The Brexit thread.

By Brexiters, for Brexiters.

Remainers welcome, but gobshites & goadyfuckers are encouraged to take their business elsewhere.

Before we get carried away though we need to address three key issues:

  1. Colour scheme/symbol
  1. Jaunty/catchy slogan and theme tune.
  1. Nibbles , going out on a limb here , but Aldi do quite a good anti pasta spread , with crisps and dips ? Or should we step it up a gear and go with canapes ? Or should everyone just bring someone thing from home , not the tin of beans my brother brought once when I suggested this , although I did serve them in a nice dish, cold to be eaten with the salad Wink
frumpety · 01/04/2018 20:40

Bluey pink , I give you the hydrangea , loves the wet so a perfect symbol for this green and largely damp land and NI of course Smile

frumpety · 01/04/2018 20:44

Too Blue ? What about a nice pastel rainbow ?

The Brexit Arms
FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 01/04/2018 23:30

😂😂

I love the hydrangea!

Maybe something non blue would be better though?

A nice lilac?? Or is that too insipid?

What about a compass symbol?
With nice colours in it, and Centrum arched over the top?

frumpety · 02/04/2018 07:03

The compass is inspired Faith , I think if we could have it in some nice gentle pastel shades it would be perfect.

Now back to the people we need , we are going to need some fantastic lobbyists during the transition phase to ensure that the needs of the UK are heard , so who is good at mingling and has a passport and likes Belgian beer and chocolate ? If anyone has a van , we could make it a bit of a 'Salvage hunters' trip too and pick up some furniture whilst we are over there , just an idea Smile

frumpety · 02/04/2018 07:15

How about this ?

The Brexit Arms
frumpety · 02/04/2018 07:29

^^ but a more lilac hue ?

Current politics is too dominated by the extremes of left and right , we need a middle ground , so big it pushes those extremes to the edges where they belong. They are useful in a spectrum of views way , but not in the least bit helpful when it comes down to the basics of running a country. We need to 'take back control' of that middle ground.

frumpety · 02/04/2018 07:43

But we need a better slogan than Take back control Grin

Although that is going to be hard to beat , how about The grownups are back ?

frumpety · 02/04/2018 07:48

Theme tune ? Crank it up Grin

frumpety · 02/04/2018 07:55

Off to work now , have a lovely Bank holiday people Easter Smile

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/04/2018 12:41

Have a nice day at work Frumpety Smile

"Vision in Action", "Towards the Future", "Reclaiming the Centre", "Forwards"

For colours, take beck control Wink of the union flag, but not explicitly a flag - also merges labour red & Tory blue (works well with a compass).

Could have two intersected circles as the logo, with a 'C' in the overlap.

I'm free over the summer so I'll tour Blighty & drum up support Grin

Quite depressed that this isn't real tbh. The mood music wrt any real prospect of a new party is that it will be anti Brexit & there's no way I'd vote for that;
I would support pragmatic Brexit though as I'm prepared to wait for full divergence.

LondonMum8 · 02/04/2018 12:58

Brexiters really want the entire cake, don't they? They've got the Tories, Labour and and UKIP (if the Tories are not nazi enough) to vote for, and they still want nazi LDs too or something equivalent.

surferjet · 02/04/2018 15:58

Haven’t been on here for a few days.
Not much Brexit news at the moment being Easter holidays & all that.

But in other news. I’ve put on half a stone in weight due to too much chocolate Easter Grin

Doubletrouble99 · 02/04/2018 17:09

What on earth is Nazi about frumpety wanting to start a centrist party Londonmum?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/04/2018 17:26

She's obsessed double.

Desperately tries to shoehorn Brexiter=Nazi to every single Brexit thread.

Very odd.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 02/04/2018 17:35

Something that confuses me about the remain camp is there obsessing over money. Brexit is a bigger question than just the economy. What ever happened to pride in ones country and valuing a self governing nation state?

Why do the likes of londonmum8 have to call us out as nazis? I find it bizarre. I want our country to determine its own future. That is not because the eu is bad but because I do not want our future as part of a wider euro super state.

TomRavenscroft · 02/04/2018 17:40

Hey, I think it's been said already on here, but the government itself admitted in a Brexit white paper that we ARE self-governing and DO have sovereignty as part of the EU.

Recognising the benefits of belonging to a bloc that allows frictionless trade, travel, work, cultural and knowledge exchange etc is not at all inimical to having 'pride in one's country' either.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 02/04/2018 17:48

Tom,

But I find that perspective disingenuous. I disagree, but even if for a moment I didn’t - If we are self governing why have we outsourced so much to the eu - especially in areas like law and trade. It’s the direction of march that matters to me - the eu of now isn’t the one we joined decades ago. If we don’t leave now we will end up being a island state of an eu in another 30 years that has far more ranging powers. Of that I have no doubt.

Having sovereignty on paper is not the same thing as having it in practical reality. Witness now how we are being punished by the eu to have the temerity to leave. Are those the actions of a mere trade bloc. I think the answer is no / the eu is much more ambitious than that.

JWIM · 02/04/2018 17:57

In what way are we being punished? We are required to follow the rules of the rules based EU - yes, but punished?

What areas of law do (did) we outsource with no opportunity to contribute towards the development of said law?

Heyduggeesflipflop · 02/04/2018 18:02

Jwim

I agree with Rees mogg - we are being treated like a vassal state as we seek to leave the eu. I would agree we haven’t helped ourselves by trying to cherry pick as we exit - that is why we should hard Brexit in my view.

Policies like freedom of movement and institutions like the ecj are not reflective of an organisation that professes to be a simple trade body.

twofingerstoEverything · 02/04/2018 18:09

Oh, here we go again with the "we're being punished" bollocks.
And when TM admitted that we'd had sovereignty all along, I don't remember her qualifying it by saying "on paper".

And as for this: What ever happened to pride in ones country
I can only speak for myself, but I have far less pride in my country than I did prior to June 2016. I feel embarrassed by my country now. Embarrassed that proper consideration wasn't given to the NI question, embarrassed that there was no plan, embarrassed that there's no consensus on what Brexit is, embarrassed at our poor negotiating skills, embarrassed at our Little Englander mindset, embarrassed by our representation in the EU parliament, embarrassed at our Foreign Secretary, embarrassed at how our government has stoked division in the UK, rather than try to bring the country together, embarrassed by our PM's arse-licking of the likes of Trump, Erdogan etc. etc. Seriously, I can't think we have much to be proud of at the moment.

JWIM · 02/04/2018 18:16

But what are the laws Hey that we have/had no opportunity to participate in?

Our situation during the transition period is down to our own Govt and their negotiation skills. Had they not rushed to send the Art 50 letter then you might have had the Brexit you were hoping for.

In terms of having pride - wanting to remain in the EU is not the opposite of having pride in your country. Nevertheless, as time has passed since June 2016 I have to echo twofingers comments.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 02/04/2018 18:17

I agree with Heydug.

Can't be arsed with the circular argument re punished or no, and the 'embarrassed to be british' yawnfest.

Boring & done to death.

JWIM · 02/04/2018 18:25

Hey mentioned punished so perhaps address your scathing to them.

twofingerstoEverything · 02/04/2018 18:33

Sorry you think my feelings are a 'yawnfest' Hmm. No wonder the country continues to be so divided when other people's concerns about such important issues are so easily dismissed as yawnsome.
I note that, as usual, you have no real response other than to pull out the old 'can't be arsed...' comment.
