Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

That's cool (if a little rude of you to say Hmm), but somebody on here might have the same lack of storage and lack of funds issue as me and maybe it won't cure fascism but it might be better than nothing on their weetabix if the cows are stuck in the eurotunnel delayed Wink

chillinapot · 02/03/2019 23:54

I understand, and didn't want to be rude about your recipe, chakira but, there's one sort of regime that controls its people with food shortages, and it's not a nice one.

Many are too poor or without homes and unable to stockpile.

For many reasons this is an extremely dangerous situation.

Gratuitous lectures on Mumsnet are no cure for facism either. Leave off.

I wasn't going to come back on this thread, but, I have come back to say, carry on, this is the best laugh I've had in a long time.

Fuck me, your life must be truly shit then.

Do carry on mocking if it brings such joy to your life Smile Flowers

Parker231 · 03/03/2019 08:56

@Salli - why do you think like that? What do you know which the general public don’t?

bellinisurge · 03/03/2019 09:02

I'm sorry that your life is so miserable @SalliSunbeem , that people discussing shopping brings you joy.

borntobequiet · 03/03/2019 09:04

Here you are, Salli, you need not keep returning to this thread now.

@chillinapot , there have been plenty of examples for people to gets buffer in cheaply and proportionately over a few months- just three days worth. Jack Monroe has also been doing it.

ArmchairTraveller · 03/03/2019 09:10

It’s like the Aesop fable that is my life. I’m the ant who married the grasshopper. He may laugh and fiddle and entertain, and I do love the frivolous irrelevance of so much that he does, but when the shit hits the fan it’s my turn.
We work well as a team, because neither of us truly mocks the other.
Enjoy the threads Salli, I do hope it’s the Year of the Grasshopper.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/03/2019 09:32

I am going to ask permission to use the church garden to plant vegetables to use for us and the church café.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2019 10:22

That's a really good idea Blackeyed. I like your thinking.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/03/2019 17:36

I asked. I need to submit a proposal in writing.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 03/03/2019 18:54

Joining this thread to say I bottled 10L of fruit yesterday. Apples in juice, pears and cinnamon in apple juice and easy peeler oranges in juice. I am a jam maker with a variety of sealing jars. I had some larger containers I have made damson gin in before so i added alcohol to the large containers of pears and oranges so that they keep longer in the fridge once opened.

Decided my stockpile was low on fruit. Must get fruit juice too actually

Looking forward to then whatever happens. Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2019 19:02

That sounds proceedurely positive!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2019 19:04

should have refreshed, sorry 2bees, that sounds pretty awesome.
/ponders preserving rhubarb in alcohol.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 03/03/2019 19:16

Kitten I used vodka for the pairs and blood orange Cointreau for the oranges. I bought the Cointreau Xmas but didn’t like it neat . Good use I thought for it!

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/03/2019 19:26

Also added more items to the forward purchased goods.

Bought my antihistamines, some of dd's antihistamines, (need to check dates of her old ones) printer/ drawing paper, domestos, kitchen roll, kids vitamins and minerals, compost,

Tinned peas, a couple of tins of veggie meals, canellini beans, cereals that ds has now decided to eat instead of the masses of weetbiscs I have in stock. frozen peppers, stir in sauce to replace the ones we have eaten, bread mixes, (Asda brand which are cheaper than the branded ones,) more baked beans,

I still need plasters, AAA batteries, light bulbs, boxes to store my flour, piriton, tinned pears, fish fingers, and a big bag of potatoes.

Middlrm · 03/03/2019 19:38

bellinisurge · 03/03/2019 19:40

@Middlrm - that looks absolutely fine.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2019 19:41

You've inspired me 2bees to do something with our fruit this summer like that. I've been googling large kilner jars and overproof alcohol.

bellinisurge · 03/03/2019 19:47

@OhYouBadBadKitten - I found a sloe bush last autumn on a walk I started to do. Public road. Public bush Grin. They accidentally fell into a load of gin and sugar and are accidentally sitting on my shelf grinning at me.

MadauntofA · 03/03/2019 19:49

2bee did you do anything to the apples before putting them in juice other than peeling them?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2019 20:12

I do sloe gin every year Grin I'm not allowed to open this years batch until Brexit as a commiseration.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 03/03/2019 20:42

Kitten if you don’t want to add sugar - I didn’t - you need to put the fruit and juice in hot. I poached the fruit in water for a few minutes before it went soggy. I then filled the jars and added about 25% alcohol to 75% hot juice . Then I processed them using the hot water method but you could use the oven for this. I would try gin and apple juice for rhubarb maybe.
