Blimey is anyone reading Dominic Cummings' blog?
dominiccummings.com
Scary stuff that someone with so little self awareness could have got his hands on so much power and influence. He seems to be in some kind of meltdown. I hope Maugham sues the pants off him (not literally). These people need to be taught a lesson about what living in a democracy really means. Just part of the madness that is brexit.

frumpety · 27/03/2018 19:23

What was Cummings doing between 2004 and 2007 other than reading widely ? Wonders how true his wiki entry is Hmm

frumpety · 27/03/2018 19:34

I mean that's a big old chunk out of the CV for someone in their 30's isn't it ?

Hasenstein · 27/03/2018 19:35

Blimey is anyone reading Dominic Cummings' blog?

Sounds like a slightly toned-down Trump - "the dishonest Jolyon" = "the crooked Hilary".

frumpety · 27/03/2018 20:17

I'm sure he will be fine Figment , all those he has worked with in the past will surely be lining up to offer their support Grin

frumpety · 28/03/2018 07:00

Taking back control , just not of our fish Hmm

lonelyplanetmum · 28/03/2018 07:29

Just clicked on the 'wrong' thread but:

  1. The British govt and the vessel owners unilaterally decided to sell the sizeable U.K. quotas on. That decision is nothing at all to do with the EU. ( A bit like the decision to have French navy passports.)
  1. Fishing is only 0.04 % of GDP.
  1. We always had control (even the govt white paper expressly said so).

Why not focus on financial services -which is 80% of our income? There are daily examples in financial
Services hubs, jobs and income flooding elsewhere directly as a result of chucking in our membership.

bearbehind · 28/03/2018 08:22

I do agree with snowmagedon that the tagging is annoying londonmum

Just drop the @ otherwise people get an email every time you do it.

Doubletrouble99 · 28/03/2018 09:21

Lonelyplanetmum. The thing about fishing rights I think, has very little to do with how much the industry contributes to the UK financially but the symbolism of keeping our own waters and having control over them which was very strong factor in many who voted leave. It is all to do with 'taking back control' and has very little to do with financial reasoning.

bearbehind · 28/03/2018 09:31

And that's exactly why this is such a mess double

Leavers care more about being seen to 'take back control' of and industry that generates sod all in the grand scheme of things whilst not giving a damn about industries that the UK needs to survive like financial services and car manufacturing.

It's naive and pathetheticly simplistic.

frumpety · 28/03/2018 09:34

Taking back control was indeed a very strong message , but as has been shown , even if we take back control of our waters we are still not in control of the quotas for fish within them, marvellous.

Going back to Cummings for a minute , he is the same age as me , I read his blog and he made me take stock of my life a little , all those people I probably shouldn't have slept with , and then I thought,'well it could be worse , at least I didn't fuck the entire country Grin

LondonMum8 · 28/03/2018 10:10

@Doubletrouble99 Absolutel, it has all to do with manipulative symbolism devised by masters of brainwashing.

lonelyplanetmum · 28/03/2018 10:12

Frumpty- your fish sentence using the control word is nonsense. We have chosen in the U.K. to sell our fish quotas on for money.

Doubletrouble99 · 28/03/2018 10:20

Bear - just because leavers wanted to 'take back control' doesn't mean they care 'sod all' for any other industry. You really have it bad don't you with your vitriol and venom for leavers Bear.

frumpety · 28/03/2018 10:24

True Lonely , but the UK had 'control' over that choice , regardless of how rubbish it was Smile

bearbehind · 28/03/2018 10:25

Yes I do double because many have no sense of priority and are causing the country untold damage all for sentimental beliefs that are often misplaced anyway.

As others have said, we sold our quotas. Most of the issues with fishing are our own fault.

lonelyplanetmum · 28/03/2018 10:58

Agreed Frumpty. I wish we could ban the control word as it's so misleading.

It's also really odd how on the relationships board, control is seen as a terrible thing. Yet on politics threads some people are keen to max out control for Pfeffel, Gove , Rees Mogg and the like.

Doubletrouble99 · 28/03/2018 11:09

Thing is Bear, it's far from conducive to proper debate. It's my main reason for not engaging with you and others that do similar. Just unnecessary.

bearbehind · 28/03/2018 11:16

double, you've never engaged in proper debate, not now and not under your previous guise.

Please stop using that as an excuse.

Remainers have every right to be angry that Leavers can't even come up with answers to the most basic of questions about leaving the EU.

It always reverts back to airy fairy notions of freedom etc.

Doubletrouble99 · 28/03/2018 12:38

Bear, you have never done anything other than name call and berate leavers, why on earth do you expect us to debate with anyone who behaves like that.
