Brexit

Will you be disappointed if Brexit goes smoothly

Genuine question to the Preppers - how will you feel if Brexit goes through with no significant shortages or civil unrest? Will you heave a sigh of relief and sleep better at night, or feel a tiny bit flat and disappointed?

It's the slightly excited tone of some of the Prepper threads that has me wondering this. As if having a reason to hoard is fulfilling some squirrelesque instinct, which my be thwarted if the hoards prove unnecessary?

Tinned pears are one of my favourite things. I do agree that tinned veg is not the best apart from sweetcorn though.

I also like chopped ham and pork and corned beef.

Takes self off to corner of shame.

IDoN0tCare · 13/02/2019 19:49

Thank you, bellinisurge. I’ll have a look at that. I’ve been meaning to get one for making dog treats, but with Brexit looming, there will be than dogs getting dried food.

Mayrhofen · 13/02/2019 19:52

I voted remain, I would be delighted if it went smoothly.

bellinisurge · 13/02/2019 19:54

Like most home preserve activities, it takes ages but is so worth it.
Check out 1960HikerDude on YouTube for backpacker meals made in it.
Again, not a Brexit essential by any means.
Sorry, op, this is actually just what I do in my spare time. I would love it if is was just my little thing and wasn't very interesting or useful to anyone who isn't a general prepper like me.

NameChanger22 · 13/02/2019 19:57

Has anyone seen the price of Spam lately? That shit used to be cheap.

IDoN0tCare · 13/02/2019 19:58

I’ll definitely check that out.

TalkinPeece · 13/02/2019 22:12

If my spare food gets used later in the year
and the shelves in my local shops stay full through April
and my Polish neighbours stop looking so scared
I'd be delighted

ContinuityError · 13/02/2019 23:06

Nobody is getting their hands on my tinned unicorn stash.

abbsisspartacus · 13/02/2019 23:27

I'm gluten intolerant and already there are shortages in my gluten free supply

BlackeyedGruesome · 13/02/2019 23:40

We have a lot of baked beans in for half term. The kids eat loads.

DippyAvocado · 13/02/2019 23:42

I have to admit to a panic buy purchase of a Fray Bentos pie. Haven't eaten one in years! I think I'm going to give it to the food bank.

MrsTerryPratcett · 14/02/2019 00:49

I'll take it off your hands @DippyAvocado

For the common good, you understand.

It's like a mass feeding frenzy in here.
Desperately hoping for even the slightest morsel to be thrown into the seething mass so you can all rip, shred and devour it into nothingness.
I threw a few scraps into the fold and got two pages of replies lol.

Brilliant

Cue the indignant replies stating how childish, foolish, unintelligent and ultimately regretful I shall be. "just you wait..."
Grin

abbsisspartacus · 14/02/2019 04:27

No one has said just you wait most of the replies are if there aren't shortages it will all get used anyway

Take the piss out of peppers why don't you Hmm

its like a discussion on a discussion thread where people raise points and question or agree or disagree with others.

theres nothing unusual about debate.

im getting the feeling youve never discussed current affairs before, the counter, is that right?

BertrandRussell · 14/02/2019 07:11

Are you reading a different thread?

abbsisspartacus · 14/02/2019 07:42

Yes clearly I am Hmm I really hope Brexit goes smoothly that there are no shortages of medicine food and fuel etc etc

I also hope to get my letter from Hogwarts any day now

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 14/02/2019 07:50

I used to love fried spam as a kid. With some mashed potatoes and gravy. Should try it again one day.

TheCounter

As long as the food in question is spam and tinned pears then this is an accurate description.

bellinisurge · 14/02/2019 08:30

Pretty sure you are looking at another website TheCounter . If "having a different view to TheCounter" counts as mass hysteria, there's quite a lot of that.

TheElementsSong · 14/02/2019 08:40

Would explain a lot - they're actually watching that flying piranhas movie on another tab and got confused Grin

IDoN0tCare · 14/02/2019 11:29

Aww bless. Counter needed that bit of validation today and got it, in his/her wee mind. That’s sweet and I for one am glad to be of help. Poor pet. 💐

Don't be silly.
You'd be vacum packed and frozen, to be eaten at a post-Brexit date.

wonkylegs · 14/02/2019 11:49

I see it as - it all goes well great, move on and slowly work through my larder (I haven't bought anything I don't usually, I just have slightly more of it)
If it all goes tits up for a bit, I have a well stocked larder that will make life a bit more comfortable
Either way there is no loss.
I always run a slightly full larder anyway as I grew up in a house with not a lot of food in it and I like to always have something in as a comfort thing.
