Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

You don't need to buy a yoghurt flask if you already own a flask, slow cooker or big lidded pot and some blankets Smile

I don't bother with it regularly but it's very easy to make yoghurt from a big bottle of milk and a small pot of natural yoghurt.

bellinisurge · 20/02/2019 07:50

Try this. It's targeted to the US viewer but I suppose we can cope.

ChakiraChakra · 20/02/2019 07:51

Which reminds me I bought powdered milk yesterday - anybody ever used it? I have a feeling it will be grim, but storage space is at a premium so more efficient than long life milk, and when (hopefully) it's all over and I don't need it as milk I'll just have to made delicious fudge with it Wink

Mistigri · 20/02/2019 08:40

You don't need anything to make yoghurt except UHT milk, a pot of natural yoghurt and something that will keep it all at the right temp. I make mine in my electric pressure cooker - heat the milk to 110F, put in the yoghurt and mix, leave it on the yoghurt setting for 8-9 hours. It is the easiest thing in the world to make if you can control the temperature, but hit and miss using traditional techniques. The yoghurt bacteria won't grow unless the temperature is in just the right range - too hot will kill them, too cold and they won't grow.

ChakiraChakra · 20/02/2019 10:03

@Batsypatsy
I've read somewhere here to stockpile what you already eat, for us that is things like stew, casserole, cottage pie.

So how about tinned mixed veg, beans, tinned stewing steak and mince in gravy, and tinned potatoes and/or dried mash? I'd add tomato puree, tinned tomatoes and/or passata, lots of different tinned beans and pulses, stock cubes and just make sure my dried herbs and spices cupboard was well stocked. Don't forget the gravy granules and ketchup Wink

ChakiraChakra · 20/02/2019 10:09

Ooh and if you like thick yoghurt you can use some of your dried milk stash get a cheesecloth and strain it, and the leftover whey makes a) ricotta cheese, b) fizzy drinks and c) glorious pizza bases Grin

I think I like whey more than yoghurt

bellinisurge · 20/02/2019 11:01

More US yoghurt stuff. This time in a slow cooker if you have one.

Batsypatsy · 20/02/2019 15:55

Thanks chakira. I've now added to my supplies .. I've got tinned peas, carrots, potatoes, pears, soup, baked beans, tuna, teabags, coffee, dried mash, orange juice cartons, long life milk and almond milk, loo roll, cupasoup, pasta, jars of pasta sauce, sanitary towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, chocolate, biscuits, washing up liquid ... need to add cat food and tinned meat, then I think I've got the basics.

Batsypatsy · 20/02/2019 15:56

Need to have a big tidy though because it's all in toppling piles in my store cupboard!

redhat · 20/02/2019 16:15

I've added more shampoo and conditioner today after realising I don't have as much as I thought. Decent price on amazon for large 900ml bottles of tresemme

RedWineAllMine · 20/02/2019 16:25

Not stockpiling as such, my leisurely trip to Asda always ends up like your photo once I hit the reduced section 😂
No need to stockpile, anyone would think the world was about to end and we are about to be on rations.. silly behaviour!

redhat · 20/02/2019 16:26

silly attitude - defies all indications to the contrary

IDoN0tCare · 20/02/2019 16:27

No need to stockpile, anyone would think the world was about to end and we are about to be on rations.. silly behaviour!

Yet, you still felt the need to comment. Why is that, when there are so many other threads that should interest you more?

RedWineAllMine · 20/02/2019 16:29

My sincere apologies, I didn't realise I would be hunted down by the thread Police
I'm not the only one on this thread who thinks it's unnecessary! Grin

redhat · 20/02/2019 16:33

but as we draw ever closer with even the likes of Michael Gove going on the record as saying there will be problems, I think more and more people are realising it isn't "silly behaviour".

Its the sensible thing to do, not the silly thing. Failing to ensure basics are available for yourself and your family is simply irresponsible IMO.

IDoN0tCare · 20/02/2019 16:35

RedWineAllMine. Anyone can comment on any thread, but I often think that posters, like you, are trying to convince themselves, rather than us. 🙈🙉

RedWineAllMine · 20/02/2019 16:38

Idonotcare you've found me out! Smile
To be honest stockpiling has never crossed my mind ahead of Brexit. I fear I would become somewhat a hoarder if I did this tho.

redhat · 20/02/2019 16:46

Maybe do a bit of reading about it. Better to be a bit hoarderish for a couple of months than not able to feed your family properly.

IDoN0tCare · 20/02/2019 16:47

You still haven’t explained why you feel the need to come to come onto a thread about prepping, just to mock people who want to be prepared for a worse case situation. Why? What do you get out of it?

bellinisurge · 20/02/2019 16:51

The best thing to do - and I've endured a lot of silly posts - is to ignore them.
Take back control GrinDo what you think is best for you and your family. Speaking with full knowledge that I am also an internet random, i would say it is best to avoid "drive by" internet critics. When they are bored they can pop over to The Litter Tray to tell everyone cats are shit.

IDoN0tCare · 20/02/2019 16:55

bellinisurge 🤣

RedWineAllMine · 20/02/2019 16:55

Jeez you need to chill out, I haven't personally mocked anyone. I was just having an opinion, along with many others on the thread. And secondly I don't feel the need to explain myself to you.
A 🍷 for you. Should de stress you a little 😳

IDoN0tCare · 20/02/2019 16:59

And secondly I don't feel the need to explain myself to you.

Well then, your comment regarding preppers being ‘silly’, was just pointless, wasn’t it? See, we can back up our reasons for preparing for Brexit, whereas the best you’ve got is, “silly behaviour!” I know who I’ll take advice from.

redhat · 20/02/2019 17:03

Have you stocked up on that Wine Wink

AutumnCrow · 20/02/2019 18:17

Jeez you need to chill out

Bogus, dude.
