(though I feel more EU than British)

Surely this is because you are Irish not British?

Katterinaballerina · 21/03/2019 16:04

Did it never occur to any of those who voted with the intention of curbing immigration that leaving the EU would only curtail immigration from the EU and remove the right of EU citizens to work here without restrictions. That in turn means that we will have a a lot of vacancies within the NHS, within service industries etc. If EU citizens aren’t doing those jobs, we’ll need to increase non EU immigration to fill them.

This link is to a useful site keeping track of it all. It breaks it down by constituency too if you’re interested.

How can anyone think that the EU has any effect at all on immigration from Somalia?

Katterinaballerina · 21/03/2019 16:05

Not all leave voters are racists but all racists voted leave.

pepinana · 21/03/2019 16:07

How can anyone think that the EU has any effect at all on immigration from Somalia?

Genuinely - everyone in my extended family who voted leave thinks it means "less Syrian refugees and not letting terrorists and rapists in"

countrygirl99 · 21/03/2019 16:10

The UK will still take in refugees even if we leave the UK. Not all applicants for refugee status are granted that status and permitted to stay - I live about 4 miles from Yarls Wood.

Topseyt · 21/03/2019 16:10

Pepi, it just makes you despair, doesn't it?

I seriously think that some people are not only hard of comprehension, but they simply couldn't even read the question on the ballot paper. Or perhaps they didn't bother to try and just crossed the leave box regardless.

CardinalSin · 21/03/2019 16:10

"Not all leave voters are racists but all racists voted leave"

Actually, I know a couple of racists who voted Remain because they were astute enough to realise that leaving would result in more "coloured" immigration...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/03/2019 16:11

That's a good petition watch link FriedEgg, thank you.

Murphypoint · 21/03/2019 16:11

As a remainer I cannot see how this would work. As an example between us in this house we must have about 10/12 email accounts. We could sign that with each one of those. I doubt it’s a fair petition.

Topseyt

Would suggesting “because they’re not very bright” tar me as an elite remainer Grin

KennDodd · 21/03/2019 16:15

@Abra1de

Here's the interview I mention earlier, it's a bit long but very enlightening. It's a Vote Leave staffer who say's even he was lied to and believed the lies at first.

AdvancedAvoider · 21/03/2019 16:15

Underthesea the colour of the skin of the man who attacked you has nothing to do with it, the fact he has a penis does. I'm sorry that happened to you but it was not a reason to vote leave.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/03/2019 16:15

I shave them rtft. Has anyone posted this? Way to watch without crashing the site. www.pscp.tv/w/1PlKQyDQRPqKE

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/03/2019 16:16

I shave them = I haven’t!!

pepinana · 21/03/2019 16:18

This guy was a serial rapist. I don't think he should have been let in!

You said he was let in as a sixteen year old, so had he already started offending in Somalia and would background checks have shown that up?

Katterinaballerina · 21/03/2019 16:19

It’s very similar with the EU and fishing.

Cornwall voted leave, blaming the EU for fishing quotas and allowing European boats to fish our waters. The reality is that quotas were introduced to protect fishing stock and even if we had been outside of the EU we would still have introduced similar quotas. Also, all the EU did was bring in quotas and give each government the right to distribute them as they wished. It was our government that decided to sell the rights (the weight of specified fish that a boat is allowed to catch and keep) to the highest bidders rather than, for example, choosing to prioritise bids from local fleets who process their catches locally. The EU specifically allowed that national governments be allowed to put their own fishermen first. It’s our government that chose not to. Now Cornwall also has to cope with losing out on the EU funding it receives - £60 million a year.

pepinana · 21/03/2019 16:19

That 100%. Hold his sex to account, not his race.

I am not being sent a confirmation e.mail, not in junk and have checked I haven't blocked the site in the past as they do tend to keep sending stuff.

Anyone else? Annoying as people won't go back and check.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/03/2019 16:19

ok, I'll bite.
Refugees don't actually give a stuff if we are in the EU or not. Really, they don't.

Thanks for the link Mummyoflittledragon.
