It’s the national animal of Scotland, just as England’s is a lion, Wales a dragon etc.

It’s the lion and the unicorn.
Isn’t that some sort of national/traditional / historical theme?

A unicorn is on the Scottish coat of arms.

I just think it’s more than a little ironic in the circumstances.

It isn't about the history it is the actual current symbol of Scotland. It is everywhere if you open your eyes and look.
