Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

Suitcase on top of wardrobe/under bed?

Potentialmadcatlady · 08/03/2019 22:10

Right will get on it ( and then try to remember where I have hidden everything!)

SparklySneakers · 08/03/2019 22:20

I've got 3 underbed boxes but only 2 are full after moving stuff around and organising things. I've utilised an unused bookcase in the cupboard under the stairs that used to be for shoes. I only have one cupboard for tins and jars and packets and a half cupboard that's used for cereal and bread so not much storage space. The food under the stairs is fairly well hidden by the hoover, brush and steam mop and the buggy lives in front of the door. The boxes I might put under dd's cabin bed. I've not got mountains of stuff. If I had enough actual kitchen cupboards it would just look like I took advantage of 3 for 2 offers and kept things well stocked or only shopped once a month or so.
The thought of anyone being so desperate as to steal saddens and scares me. I really hope things don't get beyond slightly less choice and a bit samey for a while but I fear the worst.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/03/2019 22:23

I keep forgetting suncream.

BlackeyedGruesome · 09/03/2019 07:42

not telling where I have mine.

but people have mentioned under bed, under stairs, and other random places.

a lot of mine is on view, a lot is hidden. I have mixed up the stashes so that there is a variety in each one, mainly. some are better for storing one thing than others so there is say a stash of mainly tins, but this is varied tins, as they will fit in that space.

walk round your house slowly and thing where you can put this or that.

HeronLanyon · 09/03/2019 08:21

Black eyed - I too have brexit boxes but not sorted for meals or mixed at all. Lots here have described mixing boxes into meals or similar. Have never understood this (maybe just too lazy to drag them all out again to reorder). Are you imagining losing one box or having one box taken/stolen?? Must admit if I lost my olive caper Gherkin Chilli garlic etc box I’d be worried! Hmmm . .

I’d understand if I was prepping for weather event or where I might have to stash things in wildly differing places (caches) in case of needing to travel/roam after an ‘event’.
I’m hoping Brexit won’t be quite so catastrophic??

ArmchairTraveller · 09/03/2019 19:43

The interesting thing for me is that I now have around 6 weeks of stores stashed and OH hasn’t noticed. Including the 45 toilet rolls under the futon base and the extra plastic boxes of stuff under the stairs.

SparklySneakers · 09/03/2019 19:51

ArmchairTraveller that's impressive stealth stockpiling!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/03/2019 20:10

Mine is all in our loft on shelves. I reckon I can say that here with no issue as noone knows I'm doing this apart from dh and DD.
Everything is dated with Sharpies so I can stock rotate and on a spreadsheet so I know dates and numbers.
It's a bit of a pain climbing into the loft each time I need to swap stuff around, but it keeps it at a sensible level.

I wish I had a basement. I'd have a lovely ordered one with pickles and stuff.

MadauntofA · 09/03/2019 20:17

Sparkly, I've managed to hide about 4wks worth in random places I know aren't touched (behind books on shelves etc) without DH (who thinks this is all a bit nutty) and DC noticing. I do all the food shopping, and have gathered it gradually.

SparklySneakers · 09/03/2019 20:40

My 3 underbed boxes are now hidden away. Only mum and the dc know I've got a stash. Best friend knows I've got a few things but nothing like what I have got.

BlackeyedGruesome · 09/03/2019 21:59

Not told anyone except ex in the hope that he will get some stuff in to feed the children, but no, he keeps going on about my stash. He is a security nightmare. I just don't want to have to feed him loads as well as he would decimate it in no time at all. Nor anyone else he tells.

BlackeyedGruesome · 09/03/2019 22:02

I am planning on eating it all next week as I have a sore hip and can not walk round the shops.

BlackeyedGruesome · 09/03/2019 22:03

At least that's what I will tell him.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/03/2019 22:18

good plan.

BlackeyedGruesome · 09/03/2019 22:42
Grin

He will be eating plain rice. I am relying on his garden to house my vegetable growing pots so can't be too mean. But best he thinks there is not much left.

MadauntofA · 10/03/2019 18:01

What's the strangest food you have stockpiled (I.e. not useful like a tonne of pasta, but just something unusual you know would cheer you up in the midst of chaos?
Mine is 2 tiny Christmas puddings - bought after ChristmasGrin) No one else likes them in my family, so will be for me!!

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/03/2019 18:36

Just two? I have 6 in ever increasing ages ..Blush usually 1 or 2 per Christmas that did not get eaten. I could give ex a spare one I suppose.

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/03/2019 18:39

I have Pringles, chocolate, crisps, sweets, Easter eggs, stashed as treats and fizzy pop.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2019 18:40

capers?

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/03/2019 18:49

Ah yes, I have a couple of jars of olives and couple of tins of anchovies. At least the anchovies are small.

MadauntofA · 10/03/2019 18:52

Ooohhh capers - definitely need to add them to my list

PrawnOfCreation · 10/03/2019 19:32

Soap. I know that's a sensible thing to have. But I have enough bar soaps and body brushes to do me for 20 years. I always tend to grab another when I'm out. I store some in with my clothes for the scent.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2019 21:45

I keep forgetting soap.

SparklySneakers · 10/03/2019 21:57

I have 4 bars but they don't seem to last long. I've now banished my DDs from my shower as think they use my soap instead of their shower gel so it might last longer.
Discussed my "to get" list with mum today and she's thinking she hasn't got that much. Have told her to write down what means he can make with what she's got to get a better idea.

Anyone know where they sell packs of individual pie sized puff pastry? Asda used to sell it but haven't had it for ages. There were about 6 squares in a pack and were perfect for individual tarts or a good sized individual puff pastry top pie.

Hope the above isn't as big when posted. Not sure what I've done Blush
