signed the petition to revoke article 50 and yes, I WILL be on the march in London on Saturday for our younger generations in particular. How could we explain to them that we did nothing to stop this from happening?

EcclesThePeacock · 21/03/2019 20:52

Maybe they're having to do some of the processing of emails in large batches during which time the site is inaccessible?

Mistigri · 21/03/2019 20:54

Hard to believe that when I signed it last night it was under 90k. We've done our bit, all four of us have signed and I've shared the shit out of it.

Given the extraordinary traffic I'm quite impressed that the site hasn't fallen over completely.

You can look at the data here, fascinating stuff:

Afineexample · 21/03/2019 21:00

I signed but doubt it will do any good.
Wish I could march, but I'm sick- but will be there in spirit!

Handay · 21/03/2019 21:01

Ooh yes that is interesting. Around 80000 signatures an hour throughout the day.

Just by way of contrast, the petition for no deal, started in December, is running at 375,654.

RabbitseatDogs · 21/03/2019 21:04

It's over 1.5 million!

I'm sceptical of the recent increases - it seems too fast, and the totals on the map for some of the specific areas aren't changing at all (especially some of the really popular areas, which you'd think would have increased with another hundred thousand signers - some of them would have come from those areas). Of course, it could be the map/data not updating properly because of the high traffic, but it still seems suspicious to me. The total is updating, so it shouldn't be a problem to update the individual constituencies, if the extra signatories are real. I'm wondering just how much of it is bots. I hope not, as it was so great up til recently - sure, some will be bots/people with dozens of emails/random people making up Uk postcodes etc, but I think the majority would have been real most of the day. But the increase now just seems too quick.

Arowana · 21/03/2019 21:16

Signed and shared. Let's stop this madness!

lonelyplanetmum · 21/03/2019 21:21

The anti Trump one grew just as fast. Let's hope this one beats it!

Mistigri · 21/03/2019 21:23

The map colour code changes as the numbers grow, so you need to read the key carefully. Most of the U.K. signatories will be concentrated in remain cities and among users of social media.

I agree that a bit of caution is required though.

PickleFish · 21/03/2019 21:31

The exact numbers haven't changed, for example, in my constituency- neither the number nor the percent, not just the colour. Earlier in the day, each time the main number changed, both those things changed for each constituency. I hope it's just a data/traffic thing, I really do. But...

RabbitseatDogs · 21/03/2019 21:32

It's over 1.7m! That's a massive jump in under half an hour! Could it be because it was down earlier and it's playing catch up?

Sorry not over 1.7 nearly at 1.7.

Songsofexperience · 21/03/2019 21:35

1/10th of where it needs to be. It's a great start but still not enough.

RabbitseatDogs · 21/03/2019 21:45

We just need to times it by 10 😁

EcclesThePeacock · 21/03/2019 21:47

Well, it's over 1.7 now

Signed.

Ribbonsonabox · 21/03/2019 21:55

Seems to have come to a standstill now? At 1753194!

Tequilamockinbird · 21/03/2019 22:00

1,830,692 now

eurochick · 21/03/2019 22:01

We calculated earlier that at the current rate of signatures it would take over 300 days to get to 17 million. Much as I would love to see it happen I don't think the technology is up to it! It can't seem to cope with higher volumes.

RockyFlintstone · 21/03/2019 22:02

It's not going up constantly now is it, it's pausing and then going up in big increments. I guess the site can't process it quick enough.

CordeliaEarhart · 21/03/2019 22:05

We calculated earlier that at the current rate of signatures it would take over 300 days to get to 17 million.

Well it has gone up 1.5 million in one day so that can't possibly be right.

RockyFlintstone · 21/03/2019 22:05

We calculated earlier that at the current rate of signatures it would take over 300 days to get to 17 million.

OK, am I being really stupid here, but it has got a tenth of the way in a day (yesterday morning there were very few signatures) so surely it would just take a couple of weeks at this rate to get there? Obviously I'm sure the rate will lower over the next few days though.
