think she was making a point of how hard she works.

InterchangeableEmma · 21/03/2019 23:31

HepzibahHumbug It was momentary, after she finished her statement immediately previous to calling the first question. Maybe I'm wrong. Looked like it to me though.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2019 23:39

Parliament MUST make use of the extra 2 weeks the EU have given them

Alberto Nardellii@AlbertoNardelli*

Tusk: until that date [12 April] all options remain on the table

https://www.buzzfeed.com/albertonardelli/eu-leaders-allow-short-delay-brexit

Article 50 can be extended until May 22, but only if MPs approve the deal.
If they don't, the UK has until April 12 to come up with a plan or crash out without a deal.

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 23:43

And the plan is clearly, Revoke.

phpolly · 21/03/2019 23:44

.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2019 23:45

Imo, not the votes for Revoke
They might just pluck up courage for a PV

  • I'd be happy with Remain vs WA. At least the choices are defined as far as possible
Sostenueto · 21/03/2019 23:47

PMK

2,138,983 is the figure now on the petition!
I still haven't got my confirmation email.

cherin · 21/03/2019 23:47

blueeye Diversions in London? The Lego store, Disney store, Apple store, Covent Garden? :-) St martin in the fields (if you can get there!) for music or cake in the crypt. Pollocks toy museum. The British museum. It’s all a hop on the tube!

Sostenueto · 22/03/2019 00:15

Hooray got my email! It had crashed when I first tried to sign it apparently!
Missed TMs speech was asleep! I would have only spent the whole time with two fingers up at her anyway and as you all have put main points of speech on I don't have to listen to Maybot!
Leadsom had a go at Berkow again and got told to sit down by him while he corrected her. She is turning more awful every day!

PM will have a few meetings in morning then head home from Brussels early - no big other summit appearance

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
This has been one crazy evening in Brussels. So what on earth are we left with? Donald Tusk said tonight: "The UK Government will still have a choice of a deal, no deal, a long extension or revoking Article 50" (1/3)

We put all four choices to the PM, and the only one she ruled out was revocation. She also suggested she'd be bound by whatever decision the Commons comes up with a majority for if her deal falls, telling me: “I am very clear we will need to work with house how to proceed" (2/3)

Even a long delay, a softer Brexit or a Customs Union, I asked May? She denied none of them: "What the Council has done is very clearly frame for people the choices that will be available to them”. So where are we now? Right back at the beginning of the week again (3/3)

PMK before going to bed.

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 00:41

Missed May's speech as out picking up DH who is still hugging the toilet.

No it was the alcohol that made him puke, not Theresa.

Nick Robinson @bbcnickrobinson
Last night @theresa_may suggested choice was between her deal & No Deal. Tonight she says it’s between her deal & a long delay. Last night she attacked MPs for failing to make their minds up. Tonight she says she understands that MPs are frustrated. I hope that’s clear.

As I say. Full on Colonel Kurtz.

Hello everyone, woman1017 here Smile
Thanks to red prettybird catfromjapan chevvy tatiana mistigri BCF and all the fine sisters who have kept this thread on the road for 3 years, and spirits and information levels up.
And mums net for giving us the space.

I still wish you were running a magazine IRL red but you have probably been running the most important publication for British/European/All Liberal Democracy Women for the last 3 years: this one. Very good luck for your house move. Flowers

Thankful to you badkitten for all the great info and threads about the march.

The last one was pretty stationary as it was so packed, and Green Park tube station was closed down because so many people were there.
My advice to all the people who are planning to come down for the first time is to wear super comfy shoes and bring snacks. The distance of the march is short, but the number of people will make it long amount of standing still and chatting. Many kids on previous marches, and they are obviously who we are doing this for............

Also, on that route it's easy to duck in and out of the march with kiddies...
