The Brexit thread.

By Brexiters, for Brexiters.

Remainers welcome, but gobshites & goadyfuckers are encouraged to take their business elsewhere.

I read it the same was as you bear, from when I first saw it on Twitter up until Double’s post. Now I’m not so sure. Is there a clip anywhere?

Of course I’ll be more than happy to be proved wrong about the economic effects of Brexit. I don’t want to be poorer; I don’t want my children to be poorer and I don’t want... ah! Better stop there - wouldn’t want to be accused of virtue signalling. However well things turn out financially though, I shall always feel we have lost out socially, culturally and academically through shrinking opportunities.

A quick point about the nasty rude remainers - I noted that, on the other thread, one of my posts was deleted - I assume it was reported for ‘disablist language’ because I used the term ‘useful idiots’ (in context and perfectly reasonably). Yet the post in which I ranted about fuckwits with no fucking clue was not reported Hmm, seems the threads are being manipulated to tell a particularly story.

Brexiters are a funny bunch. Miserable before the vote. Miserable after they won.

bearbehind · 29/03/2018 16:17

I can see how double interpreted that way.

I've no doubt that's what TM intended but the fact remains, if she'd meant the HMRC timeline was over cautious, she'd just have said so.

How can the government possibly say 5 years is too long when we don't even know what we're striving for yet.

That's what all the 'delve into what you want to achieve' stuff was about.

Doubletrouble99 · 29/03/2018 16:18

Read the answer to the next question Nicky Morgan asked - I think q72 and you will see that the PM is quite clear that she says we will have customs arrangements ready for the end of the implementation period. End of 2020 is not 5 years I'm afraid.

Mizzling · 29/03/2018 16:23

"If it’s true. & we will have lots more money to spend on our own country & everything turns out ok. how embarrassed will remainers be on a scale of 1 to 10?"

I can honestly say I would be too delighted, relieved and amazed to register any embarrassment at all.

It would be a gravity-defying outcome.

bearbehind · 29/03/2018 16:26

No, she says

First all, we are working to ensure that at the end of the implementation period we are able to have customs arrangements in place that are suitable for our future economic partnership. That is the focus that we are putting on that. Obviously, as we look through these issues, we will look at all the contingencies that would need to be put in place, but there will be two sides to those contingencies. There are decisions that we could take, but we need to look at decisions that might be taken by European partners. Our focus is very clearly on ensuring that when we finally come out of the implementation period we are able to have a customs arrangement in place that will meet the needs of the future economic partnership.

ie, we'd like to have a CA in place but if we don't, because of the issues with resolving it, we'll need contingencies.

As mother said, if she thought it would be fine, she wouldn't even need to mention contingencies, she'd be shouting from the roof tops that we can sort it in time.

bearbehind · 29/03/2018 16:28

That is very different to it being 'quite clear that she says we will have customs arrangements ready for the end of the implementation period'

You really are only seeing what you want to see here.

"I am angry now because I see zero interest from the government or the people who voted for Brexit to make sure it turns out wonderfully. They are all too busy telling me to stop thinking."

Absolutely this.

Doubletrouble99 · 29/03/2018 16:44

What politician would say something that and give them no leeway to move if it all went tits up? There are things out of the government's control with regard to the EU and the politics of Ireland so who in their right mind would commit themselves to something they have no complete control over.
I watched the whole of TM's answers to the select committee so I know how she phrased her answers.

Doubletrouble99 · 29/03/2018 16:46

Where is this Zero interest you talk about? Loads of people are complaining that there is nothing but Brexit in parliament and on the news!!

I'd revert you back the that Guardian article we we discussing article.

Plenty of unequivocal comments were made then, all of which 'went tits up'

If TM had meant the issue could be resolved in less than 5 years she would have said so.

She's continuing to play Leavers and you all lap it up.

What doesn't look wonderful? We haven't had the agreement yet.

Bear TM is not going to go 'against' HMRC is she? so she would have to tread very carefully as to how she phrased things.

Just because politicians made statements about what they would like to see happen doesn't mean they have to be completely unbending in their views. It's a negotiation after all.

bearbehind · 29/03/2018 17:52

double are you actually for real?

Do you honestly think any of this mess 'looks wonderful'?

Doubletrouble99 · 29/03/2018 17:52

Mother - TM has cleared things up alright, she has stated we will NOT be staying in the SM or CU.

bearbehind · 29/03/2018 17:56

double and that is going to be another u-turn.

I know you think I just go on about that but where is the evidence to suggest anything else.

You've said yourself 'it's a negiotiation'

What makes you so sure this absolutely isn't up for grabs still?

It's the only viable solution to the NI border issue yet you're convinced that because TM said no, that's gospel.

Be warned- she's off on a walking holiday again this Easter.

Last time she did that she came back and announced the snap election she also said wouldn't happen.

I'd revert you back the that Guardian article we we discussing article.

Just make sure you don't use the Guardian app!

Harvesting data from waaaay more users than CA - makes CA look like amateurs 😂

twofingerstoEverything · 29/03/2018 20:10

TM just said there will be more money for the NHS & schools once we leave the EU.
Do you think she’s lying?

Well, yes, I do, given that the impact assessments show we'll be worse off post-Brexit. I thought there was a suggestion that the NHS should be funded through increased taxation, in which case why is TM linking this with leaving the EU? The Tories have starved the NHS and schools for years, despite us being one of the wealthiest countries in the world. The government must think we're thick as pigshit to believe this nonsense. What's that? Some people do believe it?

bearbehind · 29/03/2018 20:50

The government must think we're thick as pigshit to believe this nonsense. What's that? Some people do believe it?

They do.

Some people believe every damn that comes out of the mouths of DD and TM.

It's pathetic.

They've done nothing to earn this loyalty yet, every time the say something Leavers want to hear, it's lapped up.

frumpety · 29/03/2018 21:01

Did anyone listen to The Brexit Lab on Radio 4 today at about 16.30 ? I was gobsmacked and believe me it takes a fair bit for me to get to that state , it was like a party political broadcast by the Conservative party ! The dead ringers short after it, was I suppose a poor effort on the part of the BBC to be seen to be even handed.
