Revoke A50 petition fastest growing of all time....

Extraordinary!

TheMightyToosh · 21/03/2019 12:03

I'm waiting for the email to click to confirm my signing - how long does that take?

Abra1de · 21/03/2019 12:03

After much heart-searching this morning I have signed. I was a remainer.

However, I am still worried that if we stay in we will be regarded with contempt and our views dismissed by other EU members. I am also worried about some Leavers reacting with perhaps understandable fury.

But I have signed.

LondonJax · 21/03/2019 12:05

809,000 now.

Langrish · 21/03/2019 12:06

We’re already regarded with contempt, hardly surprising, least of our worries atm!

Time40 · 21/03/2019 12:08

Managed to sign despite site repeatedly claiming “maintenance”. Smell a big, fat rat

What should a well-built petition be capable of coping with, though? Surely, most petitions don't have to cope with anything like this demand?

Thanks for the alternative petition counter from the Open Data Institute, Laska2. That's useful (and also very interesting - if I read it right, it seems to be saying that based on this petition, if there were another vote now, the result would be Remain.)

AnnaMagnani · 21/03/2019 12:09

We are already regarded with contempt - that ship has long sailed. Even if we leave, we still have to communicate with the EU, do deals with them, work with them. And all after our senior leadership has revealed itself to be a bunch of incompetent fools.

Looking at how Brexit is reported abroad is eye-opening for how others see us now - a mixture of contempt and pity.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 21/03/2019 12:09

814,000 and odd

Iamsodoingthis · 21/03/2019 12:11

Email doesn't take long mightytoosh. Check your junk/spam inbox. Mine went there

Abra1de · 21/03/2019 12:11

I have not received the confirmatory email. Does it take a long time? Have checked junk/spam etc.

MaddieElla · 21/03/2019 12:13

Update here when the petition hits 17 million.

My email took about 15 mins to come through.

KennDodd · 21/03/2019 12:14

@Abra1de
Please come to the march on Saturday, there's going to be a whole section for Leavers who now support Remain. I saw a really good interview with somebody who worked for Vote Leave and now supports Remain I'll try to find it later.

My confirmation email was in my spam folder.

RhubarbTea · 21/03/2019 12:14

Some people are having to wait 30 mins plus for their conformation email so keep checking.

StormTreader · 21/03/2019 12:14

Is anyone else waiting for the "this big number was clearly because of hackers therefore we can junk the whole thing out of hand" announcement?

MillicentMartha · 21/03/2019 12:14

Same here, 15 minutes or so.

Abra1de · 21/03/2019 12:15

Thanks Rhubarb

SoloD · 21/03/2019 12:15

@Abra1de

I really don't think Europeans will hold us in contempt and there will be no legal issues from stopping Brexit. Popularist parties are causing all sorts of problems across Europe. In Italy they are blamed for measles outbreaks as they were anti vaxxers.

At this point we can see the costs and benefits of Brexit. When we took the vote in 2016 we did not have the same information. There is no hard or shame in changing our minds when the information changes. It is actually a strength.

Up on the Guido Fawkes blog already @StormTreader

Of course no actual evidence or citation from a credible source.

KennDodd

I voted remain

MockerstheFeManist · 21/03/2019 12:18

Lead item on BBC website and reported on the Daily Politics now.

This will snowball.

17 million here we come. Wink

EvaTheOptimist · 21/03/2019 12:18

My confirmation email never came through on a hotmail email address, not even in junk, not after hours; so in the end I tried again with my work address and it came through instantly. Have you got a different email address option to try?
