This morning Jeremy Hunt declared that, 'With vision on both sides we can find a way through that has the support of Parliament and also works for the EU'

Of course this is 18th February 2019 and the UK has yet to demostrate they understand the problem, much less have the vision to solve it. And we leave the EU next month.

It needs to be stressed at this point: DON'T FORGET TO FOCUS ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS

Everything else is a tactic to make you close your eyes and miss what is really going on. Everything. Brexit looks increasingly like a hypnotist making their subject do ever increasing acts of ridiculousness on stage. Except I do not know if the public or the politicians are that poor sod. It is the magician who uses tricks of slight of hand to make you look the wrong way, whilst they makes all the big moves out of your vision.

There are so many stories that are coming out to try and make you miss what the government are failing to do. Stay focused. We can't ignore all these stories, but understand whether they are really important to the end game too.

A labour split, a march on the 23rd March, talk of a PV, the Brady amendment, the Malthouse Compromise, Cooper-Boles halting no deal?

No we need more than that.

The time for fantasies are gone. Its time to face reality and be pragmatic. The only thing that matters is the approaching cliff. Which we will go over not on the 29th March but in the next couple of weeks. We might not realise the ground disappearing beneath our feet at first. Our momentum as we go forward will carry for a short while before gravity kicks in.

But we can not defy the laws of physics and suddenly be able to fly because we develop magic superhuman powers of vision.

And no one will come to save us either.

Our national humilation will be total, if we don't acknowledge what is coming and stop.

Heidi Allen calls the seven Labour MPs "the magnificent seven" and herself one of "the three amigos"

Heidi Allen says she felt that Lord Kitchener pointed out to her saying "your country needs you" ...riiight.

Tom Barton @tombarton
Heidi Allen: those that rely on the welfare safety net are people. I believed I was part of a party that worked collaboratively. I am not.

I can no longer represent a government and party that can't open its eyes to the suffering endured by people in our society.

Heidi Allen: I want to be part of something; better. A party they vote for because they want to, not because they have to.

Spain using Gibralter to make Brits pay for EU visas. Getting tougher action against us from them, which is probably a huge shock to all of the Tories out there emphatically telling every other country that no one globally can do without us Wink

RedToothBrush · 20/02/2019 13:34

Steven Swinford @Steven_Swinford
Heidi Allen says that under David Cameron the Tories were challenging the nasty party image.

'I believed I was part of a party who worked collaboratively and had the ability to feel but I have slowly but surely realised I am not.'

Tom Peck @tompeck
Heidi Allen appears to be quitting over austerity.

Hannah Al-Othman @HannahAlOthman
Heidi Allen says she had no real interest in politics until 2011 and the Tottenham Riots. She joined the Conservatives because she felt compelled to change the country but has concerns about welfare policies and the “suffering endured by the most vulnerable in society.”

I know Tory voters like this...

Heidi Allen's speech was brilliant. If they do become a party I think she might make a good leader.

Sostenueto · 20/02/2019 13:35

Heidi Allen has my vote then!

TatianaLarina · 20/02/2019 13:36

a stupid decision at 15 is getting drunk on white lightening at the youth club, it's not running away to a war zone to voluntarily join and support a murderous religious cult.

They’re both stupid innit. 15 year olds have been running away to war since time began.

But a white aristocrat will get the navy sent to rescue her.

Jane Merrick @janemerrick23
This is a good speech by Heidi Allen: "Yes we are putting our heads above the parapet and we might fail. But isn't the prize worth fighting for? And I sense the country wants us to fight for it to. I for one am prepared to give it everything I've got." #ChangePolitics

Sebastian Payne @SebastianEPayne
Striking how much more cheerful the Conservative defectors are compared to the Labour breakaway on Monday.

Heidi Allen looks like she is on top of the world, she says she is “excited” in a way she hasn’t since she was first elected

It's interesting that the @TheIndGroup MPs are talking about #ChangePolitics and how they can do a different way of politics, while Labour and Tory outriders speak the language of old politics: going on about by-elections and deselections

Anna ( me me me) Soubry now on. Sorry I don't like her. Never met her but for some reason she grates on me. I apologise.

borntobequiet · 20/02/2019 13:41

If we're going for Winnie the Pooh names for Parliamentary groupings, may I suggest Heffalumps, Woozles, Jagulars and Bees? Oh and Rabbit's Friends and Relations.
Fun game while waiting for more to jump ship: allocate MPs to the most appropriate WtP party. N Soames would I think be a Heffalump. Deadwood a Woozle. G Williamson a Jagular.

wheresmymojo · 20/02/2019 13:41

This is my last post on SB on here as it's not the reason I follow this thread but @TatianaLarina

If you genuinely can't see the difference between:

  • A 15 yr old getting drunk on white lightening and supporting a religious death cult

OR

  • A 15 year old running away to join a war and joining a murderous death cult that terrorises and murders innocent civilians as a core strategy

Then you aren't compassionate, you have just lost the plot IMO.

DGRossetti · 20/02/2019 13:42

Britain, including Churchill, actually favoured execution

I believe Churchill favoured summary execution, which is a different kettle of fish. Ultimately quite a lot of the Nazi ringleaders were executed (badly by the US, by the way). Remember the end scenes of "Schindlers List".

RedToothBrush · 20/02/2019 13:42

Anna Soubry pays tribute to Tory activists "who enabled me to win" as she fights back tears.

Anna Soubry: "You don't leave a political party that you've called home... without a great deal of thought and a considerable amount of heartache."

Steven Swinford @Steven_Swinford
Anna Soubry:

The right-wing that have destroyed every Tory leader for the past 40 years are now running the Conservative Party.

It's over. We lost the referendum. Brexit now defines and shapes the Conservative Party

Theo Usherwood @theousherwood
Anna Soubry: As my friend - and he is my friend - Chuka Umunna said, ‘you don’t join a political party to fight it’.”

KateMaltby @KateMaltby
I first encountered @heidiallen75 at a meeting organised by a human rights charity to discuss UK policy towards Calais. She was forensic in confronting sacred cows on left & right. She was profoundly compassionate. And above all, impatient to do the right thing. No waiting around

My views on SB are perhaps coloured by the fact ive just done my prevent training.

She was a 15 year old girl who was radicalised.

She is a UK citizen.

She should be allowed back and face the legal system here. I'd assume that would be a jail term.

I'm not convinced by her "performance" on TV. I imagine an interview conducted once safely home would have a different tone?

She has been used as a brood mare and has buried 2 children.

I also havent forgetten that decca and unity mitford were both "rescued" and welcomed back after their flirtations with communists and nazis.

Of course, they were white and upper class....

The rule of UK law should stand. Sajid javid is using this girl for his own politics ends.

He is a despicable cunt.

RedToothBrush · 20/02/2019 13:44

Matt Foster @mattlpfoster
Anna Soubry: "The right wing, the hard-line anti-EU awkward squad that have destroyed every leader for the past 30 years are now running the Conservative Party."

Theo Usherwood @theousherwood
Anna Soubry says it is a “form of tyranny” that MPs now fear their Conservative associations more than their electorate, the people that voted them into Parliament.

They condemn it on the Left (Momentum) but it’s happening in the Tory party, she adds.

Was trying to determine the colour of Tiggers - is it meant to be black and white (from signage?) or are the chairs/ties meant to suggest mustard/purple? I think they should become real tiggers and do black, orange and white (striped) of course!

QuentinWinters · 20/02/2019 13:47

Anna Soubry just challenged other Tories and LDs to join them!
Go TIG
I'm feeling inspired
