Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

apparently we're going to thrive and be inundated with fish(because we can finally catch our own)

The reason we have to sell so much of our fish overseas is because the British won't eat it. We're not big on cuttlefish and spider crabs apparently.

ArmchairTraveller · 23/02/2019 16:23

But we have a trade deal with the Faroes, and their exports are 99% fish, so you’ll be scoffing a lot of fishy-type lifeforms. Not me, obviously, as a veggie, I’ll be munching my way through multiple forms of pulses with the occasional bit of seaweed.

rosie39forever · 23/02/2019 16:34

Perversely a no deal could be the final nail in the coffin of the fishing industry, ironic considering they overwhelmingly voted leave, also be prepared for fish and chip shops to rise their prices as most of our cod comes from Iceland who are in EFTA.

AlphaJuno · 23/02/2019 20:00

My treat is alcohol 🍺. All I've managed to stash so far is a bottle of wine I got for my birthday. Beers just get drunk by me or dp. Might get one of those wine kits for if things get desperate. I've got an apple tree which is due a bumper crop this year, I can make wine from apples and forage for other things like hawthorn, elderberry/flower and sloes later in the year. I've stashed crisps and chocolate for dp and the DCs (somewhere they don't know about!)

ChakiraChakra · 23/02/2019 21:35

So, my bottom draw brexit stash was overflowing so I sorted it out, only to find that the whole chunky sturdy vessel was in danger of coming apart with the weight! 😯 Blush

So some reorganizing later I have spread the load over several draws, interspersed with dresses, trousers and knickers.

...it's entirely possible that I won't find all of my stash for years to come 😂

I also realised why I have spent so much on food the last couple of months. I have way more in my stash than I realised! Any more purchasing now must wait until the end of the month (pay day).

So we have battered cuttlefish & chips at a nice low price then - everyone's a winner! You'll not be able to tell it's not cod and if they don't tell you....

rosie39forever · 24/02/2019 10:10

Chippies tried to introduce bassa when there was a cod shortage, which is a white fish similar to cod and that went down like a lead balloon so people happy to eat cuttlefish which is squid like is never gonna happen.

FriarTuck · 24/02/2019 12:19

It's like squid?! Shock
I'll stick to my Brexit fish finger stash then!

ChakiraChakra · 24/02/2019 13:22

And doesn't cuttlefish have that massive big bone in it (that gets fed to birds - or is that something else entirely?!)

rosie39forever · 24/02/2019 14:17

Yes it's a big sqid typething with a massive bone in it

I'm loving how this thread has gone from photos of stockpiles to discussions about cuttlefish 😂

We used to give a cuttlefish thingy to our canary (when I was a mere child and didn't have a stockpile of my own). I didn't realise it was a bone. You live and learn..... Grin

KatyMac · 24/02/2019 16:12

If you wrap cheese/butter/pate etc for the freezer with greasproof paper - how do you fold it so it doesn't open?

rosie39forever · 24/02/2019 16:18

Perhaps the cuttlefish can be the secret official mascot of the Brexit stockpilers, we can all wear a cuttlefish badges And exchange knowing looks when in the supermarket 🤣🤣

bellinisurge · 24/02/2019 16:30

We certainly need a cuttlefish emoji

Cloudtree · 24/02/2019 16:32

I just freeze it in the packaging it comes in

NoWordForFluffy · 24/02/2019 16:33

I couldn't even find any grease proof paper in Wilko yesterday. Need to get some from Farmfoods when I go after pay day.

FriarTuck · 24/02/2019 16:45

And exchange knowing looks when in the supermarket
I'd suggest pulling your right earlobe and then doing a little fish impression with your hand Grin It can be done quite furtively if you want or more outrageously if you want to scare other customers away from the till so you get through first.

ChakiraChakra · 24/02/2019 16:46

We certainly need a cuttlefish emoji

@MNHQ

Please oh please oh please make this happen!

ChakiraChakra · 24/02/2019 16:49

Anyway how cognition anybody eat a cuttlefish, they're so cute!

founds cuttlefish appreciation society

ChakiraChakra · 24/02/2019 16:50

Could, not cognition!

KatyMac · 24/02/2019 16:55

I bought 2lb butters as they were on offer so I cut them each into 4 so they go further

Plus pate, I wrap in one portion servings as DD has been known to eat half a tray without noticing!

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/02/2019 17:02

String? Thread? Around the grease proof paper not the cuttlefish.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/02/2019 17:13

Where did you get those larger butters from KatyMac?

KatyMac · 24/02/2019 17:26

They seem to have folded in like butter papers pretty well - so I have stacked them so the ends are folded as far as I can.....

Lurpak last week at Tesco end of March date & I have frozen about 12lbs of butter in 4oz parcels

24 portions of pate

18-24 salmon portions (well 6 big ones that DH will cut up for me - I freeze them flat on a silicone tray then stack)

& 3kgs of cheese also in 4oz portions

Plus frozen spinach for DH to try no way am I eating it
