The Brexit thread.

By Brexiters, for Brexiters.

Remainers welcome, but gobshites & goadyfuckers are encouraged to take their business elsewhere.

Right going back to somewhat more serious stuff for a moment , was listening to R4 on the way home from a very long and complicated shift, and some people , including I think , a woman called Lionel ? were talking about politics and current affairs and stuff . So there was some talk about the possibility of a new political party forming in the wake of the Brexit vote and ongoing debate. A man , not sure who, suggested that the new party could not just be a Remain party and would need to be more radical , yet centrist at the same time.

So the real point of the above monologue is , if you had the ability to start a new party , what would your policies be ? what do you think could change to make the UK a much better place for all its citizens ?

frumpety · 30/03/2018 21:31

Another little picture of one of my favourite animals just for balance Grin

This idiocy must stop.

frumpety · 01/04/2018 07:13

Not in the least bit surprised by that comment by Julie Bishop.

www.politico.eu/article/cargo-food-production-producers-brexit-burns-irelands-british-bridge-to-eu-markets/

Interesting article which does propose a type of solution to reducing 'friction' on trade.

Thinking of starting a new political party , going to call it Centrum , no donors as yet , contributions to nibbles at upcoming party meetings very welcome though. Need some input on a jaunty slogan and branding. Although I think the nibbles issue is paramount, so nibbles suggestions first and we can work up to policy as we go along.

Thinking along the lines of Turquoise as the party colour , quite like the F&B Blue ground , nice and calm , or we could go for a nice lilac ?

We could do with an economist , or at the very least someone good at budgeting , who isn't over their overdraft limit and has some savings , sensible with money , you get the drift. To be in charge of petty cash and nibbles budget. Oh and help drive our economic policy of course.

Suggestions of other people required for fledgling political party would be useful ? Got to go to work , will pick up paint charts from DIY shop so we can nail the colour issue ASAP Smile

frumpety · 01/04/2018 08:11

A nice pastel hue is what I think would be best , this is not an 'in your face' party . But will go with the consensus , and all suggestions will be given full consideration.

LondonMum8 · 01/04/2018 10:16

@frumpety Would get in touch with Lord Sugar / Jewish donors about the funding. The biggest problem is that FPTP anachronism. Kippers moaned about it when they were affected, after switching the vote to Tories, they are happy with it as it is. Same thing with the ref result: if it was a tight win for Remain it wouldn't have been accepted by agent Fromage, a tight win for Leave despite likely funding rule breaches and unprecedented online braonwashing campaign is a fair and square win according to Boris F. Johnson.

Actually, there is some awesome Brexit news - disposable incomes are no longer under being squeezed and the housing market is stabilising... Hmm, maybe surferjet, mummy, and Faith/Brandy were right after all?

Scratch 'under'

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 01/04/2018 11:43

Frumpety, I'd consider a vote for centrum!
(Even though you've no policies yet...Grin)

There's def a gap in the political spectrum in the centre.

If a new party formed of centre right & centre left people, with good, pragmatic policies it would stand a real chance of replacing the SNP & Lib Dems - scooping up a lot of their voters & a chunk of centrist Tories & Labour.

The big mistake would be to champion it as a remain party though, as that would alienate moderate Brexiters - who are a huge part of the electorate.

For a new party to flourish it needs to distance itself from being seen as 'one issue'.
There's already a centrist anti-brexit party, and they bombed at the last election.
Anti Brexit SNP lost out to the Tories as well.

LondonMum8 · 01/04/2018 12:08

For me to vote, the new party would have to offer socio-economic policies similar to LibDems, basically a softer version of Tories' hardcore free market approach which I believe enabled Brexit, with a clear anti-Brexit agenda. So it's basically LibDems, except they have been executing very poorly indeed. Goes to show that running a major political party is not an easy task, need a particularly strong leadership and massive funding.

AgnesSkinner · 01/04/2018 13:45

Maybe if the Lib Dems rebranded with a nice F&B St Giles Blue and upped their game with the nibbles they’d do better?

LondonMum8 · 01/04/2018 13:50

The thing is that the nazi media have just too much of an attack surface on them ATM. Would need to be a fairly thorough purge / revamp, with Tory collaborators such as Cable expunged / consigned to backbenches.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 01/04/2018 13:54

So you're not really interested in a new, truly centrist party then Londonmum?

You just want an anti-brexit party devoid of any hint of 'Tory collaborators'.

Can't see that gaining much traction tbh.

LondonMum8 · 01/04/2018 14:04

I view LDs as a centrist party in principle. The main problem is their being tarnished by the piss-poorly executed coalition with the Tories. And yes, an anti-Brexit party has its place in my view given that Remainers are not being represented by either of the two main parties. I don't think it is corect to assume thar LibDem's poor performance is explained by their opposition to Brexit. I think they gain votes on that anti-Brexit stance, but still lose out much more on account of that coalition fiasco.

gussyfinknottle · 01/04/2018 16:59

It's too late for an anti-Brexit party, sadly. The die is cast. But I am sick of the extremists who have hunkered down in Parliament.

frumpety · 01/04/2018 20:25

We have no policies yet , but as the queen of cut and paste , I do think there is scope to 'borrow' the best bits from some other political alliances , maybe tweak them a bit , swop some of the words around ? I may be wrong but I have a feeling that this is what the other major players already do ?

The key to every key political movement is the branding , so does anyone have experience in this area ? I say experience , but honestly if you are good with words and have top class nibbles you are probably a shoo in.

We will need some top class advisors in the following areas :

Health and social care , anyone know anyone who works for the NHS or has been a patient recently or is getting older ?

Education , there must be a few teachers who have given up on the profession who are willing to act in an advisory role ? failing that anyone who went to school most of the time.

Defence and national security, does anyone know any Russians ?

Media, digital stuff and sport, same question as above Grin

Foreign and commonwealth stuff , who is the person you know , least likely to cause offence ? Anyone on here from the commonwealth ?

Justice , we need someone fairly honest , possibly with experience in this field , will source a Dummies guide to law from the internet , that should do us in the interim.

We need someone from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Or people who have lived their , spent family holidays there or can trace at least one ancestor from there in their family tree. As an absolute minimum , someone who appreciates their food and drink ?

Business and trade ( national and international) I think we can amalgamate , anyone work in a business or runs their own business or has watched the first five series of the apprentice ?

Transport, must look good in high vis and a hard hat Wink

Work and pensions , any civil servants about ?

Sure I have missed a few ?
