Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

Frozen spinach is really handy to have in, Brexit stockpiling or not! It can be added straight into sauces, soups, bakes etc and adds extra colour and nutrition. I haven't bought anything for the freezer yet. Need to have a clear out beforehand really.

SparklySneakers · 24/02/2019 18:14

Waitrose and Asda sell 500g blocks of butter but don't know about anywhere else. Not seen any in Tesco.

bellinisurge · 24/02/2019 18:24

Perpetual spinach is dead easy to grow in little pots and very forgiving

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/02/2019 18:31

I hope to grow some this year too.

SparklySneakers · 24/02/2019 18:59

I feel the need to raid my chocolate stash tonight once the children are in bed. Must buy more chocolate raisins. They are a great all rounder for a chocolate hit, plus fruit, plus fibre. Beats syrup of figs Grin

KatyMac · 24/02/2019 19:56

Spinach was OK according to DH - I hated the frozen leeks we bought so only for soups I guess - they were grey Sad

MaccaPacca81 · 24/02/2019 20:30

Heres my stash. Plus what i aleeady have in the cupboards, a 10kg bag of rice, a freezer full of meat and frozen veg. Im set to exist for a solid 6-8 weeks without having to go shopping.

3 heart medications are more of a problem Hmm

I have not really considered any of this so am reading with interest. I need to buy GF food and notice much of it seems to be European brands. This thread is making me wonder if I should stock up...

IDoN0tCare · 24/02/2019 22:12

Definitely get the gluten free stuff in, OnlyToWin. If there is even a temporary shortage of any food, people will try to buy replacements and that’s where your biggest risk is.?if you think about the small stock of gluten free stuff that is on the shelves, compared to the non gluten free, that’s very little compared to the people who will want to buy it to try it, if their usual stuff isn’t there.

IDoN0tCare · 24/02/2019 22:13

Excuse the errant ‘?’

OnlyToWin · 24/02/2019 22:17

Thanks IdoNotCare that’s helpful. You’re right - it’s pretty limited and expensive anyway. It costs us a fortune as it is; I dread to think what will happen to the cost in April!

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/02/2019 22:20

That looks a very satisfying stash maccapacca.

Only to win, I would get in some gluten free stuff if you can afford it, though stick to the stuff you use normally. Would be awful to be stuck without food to can eat.

HeronLanyon · 24/02/2019 22:21

Macca - looks great. May I gently enquire )without causing stampede) if you have oil/olive oil and dairy stuff frozen - roll/kitchen stuff is elsewhere ?? Looks great ! I can see similarities with mine although as a vegetarian I have a lot more pasta and pulses.

Funny to think in future we will be saying ‘yes we even stocked up with emergency food it was all such a mess’ to incredulous youngsters - or perhaps not Confused

HeronLanyon · 24/02/2019 22:21

Meant loo roll.

IDoN0tCare · 24/02/2019 22:23

I feel dreadfully sorry for anyone who is already struggling financially and those people who have special diets, as the future does look scary. If you can afford to get some stuff in BEFORE payday, I would OnlyToWin. My concern would be thatvithers are also going to stick up on payday. I know my youngest’s classroom assistant is.

IDoN0tCare · 24/02/2019 22:24

MaccaPacca81, don’t forget sanitary wear and toilet rolls. Cleaning products would be good too, but the first two are murd essential.

OnlyToWin · 24/02/2019 22:29

Thanks for all the advice - much appreciated. I will stock up on GF pasta, cereals, breadsticks etc. this week. Eating at home is fine, but I do need to have stuff in for dd to eat when out and about and for packed lunches. Her tastes are quite limited really so being adventurous has failed in the past and led to expensive waste! I can do some baking for the freezer before then too.

MintyCedric · 24/02/2019 22:41

Didn't know you could freeze butter and pate...that's handy?

I'm freezing grated mozzarella and cheddar, and noticed Tesco are doing frozen chorizo chunks and cheese sauce so I'll get some of those at some point.

Any other freezer tips...I saw something about frozen eggs somewhere?

Also milk...probably won't have room to freeze any and wondering if powdered or UHT is a better option. Don't fancy either tbh.

MintyCedric · 24/02/2019 22:47

rosie39 I had a similar convo with my Brexiteer mum today...it's all scaremongering apparently.

Tbf her house is stocked like a bunker anyway. I just hope to God nothing goes tits up with all the medications she and Dad are on.

Speaking of which, bearing in mind the time of year it's all going to kick off I'm going to get a few months supply of antihistamines in.

HeronLanyon · 24/02/2019 22:51

Freezer - I’ve done big cook up of Bramley apple sauce with rhubarb and rhubarb and ginger (see the theme? My shopping trolley was pink !) into small paper cups to freeze and then wrap in cling film. I think I am most worried about fruit and veg hence 20/30 of them. Small freezer but quite amazing what you can fit in without boxes etc.

IDoN0tCare · 24/02/2019 22:58

MintyCedric, you can slice some butter as if it were cheese, freeze the slices separately, then rewrap it, so you can defrost it in bits.

I don’t take dairy, but use barista quality oat milk, which you shake well before using and according to my milk drinking friend, there’s little difference in the taste. Do remember to shake it though. You could try a few different milk alternatives. They’re in the long life milk isle. You don’t need to refrigerate them until they’re opened.

Moorfields · 24/02/2019 23:03

I've bought 6 litres of uht milk plus a tin of Arlo Dano full fat powdered milk. Dano is hard to find here, I bought it from my local Indian grocery shop. I refuse to buy Nestle products so Nido milk powder is out & Marvel is skimmed milk powder.

MintyCedric · 24/02/2019 23:13

I might give oat milk a try then. I really don't fancy soya or nut milk from what I've read about them, particularly in drinks. I'd imagine some could be nice on cereal or in recipes though.

Will definitely be putting some butter in the freezer then.

Mrsmadevans · 24/02/2019 23:24

Can you freeze fresh Alpro coconut milk does anyone know please, only my DD is vegan and doesn't like the uht one Hmm

ChakiraChakra · 24/02/2019 23:48

MintyCedric both powdered and uht are fairly awful. my order of preference would be to store oatly barista, then uht, then powdered. I've got uht x 1 and a tub powdered because space is running short. If I get desperate enough it'll do.
