Three of them that I've seen pics of on FB.

Clever advertising.

I’m just helping you out as you appear to think any random from England can apply for an Irish passport.
They can’t. & they’re not.
You can only get one if you’re eligible.

MeganBacon · 02/02/2019 11:42

Paddy Power Ad = Disgrace

Breaking Point Poster = Just part of democracy guv'nor

Just because the breaking point poster was a disgrace does not mean it's okay for paddy power to lower their standards too. I'm really worried about the descent into hatred - can't we all channel Michelle Obama a bit, "when they go low, we go high"?

LadyandGent · 02/02/2019 11:42

No ill-feeling in the Irish camp I can tell ya! We're laughing.

It's not a political statement, it's a marketing campaign.

Agree MeganBacon - it’s just stirring up hatred.

LadyandGent · 02/02/2019 11:45

What makes you think that I think that? You're as bad as the politician who actually thought he could get an Irish passport by virtue of being English lol.

I thought the ads were hilarious when my Irish DH's family shared them on our group chat.

Well played Paddy Power 👏

I find them funny. English Dh is joining my friend & a lot of his strong catholic in laws to watch the match while we're at the cinema! He's a tad nervous!

LadyandGent · 02/02/2019 11:48

You think this is stirring up hatred?

How about the British Crown taking out 16 rebels in Ireland and sentencing them to death in 1916? Shot dead without a trial.

How about taxing us into oblivion so that 1 million of us died. A further million had to emigrate.

There is hatred for the English, but PP hasn't stirred it up.

ENGLAND'S COMING HOME, IT'S COMING HOME.

May the best team win today.

There are people on the threads about how to get an Irish passport, who haven't ever set foot on Irish soil. They don't know anyone Irish. They just want the passport.

OP posts:
Whisky2014 · 02/02/2019 11:52

Fuck sake it's not stirring up hatred. You just can't take a joke.

LadyandGent · 02/02/2019 11:53

Anyway, my post was moreso about how clever the advertising was rather than any Anglo-Irish nonsense.

LadyandGent

I’m not getting into an argument with you about the history of Ireland as we’d be here all week.
I’m just saying I find the PP adverts distasteful, unnecessary, childish, & not funny in anyway.

Whisky2014 · 02/02/2019 11:55

They are funny.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/02/2019 11:55

They don't know anyone Irish

Except their parents. I think you need to distinguish between people born outside of Ireland who consider themselves Irish due to heritage and those who seek to take advantage of their heritage due to Brexit. I can't blame the latter group tbh.

How about the British Crown taking out 16 rebels in Ireland and sentencing them to death in 1916? Shot dead without a trial.

Including the Scottish born James Connolly and English born Tom Clarke.

LadyandGent · 02/02/2019 11:55

Ye, well, they're not aimed at you, so don't take it personally.

Ffs. I thought it was us Remoaners who were snowflakes

LadyandGent · 02/02/2019 12:00

Ghost. They were shot dead by British forces, just 100 years ago. For daring to tell the English to fuck the fuck off. My grandmother was alive then. It's not that long ago.

I'll give you a comparable example.

Polish people come to England. Decide it's now part of Poland. Persecute and torture the English. Declare themselves owners of England. England is now a part of the great Polish Empire. Polish landlords get moved in, take over swathes of properties and the English can go screw themselves. If they rebel, they're shot to death.

What do you think about that?

Whisky2014 · 02/02/2019 12:01

Being at a rugby match is so much fun. There's no fighting or arguing and there is banter but people take it as they should. It's great the fans are mixed in together unlike football where you have to be separated and we all know what violence and thuggery comes with that. You just do not see it at the rugby and it's so refreshing.

TSSDNCOP · 02/02/2019 12:02

The ads are funny. In other news I hope your boys get their arses handed to them.

MeganBacon · 02/02/2019 12:02

I'd apologise if it were anything to do with me. I never feel the need to mention the holocaust to my German dh.
But enjoy your football/rugby (whatever it is).

More importantly, we all bear a responsibility to counter the hatred that is growing in society today.

Completely agree.
