So in the spirit of sharing our deluded brexiteer cheerfulness, heres a round up of some of this weeks good news.

http://www.londonlovesbusiness.com/business-news/london-news/big-boost-world-bank-ranks-uk-seventh-in-its-doing-business-report/18554.article

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-eu-volkswagen/vw-explores-uk-banking-licence-ahead-of-brexit-idUKKBN1D22KR

The government have 'found' £60billion to put is a slush fund for brexit.

https://amp.ft.com/content/f3271ac7-7439-319f-ba90-9252f59aafee

And in the week that saw the interest rate rise, the Bank of England said gloomily "as migration tightens, we will see wage growth". Note the 'we will'. Smile

Excellent. All this whilst the media obsess over impotent politicians as Britain works.

Rumour has it, some remainers are a little glum.....

Are you all right, op? Odd

Jeanvaljean27 · 20/11/2017 12:57

OP, you could've had a long, lucrative and fulfilling career editing Pravda and Izvestia had you just been fortunate enough to be born into soviet Russia. Your talents at re-educating the masses are wasted here.

howabout · 20/11/2017 13:01

Bit of cheery news from Fife. Local democracy in action, even when dealing with EU contracts.

@Jeanvaljean27

You forgot Fox News. This Caroline individual likes Trump.

howabout · 20/11/2017 13:36

Remainers unwilling to engage with cheery news.

Sad and, even sadder, as expected Sad

Just watching the runners and riders for EBA / EMA. Logic says Dublin, but if I were staff then Bucharest plus the expat package on offer looks nice. Smile

CardinalSin · 20/11/2017 13:43

MP suffers death threats is happy news? Confused

AgnesSkinner · 20/11/2017 14:31

Bucharest can be stiflingly hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter.

As opposed to Dublin which is probably just mild and wet all year round.

howabout · 20/11/2017 14:42

Bucharest it is then Agnes, with decent AC and thermals.

Mild and wet all year round gets right into your bones after a while. West of Scotland not had proper summer in 5 years and it is even starting to get to this hardy native.

howabout · 20/11/2017 14:50

Love Leo's cheery weekly address. Theresa needs to get with the podcast.

Carolinesbeanies · 20/11/2017 15:09

The vast majority of MPs receive death threats and abuse. The vast majority of MPs dont then play to the gallery to illicit further reaction from the nutters out there. We're all well aware of the nasty unpleasant element online, heavens it even crops up here in buttons and bows mumsnet. Playing to the gallery however to illicit that element, is truly unpleasant however, and ranks alongside Ms Soubrys comments about Michael Fallon 2 weeks ago on Womans Hour.

Ms Soubry told Radio 4’ Womans' Hour: “He loved his job. So if everybody stands back and engages their brain they will work out you do not step down in those circumstances – with that record and that absolute honour and love he had for that job – on the basis of one incident of a hand on a knee 15 years ago. I will say nothing more than that - but think about it.”

Nasty, Unpleasant and exactly the kind of sly but very public insinuations that led to Carl Sergeants suicide. Ill repeat, lets see what the police turn up on these claims.

The Eurovision Agency Contest is rather entertaining howabout Smile

shhhfastasleep · 20/11/2017 15:42

That makes it all ok then.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 20/11/2017 16:40

Another confused post by Caroline Anna Soubry's comments on Fallon are completely irrelevant here. Soubry is absolutely right to call out those sending threats on social media. The public needs to know the extent to which their public servants are being intimidated.

One of the many fallouts of the referendum has been the increase in hate crimes;

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/racist-hate-crimes-surge-to-record-high-after-brexit-vote-new-figures-reveal-a7829551.html

and then stuff like this;

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jul/13/viscount-jailed-for-offering-money-for-killing-of-gina-miller

Nasty, nasty business. History will record these dark moments in British political history. A stain on Brexit and the country.

Carolinesbeanies · 20/11/2017 17:03

Happy Anniversary your Majesty and Prince Philip. 70 years deserves huge congratulations.

Great to read cheery news in Fife howabout.

Latest on the EMA, it looks like an Amsterdam/Milan play off. Im holding out for Dublin on the EBA! Fingers crossed Smile

So a bit of cheery news whilst we wait.

Funniest joke today

"That Angela Merkel has stopped trying to put together a multi party coalition."

"Jamaica?"

"No - looks like it was the FDP."

(Couldnt resist, its made me chuckle)

Cheery news for science and innovation today - additional £2.3bn investment will be in the budget TM announced today and will see public R&D spending increase as a share of GDP in each of next 5 years, towards our goal of 2.4% by 2027 and ultimately 3% of GDP.

Almost as if English wasn't her first language....
🤔

GoingIn · 20/11/2017 17:26

No I think she's using the same tactics as the actual leave campaign. Lots of noise so the substance doesn't matter as much.

OliviaD68 · 20/11/2017 17:30

@GoingIn

So was Jenna Abrams, the Russian twitter bot ...

Carolinesbeanies · 20/11/2017 17:46

Amaterdam wins the EMA, and the shortlist for the EBA is ....... Frankfurt, Paris and Dublin. No surprises so far Grin

OP posts:
themueslicamel · 20/11/2017 17:54

Well done for ignoring the more frothy mouthed comments op and keep up the cheerfulness.

I notice a few have been pulled up thread for goadyness now, assume the one implying you are making death threats will go the same way.....

Carolinesbeanies · 20/11/2017 18:31

This is tense. Its down to Dublin and Paris for the EBA. Im pleased for Amsterdam and the EMA staff, a popular win for them. (Weve got loads of work in the sector heading our way). Come on Dublin!

OP posts:
Carolinesbeanies · 20/11/2017 18:36

Its Paris, suppose not surprising as its the only city the Americans would entertain, but genuinely gutted for Dublin. They could have done with the boost. Hey ho now the recriminations start. Slovakia have strutted off stage left...... So much for the criteria of supporting newer nations, but Macrons 2 speed europe is taking shape. Off for a cheery supper.

OP posts:
Figmentofmyimagination · 20/11/2017 20:19

Macron's 2 speed Europe? Shame we'll be in the slow lane.
