Theresa May has asked for a short extension until 30th June, after Cabinet Brexiteers stopped her asking for a longer extension.

She has not stated the purpose of the extension beyond 'to pass her deal'. Which does not have a majority, because if it did May would be overturn the standing order Bercow invoked to block MVIII.

The EU have not reacted well to the request. Noises from France sound negative.

That doesn't mean we won't get one, but its not looking good. If we do it looks unlikely to go beyond May 23rd and EU elections.

We do not expect a response from the EU until Monday.

May has therefore in practice reinstated the possibility of no deal next Friday. Or at the end of any extension we do get.

She is due to give a speech on a podum at 6pm tonight.

Parliament has called an emergency debate on the extension to try and take control of debate. It, so far, looks like no more that the Brexit Secretary filibusting. Its going round and round in circles going no where.

Meanwhile rumours that Operation Yellowhammer will kick in on Monday are in the air. That's the first steps to martial law to manage no deal. This is very bad.

9 days to go.

It really hurt actually. Our lives are being shafted, and the continentals swop jokes about it. It's not funny - it's scary and tragic.

Absolutely. I'm flying back to the UK tomorrow after a short trip. I honestly can't stand being asked about brexshit anymore. As I posted earlier this morning, it's the same all over the EU. I thought I was going to cry earlier because people don't quite grasp how much of our lives will be fucked up.

MyNameIsArthur · 20/03/2019 19:26

Did TM really vote for Remain in 2016?!

GoldenSyrupLion · 20/03/2019 19:27

I suspect TM announcement will just be telling us what we already know.

Leader of Nigel Farage's party resigns over anti-Islam messages
Catherine Blaiklock sent racist posts and retweeted those of far-right figures before joining Brexit party

Gosh. How surprising is this?

The Guardian link wasn't live. In case t helps anyone else I've found this one (thanks to Leclerc Grin) : news.sky.com/watch-live

Though, reading about the increasing stress levels here, I'm going to calm down a bit so that I can stay the course.

pepinana · 20/03/2019 19:29

If its true corbyn walked out that's beyond pathetic

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 19:30

Vince Cable states that Corbyn walked out of meeting with May because the independent group were present

Seriously?! If this is true, he really is a childish twat.

Flowerplower · 20/03/2019 19:34

I'm in a training course in London this week and people started going off against Donald Trump today. I pointed out that actually what were going through in this country at the minute is probably worse as Trump is temporary, brexit is forever. I then said "who else is going on the March on Saturday", someone asked what the march is for and I said a second referendum. One woman said no, I just want it to all go away! I'm afraid people are still fairly complacent...and these are educated people, many with PhDs.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/03/2019 19:35

Can you imagine doing that at work? You'd be on a disciplinary! What a pathetic waste of space.

The Great Brexit Trade Takeover: Unilateral Powers Assigned to Liam Fox

Trade Secretary to be single-handedly responsible for defending UK against unfair trading practices as Trade Bill awaits passage

What type of scandal was Fox caught up in previously?

Did it involve unfair trading practises involving lobbying?

Nothing to see here. Move along now. In no way will we be copying the Trump empire...

My df hates all things Trump.

When I point out he is the same as Trump voters he just can't see it. Same stuff going on.

You are wrong on the first point BTW. The Trump Dynasty will have to be dragged out the White House.

She's more or less going to announce no deal isn't she?

OP posts:
TheElementsSong · 20/03/2019 19:39

I imagine she's going to announce the same old robotic lines that convey no new information.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2019 19:39

She's going to say 'let me be perfectly clear, as I've said all along we are leaving on May 24th and it's my way or the highway.'
I'm not watching.

^Labour on Corbyn refusing to meet May with
@ChukaUmunna and @Anna_Soubry:

"It was not the meeting that had been agreed and the terms were broken. Downing Street is in such chaos that they were unable to manage their own proposed meeting..." (1/2)^

Labour spokesperson continued on Corbyn's refusal to attend meeting: "We are in discussions with Number 10 about holding the bilateral meeting with the PM that Jeremy proposed at PMQs." (2/2)

Biggest political crisis in a generation and Corbyn goes 'I'm not playing if he's coming'

Fuck off.

Rory Stewart @ rorystewartuk
President Tusk + the European council have made it clear today that the Withdrawal Agreement is the only realistic and credible alternative to either no-Brexit or no-deal. And the only guarantee of an extension. Anyone who wants a serious planned Brexit should now support it.

Bet May says this almost word for word at the podum.

This article below breaks my heart because it highlights how much Europeans actually like(d) and admire(d) Britain. The criticisms are harsh because they all expected better.
I should know, being one of them and actively choosing this country. It's so very sad for someone who has roots on the continent but all their branches in Britain...

I've been getting regular No Deal e mails since I signed up to gov website today. Pretty worrying stuff.

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2019 19:44

Sam Coates Times @samcoatestimes
This from Tusk - "He will not hesitate to call extraordinary summit at the end of next week if the deal fails to pass again" - could mean the EU are still open to a LONG extension if deal falls

But TM today said she would not be PM for an extension into July
