Brexit

Will you be disappointed if Brexit goes smoothly

Genuine question to the Preppers - how will you feel if Brexit goes through with no significant shortages or civil unrest? Will you heave a sigh of relief and sleep better at night, or feel a tiny bit flat and disappointed?

It's the slightly excited tone of some of the Prepper threads that has me wondering this. As if having a reason to hoard is fulfilling some squirrelesque instinct, which my be thwarted if the hoards prove unnecessary?

I'm not sure you picked the best food examples LeClerc, Marmite and typhoo don't strike me as being very European? Or do you mean we'll be paying those sort of prices (in the UK)

€8 for a 250 gramme jar of Marmite.

I don't pay that for Marmite! It's €3.25 now because the price was raised when sterling dropped.

I don't pay that either, it stays on the shelf. The point was that 'British' imports are very expensive and that generally the cost of food in France is around 10% more than UK.

British imports are expensive because they are sold in very small quantities to a captive market.

I don't know that food is more expensive in France; it depends largely on the exchange rate at the time of comparison and whether you eat like a local/ where you shop. Cheaper at the moment, at £1=€1.14 but the UK felt expensive at £1=€1.40.

I always try and do a supermarket comparison food shop when I go to Italy but it’s hard because the average family’s food shop will be different in each country.
To take a silly example, last time I could only find expensive organic apple juice at 2 or 3 euros a bottle...but it’s not a popular juice flavour, I wanted ACE juice today (DS discovered it and loves it) but there wasn’t any in ASDA.
