Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

I'm really behind I need a babysitter so I can go shopping

NoWordForFluffy · 19/02/2019 08:49

I've done most of mine online, slippery. Saves hassle!

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/02/2019 08:59

Everything has stopped here for the week too. Half term. I shopped on Saturday and am still putting stuff away. There is one more bag to sort and find spaces for. I have been swapping stuff about to make more variety in each storage space and putting a little bit here and a little bit there. I have another space I have not used yet, for lighter weight goods. The space under DD's bed is not full yet.

I need more fusilli pasta for the first, and packets of stuff. More tinned veg for under the bed. It will just have to wait until after half term.

Batsypatsy · 19/02/2019 09:05

Thanks everyone. I guess my problem is more that we don't eat some of that stuff, so I don't want to buy it if I'm not going to eat it. I also find potatoes don't store well at all, no matter what kind of storage I use. I have pasta and jars of pasta sauce for dd, but avoid gluten myself. I have pouches of rice, will add more.

I use the under bed storage already for out of season clothes, duvets etc. I do have a shelf in my cupboard where I'm storing extra food, it's more freezer space I'm short of really.

I can't miss a day's medication but I've been trying to get my prescriptions early each month. I'll talk to my gp next time I'm there.

We don't use many spices, and I have new jars which will keep us going for a while.

If you have a compost bin you can grow a potato crop in there

NoWordForFluffy · 19/02/2019 09:30

You can buy 4 potato sacks on eBay for £6.99, which will give you an OK crop. They won't give a crop for months yet though.

You need to buy unwashed potatoes (Morrison's do 12.5kg sacks for £6.00) as they store for ages in a cool dark place.

Batsypatsy · 19/02/2019 09:36

I live in a flat and don't really have a cool dark place sadly. I'll stock up on packet mash and keep some frozen jacket potatoes.

redhat · 19/02/2019 09:44

OK, if you're short on freezer space though frozen jacket potatoes would seem like a real waste of space. They're bulky and you'd be better off putting protein there.

I suspect nobody on these threads would be eating tinned meat and veg through choice. This isn't really about an ideal situation, it's about having a back up in case things don't run smoothly.

Everyone will do this differently though Smile

Batsypatsy · 19/02/2019 09:54

Thanks. I see what you're saying. We just eat quite a lot of potatoes. I think I'll go through my freezer and see what's taking up space. I'll also take the jackets out of the boxes as they'll take up less space in bags.

I'm just doing my online shop and have added in an extra bottle each of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.

I can only do this bit by bit for financial reasons and can't get to an aldi easily.

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/02/2019 10:00

I have recently used up the potatoes I bought in August on holiday and had kept in the fridge for 6 months.

SparklySneakers · 19/02/2019 10:24

Awaiting my Waitrose delivery and then will pop up asda for the rest and do a stock take. Once today's shopping is complete I think I'm pretty set.

redhat · 19/02/2019 10:36

Morrisons unwashed potatoes (12.5kg) are on offer until 3rd March at £4 reduced from £6. That's a really good price for a supermarket. I am going to get a couple of bags for the garage.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/02/2019 10:45

I keep thinking I'm almost done, then keep thinking of other stuff to get. I must get more tampons in Aldi this week as they're a bargain!

IDoN0tCare · 19/02/2019 10:52

Batsypatsy, you can get gluten free soya mince and if you add Kallo tomato and herb stock cubes, it makes delicious spaghetti Bol or mince. Both are easy to store, as they don’t need to be kept cold and because the mince is dried, it expands when wet. The mince is very light in weight so can be chucked on top of any wardrobe.

Tinned potatoes are brilliant for adding to soups, sliced and fried or mashed to use as pie toppings.

PrivacyPolicyYeahRight · 19/02/2019 17:51

I think I will batch make mash potatoes and mashed carrot/swede and freeze that. I think it will freeze ok anyway...

mum2jakie · 19/02/2019 19:16

Where would you suggest storing a big bag of potatoes? We have a shed but not sure if that would be too damp? We don't really have space in the kitchen.

redhat · 19/02/2019 19:22

I keep potatoes in the garage since it’s dark and cool. Shed would probably be ok if it’s dry and relatively bug free.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/02/2019 19:27

Ours are in the cupboard under the stairs.

mum2jakie · 19/02/2019 19:52

No shed and the under stairs is home to our fridge freezer and built in shoe storage. Might give the shed a go, thanks.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/02/2019 20:17

Has anyone got a yoghurt flask?

redhat · 19/02/2019 20:21

I have an easiyo. The sachets can be bought quite cheaply f you get the short dated ones (they are perfectly fine past the BBE date) and for about £1 a sachet you can get a lot of yoghurt.

IDoN0tCare · 19/02/2019 22:23

Has anyone got a yoghurt flask?

The what? The where? The now?

Learning so much on this thread.

Not a bad price at the moment. I got mine in the lakeland sale for £6.99 which included starter sachets. its very easy and you don't need to use the sachets. Personally I like the sachets since it means you only need water.

PrawnOfCreation · 19/02/2019 23:31

Holland and Barrett had them in store for £2 for the flask. Morrisons is about to start stocking the sachets too.

redhat · 20/02/2019 07:00

The Range stock the sachets too.
