Westministenders: Strong and Stable Theresa Date with Destiny

WELLLLL

Its just before 2.00am.

So far its the YouGov model all the way. Still a long way to go but, the Cons are not getting the top of their target list and Labour are doing very well in seats they just 'shouldn't be'.

Corbyn is now favourite to take the poison chalice of Brexit, but they may not be the largest party yet.

This is looking right now like 1974 not 1983.

May's potted regardless. I look forward to her resignation speech. Its still entirely possible that our next government is a Tory Minority under another leader.

The LDs are having a rough night so far. They are loosing deposits all over the place as they are squeezed out. But they still might hold the balance of power yet. Though they are pledged not to go into coalition.

Another election in the autumn? Brexit delayed and going soft and squishy?

Vince was just interviewed showing why he will bring some sense to Westminster. Brexit will now have to be compromised on with an approach of consensus to retain as many benefits as possible.

Richmond Park is close -3 figures...

George Osborne, openly gleeful: "The worst thing she's done in her life is no longer running through a wheat field"

Osborne still on great form!

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 03:55

Kate Hoey will be voting with which party?

LD gain in Edinburgh West.
Now confirmed that LD loss in Leeds NW.

Colne Valley (current Conservative) also going to a recount. Suggestions Labour on top after first count.

Well, I once called an unnecessary election out of arrogance & nothing has ever backfired more. Grin

Missed this -Labour gain Cardiff North from Tories, not thought to be in play. Up 3 in Wales. Best performance seats since 05. Vote share 97

BiglyBadgers · 09/06/2017 03:57

Hello all! Just checking in after a few hours sleep. Flipping hell, this is exciting. Grin

Meanwhile somewhere deep in Whitney there is a man with a grin on his face thinking to himself that he's now got competition for the worst Prime Minister this century.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy @krishgm
National Vote share so far : Labour 41.2% Conservatives 40.5% Didn't see that coming.

prettybird · 09/06/2017 04:01

Interesting question: if number of Scottish Conservative MPs are what make the difference in giving May or whoever is the leader of the party a majority with which to form a government, under the terms of EVEL, she'll struggle to get through her controversial English education and English NHS plans though parliament as the Scottish MPs won't be able to vote.

Updated Sky Forecast (Thrasher on results plus exit poll): Hung Parliament - "v hard now to get majority". Tories at 315-325.

BestIsWest · 09/06/2017 04:03

If nothing else, surely these results will galvanise young people into thinking they CAN make a difference.

Nationalists in NI have no representation in the HoC. That's not a good thing.

That's it, off to bed. Laughing. Huge problems ahead for Brexit but, for now, this is a joyous, hilarious self-inflicted political wound.

Theresa May, saboteur.

Is this the point at which SF behave like adults and represent their electorate? As we've said endlessly on these threads, Brexit is going to affect NI more than anywhere else in the UK.

lalalonglegs · 09/06/2017 04:08

...represent their electorate in Westminster.

mathanxiety · 09/06/2017 04:10

It's not a question of behaving like anything. SF does not consider NI a legitimate political entity. This is a central plank of its platform and its voters are well aware of this. SF is representing the will of its voters if it does not take seats in WM.
