Whatever the history of it, it has different connections in this context.

No it doesn’t. It’s the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom.

It’s on all our passports. You can find it on coins. It’s on the gates of Buckingham Palace. It’s on Royal warrants on ships and packets.

plaidlife · 15/11/2018 21:13

The Scots don't actually have a stable of Unicorns tucked round the back of Edinburgh castle.
They know they are mythical.

Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:14

Not at all - was just watching the statement and it struck me as funny there was a unicorn in front of TM when she was promising how fabulous this deal is.

If it upsets the Scots I apologise.

But I still found it funny.

StoorieHoose · 15/11/2018 21:14

Because we recognise that it’s a mythical creature? And we aren’t daft?

Keep goading though

plaidlife · 15/11/2018 21:14

Just like the majority know a successful Brexit is.

PinkCalluna · 15/11/2018 21:16

I couldn’t have told you the English national anmal was a lion

.... I’m speechless.

UrsulaPandress · 15/11/2018 21:16

I do try to refrain from commenting on threads like this but dear god. The stupidity that seems to be prevalent today is so fucking depressing.

Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:17

Keep goading though

Jeezo - I literally can’t believe people are getting so het up about a bloody unicorn.

I thought it was funny - others clearly don’t.

I’m astounded this provokes more reaction than Brexit itself

Weird.

The Scots. They have the greatest animal symbol in the world AND most didn't vote for Brexit.

God's own people as my DDad would say.

BluebellsareBlue · 15/11/2018 21:18

Sigh..... I actually have no words!

You're having a laugh that my National emblem is a mythical creature but you would have guessed a dragon for Wales... yeah coz that's not a mythical creature either Hmm

Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:19

Seriously - why does anyone need to know what their country’s national animal is?

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:20

Welsh dragons are frequently depicted.

I’ve literally never noticed Scottish unicorns anywhere.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 15/11/2018 21:21

Have you seriously never ever noticed it before? On your passport for instance?

Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:22

Seriously - no

I’ve never looked that closely.

Clearly I’m the odd one out here.

On the old pound coin?

Passport?

Government buildings?

Parliament?

May I suggest practicing mindfulness?

plaidlife · 15/11/2018 21:24

I'm cross because I think general ignorance of anything outside the English bubble is one of the reasons Brexit is such a mess. Other things Scotland has includes a parliament, a different legal structure, a different education system, including different holiday dates and also different cultural traditions such as guising. Just Incase you run into any of these things OP.

rededucator · 15/11/2018 21:25

I can't believe you find your ignorance funny. Not knowing basic facts about your own country. Would you be able to identify the nations flags?

Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:26

I am fully aware of everything else you mentioned plaid I just haven’t found the unicorn fact to be a priority for anyone IRL and I spend a lot of time in Scotland with work.

DollyWilde · 15/11/2018 21:26

Jesus mate, I hate the tories and Brexit but your post makes you look really silly.

PCPlumsTruncheon · 15/11/2018 21:27

Bear I didn’t know either, happy to join you in dunce’s corner.
As Chris Tarrant used to say, ‘It’s only easy if you know the answer’.

Kintan · 15/11/2018 21:27

OP have you never noticed the front me of your passport?!

Kintan · 15/11/2018 21:27

*front of your passport that should say!

Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:28

I love to do a survey to establish how many people can name the national animals of countries.

It’s hardly the same as their flags.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 15/11/2018 21:28

It’s nit just Scotland. The lion and the unicorn have been amalgamated sincevghe early 1600s. There is even a nursery rhyme.

Bearbehind · 15/11/2018 21:29

Thanks PCPlums 😁
