Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

We have a large stock of soya milk , DD only drinks that, thankfully any unsweetened cheap variety.

lasttimeround · 04/03/2019 16:59

Good to see I'm not alone, despite the arguments on here, in thinking "itd be good to have a bit more spare in the pantry in case of shortages." Especially seeing as asd dd has a lack of flexibility. Im thinking dried goods. Canned fruit. Cereal. Milk and juice in cartons. Oh god and toilet paper. Do we actually have any idea which supply chains look most vulnerable? I was thinking of stocking up on basics to last about a month. Will have a closer look at the thread

Parker231 · 04/03/2019 18:05

I looked at the tins and packets of the food we eat the most and realised how little is both produced and packaged in the UK. We go to my parents in Belgium about once a month so need to stock up this weekend on the things we usually get from there.

AutumnCrow · 04/03/2019 18:10

I'm still mostly worried about medications and we have received no assurances from any source about supply of essential medicines like levothyroxine.

lasttimeround · 04/03/2019 19:59

Im trying not yo worry about meds seeing as there doesn't seem to be much we can do. Getting repeats in early but my husband's more serious meds come by a postal thing at end of month.
Anyway we now have a months worth of staples and enough to make very simple meals stashed in the attic. I grumbled about fucking need it the whole time getting it done. I am now going to forget about it and breathe until April

SparklySneakers · 04/03/2019 20:27

I'm hoping that all will be fiiinnee and I will have greatly reduced shopping bills for a couple of months and can put that money towards family fun stuff in the summer. I've got far more household and toiletry items than I thought and will be ok for 2-3 months there. I bought an 18 pack of crisis today for the stash. I can't stash many and the date on them is only May so not buying loads. They will be a treat and rationed if there are shortages. My lot would devour 18 bags in a day if I let them! I'm more concerned with Having meals than crisps.
Related is that my auntie I turned me the other day that crisps were going up by 25p a packet (not sure if multipack packet rather than individual) due to a poor potato crop with small potatoes. That explains why I've not had any decent sized jacket spuds for months.

Water purifying tablets arrived today. Praying it doesn't come to that.

ChakiraChakra · 05/03/2019 09:27

I bought an 18 pack of crisis today

The typo did make me giggle there, sparkly! 😁

I bought a 24 pack of shortages loo roll to stash for parents who aren't prepping because they might as well be daily mail readers yesterday. I've never bought such a huge pack, and is hiding in the boot of my car for want of knowing where to store it 😂

SparklySneakers · 05/03/2019 09:50

Silly phone always autocorrects crisps to crisis Confused about right thought for brexit. I might rename the Brexit drawer as the crisis drawer Grin

SalliSunbeem · 05/03/2019 15:09

You'll all be pleased to hear my Tesco shop comes tomorrow complete with 10 of everything.

(I was scared you'd have all bought everything and left me nothing come Brexit day)

for those contemplating an easiyo, orders on their website come with a free easiyo (pink version) during March if you spend £20

AdoraBell · 05/03/2019 15:43

I’ve ordered extra coffee beans and wine 😁 taken full advantage of offers on loo roll, and I know where the local Chinese takeaway keep their stock I saw them taking a delivery last week.

downcasteyes · 05/03/2019 16:07

"I’ve ordered extra coffee beans and wine"

Careful now, you'll have half of Mumsnet asking whether you 'just have an addictive personality', and whether you've considered AA Wink

Is there actually a list anywhere of things that are likely to run short? Someone told me flour was likely to be a problem, and that tortilla wraps are great because loads of them keep for ages.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2019 16:16

@downcasteyes , just get an extra supply of what you like. Keeping away from angsty shops until things settle down is the idea.

Cloudtree · 05/03/2019 16:41

Its very difficult to know what will be in short supply since once one thing becomes difficult to get hold of people switch to buying something else - that then becomes difficult to get hold of..

PrawnOfCreation · 05/03/2019 17:05

This is why buying what you like is the way. Take breakfast. I've got hunners of cheerios as the kids will eat them even with uht milk. If your kids hate uht milk, then breakfast bars, just add water pancake mix, or the ability to make your own rolls is worth looking at, you can freeze eggs too. Don't wait until everyone is trying to sort a nice breakfast, I don't think anyone will starve, but I a) won't take that risk and b) would rather see my kids with something they enjoy that forcing something down because its all that's available.

Only thing i scrimped on really was toiletries. We have bog roll, basic soap, shampoo, bubble bath etc. It wasn't in my budget to buy nice brands ahead of the usual time, we'll be clean if not pampered.

AdoraBell · 05/03/2019 17:46

🤣

SparklySneakers · 08/03/2019 11:03

I'm feeling very pleased with my stockpile of treats which will last a month I think. Apart from the crisps. They'll only last 10 days or so. I've got plenty of biscuits, sweets and chocolate. The children are desperate to dive in!

Kittywampus · 08/03/2019 20:49

I've got about a month's worth of stuff. I'm waiting a bit to buy things like cheese, vegetables, and bread. Tortilla wraps have a long date on them and also those bake at home rolls. I've also worked out how to make my own oat milk from porridge oats - it's fine in tea and coffee although there is no chance of the kids drinking it!

Dp still thinks we will get an extension and it will all be fine. I'm not sure but don't want to risk it.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/03/2019 21:03

We got 2kg of cheese with May dates today.

SparklySneakers · 08/03/2019 21:20

I think all that's left on my list of things to get is:

For the freezer:
Bread
Butter
Cheese
Veg
Veggie stuff for the children-sausages, burgers, nuggets etc

For the fridge:
Butter
Cheese
Tonic water
Beer

For the cupboard:
Lentils
Cereals
Cinnamon and ginger
Bread flour
Yeast

Household:
Bleach
More loo roll
Cling film
Baking parchment
Printer paper
Kitchen roll
Loaf tin
Batteries

Toiletries:
Sun cream
Sudocrem
Cotton wool pads
Aveeno
Sanpro just in case dd hits menarche

Medication:
Cocodamol incase of shortages on prescription drugs
Fluconazole and canestan because it's sod's law I'd get thrush even though I've not had it for years and there'd be no fluconazole available.

If I don't get all those things it's not the end of the world though as pretty much sorted. They are just what I'd like to ensure I feel as ready as possible. Seems a lot still reading back and I've not much money at all until a week on Tuesday so can't do it all next week as hoped.

anyone have any idea how soon we'd start to see shortages if no deal? Next day due to panic buying maybe? Or longer as I'm sure I've heard that all the warehouses are full?

I catch myself writing these things and think how the hell has it come to this?. It feels like fiction. Something that can't be possible in my life time.

I feel like I live and breathe brexit. Frequently checking the news for changes, or updates, checking and contributing to threads on here, planning what to buy, looking at my stash and thinking wow, that's a lot of food! And how many bottles of shower gel and deodorants?? My treats stash brings me joy though and I know we'll all enjoy it very much!

SparklySneakers · 08/03/2019 21:23

We are going to have a go at making wraps this weekend. My children looked at me in disbelief and fascination when I said I used to make my own tzatziki as a teenager Grin I don't think I knew it was possible to but it ready made! I'd had it on holiday in Greece and loved it so made some. Natural yoghurt, mint, garlic, and cucumber. Will be lovely with fresh bread.

Potentialmadcatlady · 08/03/2019 21:40

I was sorting out my stash this week before doing a big shop next week and it got me thinking... is anyone worried about security? I’m
On a tight budget and have been gradually gathering stuff up.. best case scenario my shopping bill will be light for next few months. Worst case scenario I could probably keep us well afloat for three months... but what if things go really bad and people start to panic/steal/loot? My stash isn’t hidden as such.. should I be thinking about that or am I being over dramatic???

bellinisurge · 08/03/2019 21:45

I have hidden ours. And we tell no one that we have it.

Potentialmadcatlady · 08/03/2019 21:49

What sort of places do you hide it in? Tiny house with a big storage cupboard so most of mine is in there or in my now very full kitchen cupboards...

Potentialmadcatlady · 08/03/2019 21:50

Behind kickboards would be good for tins I guess?
