I've literally never heard anyone on the Remain side say that. We all just say 'show me the benefits and I might change my mind'

It now seems like a point of principle among Leavers that they aren't going to change their minds, no matter what.

Not my experience - whole family is solidly in the Remain camp, and I've never heard any of them say anything like that. If anything they are all even more in favour of remaining than before.

Maybe the Leavers had already thought it through properly.

It's pointless discussing anything if you resolutely stand by the principle that you will never change your mind on the subject, no matter what evidence is presented.

The fact that you and your family are even more in favour of remaining is simply due to the fact the evidence is more and more compelling that it's the right thing to do.

Conversely, Leavers see the same evidence and just revert to 'we won' or 'I won't be convinced otherwise'

My OP wasn't very clear - what I'm wondering is what hope is there of a sensible resolution here when those in favour of it are so steadfast in their determination to plough on, whatever the consequences.

In what other situation in life would you ever say 'I'm not going to listen to any evidence to the contrary, I believe in my decision, despite not being about to articulate why, and I refuse to change my mind'

O OP it's hard and inexplicable I know and you seem very.very worried about how other people think.

Remember what lots of Remain voters have already said (and many that didn't bother to vote too) - that the people that voted to Leave are stupid, racist, bigoted, too old, dead (died since the Ref), believe all the propaganda, etc, etc. So to expect any reasoned argument from those types of people is just impossible.

Hopefully, those that voted to Remain will use their obviously greater intellect and reasoning to achieve what they want. Until then the best you can really hope for is that more people that didn't vote the same as you die before you do - which is apparently why the Leave vote won - all those old people intent on fucking up your life and your children's life apparently.

Of course, you will be an Old Person that the Young will clamour to to hear your great wisdom when you are old. But very unlikely, you'll be called a stupid cunt too - just what we all want our Granny called.

I would happily have my mind changed if someone told me some actual tangible benefits of leaving. I would love to believe that it is the right thing for the country, because at the end of the day it’s happening whether I like it or not.

Many who voted Remain before will spitefully vote Leave if they get another chance, either b/c they feel they were lied to by Project Fear or they resent even being asked again. Childish shit, but that's humans for you. Like those who voted Leave the first time to "give a kicking to the establishment."

I haven't conversed openly with any Relinquish voters. We're so far apart, it wouldn't be a helpful exchange.

I think it's a known thing in physiology, when somebody Is wedded to a position, nothing can move them. If you show them evidence that contradicts their view, even rock solid evidence, they just become MORE convinced of their position. I'm aware that this is a thing and do try my best to be open minded to the fact I may be wrong (about anything).

I don't know any 'deliberate' Leave voters who have changed their minds but I do know some who bitterly wish the referendum had never happened and say it's the worse thing any govenment (their living memory) has done (while still voting Tory).

I think it's good to know confirmation bias exists and that we can ALL be guilty of it so we can try to be as open minded as possible.

I do think only a fool can come out with 'there's nothing that will ever convince me to change my mind.
